Arsenal continue to be plagued by defensive injuries as they gear up to face Manchester City at the Etihad this weekend

The Gunners have a number of key players sidelined and were forced to field a makeshift backline last time out against Cardiff

Manager Unai Emery is likely to rely on a similar back four to the one that helped earn a 2-1 win over the Bluebirds on Tuesday

Nacho Monreal was deployed as an emergency centre-back during the victory, although Laurent Koscielny is back in training and could return after a nasty jaw injury

The Frenchman should line up alongside Shkodran Mustafi while Stephan Lichtsteiner is expected to be deployed at right-back again in the absence of Hector Bellerin (ACL) and Ainsley Maitland-Niles (knee)

Maitland-Niles is being assessed ahead of the fixture but Rob Holding (ACL) and Sokratis Papastathopoulos (ankle) are both ruled out

Konstantinos Mavropanos was named on the bench in midweek and is another option at centre-back, although the Greek defender hasn't featured all season

Further forward, Emery could opt for a three-man midfield with Granit Xhaka returning to the starting XI

The Swiss international is likely to be joined by Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi if the Gunners choose to pack the centre of the pitch

Aaron Ramsey is expected to be preferred to Mesut Ozil in the No 10 role, with the German not trusted in high-tensity matches

However, new loan signing Denis Suarez will also hope to feature and will provide competition for Ramsey in the free role

Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should start up front while Henrikh Mkhitaryan (metatarsal) will be assessed before kick-off and Danny Welbeck (ankle) is a long-term absentee

Arsenal predicted line-up vs Manchester City – Premier League (4-3-1-2): Leno; Lichtsteiner, Mustafi, Koscielny, Kolasinac; Torreira, Xhaka, Guendouzi; Ramsey; Lacazette, Aubameyang

Rangers news: Barry Ferguson warns striker 'he has to prove that he belongs there' - Duration: 2:39.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard sealed the signing of Jermain Defoe and managed to keep hold of top scorer Alfredo Morelos despite continued interest in the Columbia international

Many questioned whether the two forwards would be played together or rotated, but Gerrard has since claimed that he is likely to deploy them as a duo

That reveal has left Kyle Lafferty's stance at Ibrox weakened, with his game time likely to be reduced

"He has to realise now that he has a real fight on his hands to prove that he belongs there," Barry Ferguson told the Daily Record

"Lafferty has always been a lovable rogue. "From the first time I clapped eyes on him at the Rangers training ground I just knew I was going to like him

"But even though his head was always full of nonsense, it was also clear right from day one that there was a Rangers player in there somewhere

" Ferguson's second spell at Rangers coincided with Lafferty's first, both playing for the Gers in during 2009

Lafferty left in 2012 and rejoined in the summer, but Ferguson believes this is his last chance to prove himself at the Scottish club

Ferguson said: "The reason I bring it all up now is because, for once in his life, it is time for my old team mate to get deadly serious before the second chance he has been given at Ibrox is taken away from him for good

"If there's one thing he must have realised by now it's that Steven Gerrard is not a man to be messed with

"There is no doubt in my mind that Lafferty is Rangers class. "I know because I played with him at Rangers and I could see straight away that he had something special in his locker

" Lafferty has made 20 appearances for Rangers this season, scoring four goals. However, the Northern Ireland international was surprisingly dropped for Sunday's clash with Livingston

When asked about Lafferty's absence Gerrard said: "I pick the best players and the players I think can get the job done

"There'll be opportunities in the short, medium and long term for him."
