Monkees bassist-and-singer Peter Tork died Thursday at the age of 77, his sister Anne Thorkelson has confirmed

Tork's sibling did not clarify the suspected cause of his death but in 2009 the musician was diagnosed with a rare cancer that affected his tongue

The oldest member of the group in 1966 when their NBC show The Monkees first aired, the 24-year-old helped spark Monkeesmania with an offshoot of merchandise, top-selling music and tour tickets from the TV hit

Scroll down for video  Although it only ran for two seasons, the Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider-produced program won an Emmy for outstanding comedy

As well as playing bass for the four-piece - also made up of Mickey Dolenz, David Jones and Mike Nesmith - Tork sang lead on some of the band's tracks including Long Title: Do I Have To Do This All Over Again

He penned the tune for the four-piece's 1968 movie, Head, which features cameos from the likes of Dennis Hopper, Frank Zappa and Jack Nicholson

Share this article Share The Daydream Believer hitmakers surged in popularity past the likes of the Beatles and Rolling Stones in 1967 with their album selling 35 million copies, a round double that of their rivals combined

Titled Monkees, the LP featuring hits such as I'm a Believer and Last Train to Clarksville, resulted in several no

1 singles for the group. While talented Tork also played keyboards in the group, the Washington DC man was said to be 'mortified' when he joined and realized they would not actually play their instruments

The manufactured had tunes written by the likes of Carole King, Neil Diamond and Jeff Barry when they first emerged on the music scene and had used session musicians for their debut release before he had even signed up

But after the release of their second album More of the Monkees in 1967, the men fought for more songwriting and performance control

They would go on to have Jimi Hendrix as a tour support act. But it wasn't enough for Tork who longed to be taken seriously as a musician

His venture into a new group called Release proved unsuccessful in 1970.Davy Jones, the group's lone Brit, died of a heart attack in 2012 at 66 as they prepared for a reunion tour

Dolenz told Daily Mail: 'When it came to Daydream Believer, which was really Davy's song, we told the audience, "We can't sing this song any more – it belongs to you now," and they sang it instead

Royal news : Meghan Markle surprises friends with UNUSUAL decision at baby shower - 'Very sweet of - Duration: 4:47.

Meghan Markle celebrated the upcoming arrival of her first baby with husband Harry at a private baby shower in the exclusive The Mark Hotel in New York

The Duchess of Sussex is reported to have received numerous presents for the royal tot – some of which appear to suggest the gender of the baby – but friend Gayle King revealed Meghan surprised them all with her decision not to open the gifts

The CBS anchorwoman said the Duchess had decided to wait until her return to London to make sure Harry was available to open the presents with her

Asked what she had decided to get Meghan, Ms King said: "If I told you I would have to kill you because she didn't open any of the gifts because she wants to do that when she and Harry are back together

"So I really don't know what everybody got her. I got something I think is very nice

But she is a very private person so I think she should decide what she wants to say about this

"A good time was had by all, that's what I'll say." Ms King also shed some light on the activities Meghan and her friends enjoyed at the event, saying the Duchess had "generously" donated the flowers to a New York charity after she and the guests had learned how to arrange bouquets from an expert

READ MORE: Royal SNUB: The reason Kate Middleton did NOT attend Meghan Markle's baby shower REVEALED  She continued: "I hope she won't mind me sharing this because I've never seen anything like this at a baby shower

They did flower decoration – flower arranging – they brought in someone to explain how to arrange flowers

"We all each made an individual vase and then Meghan got in touch with an organisation I had never heard of, Repeat Roses, and all of those were donated to different charities

I thought that was a very sweet thing. "It speaks to who she is. She is very kind, very generous, and a really, really sweet person

I think her friends just wanted to celebrate her." Genevieve Hillis, Meghan's best friends and fellow sorority sister at Northwestern University, had tennis superstar Serena Williams help her arrange the exclusive baby shower at the end of a five-day visit to New York before the Duchess flew back to London

A host of celebrity guests were seen arriving including Meghan's former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer and designer Misha Nonoo, who is thought to be the mystery pal who set up Meghan and Harry

Meghan's best friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney was also on the guest list but Meghan's mother Doria Ragland, who lives in Los Angeles, was noticeably absent

Sister-in-law Kate was also absent from the bash as she was reportedly on a ski holiday with her husband Prince Harry and their three children – George, Charlotte and Louis

The Cambridges chose this time because it is the half-term holiday so Prince George, 5, would not be at school

A Royal source told The Sun the family has gone on a "snow-filled holiday". While Kate missed out on the celebrations Meghan enjoyed the company of her A-lister friends, including Human Rights lawyer Amal Clooney and make-up artist Daniel Martin

Mr Martin sparked speculation among royal fans that Meghan and Harry could soon be welcoming a baby boy after he shared a sweet photo of the baby-themed treats guests were given at the party

The photo show biscuits shaped and decorated in white and pale blue icing - indicating that Meghan could be expecting a baby boy

The biscuits feature a stork carrying a newborn in a blanket with a blue tinge, as well as a rattle and a bib with the word "baby" written in black icing

Real Madrid news: Clarence Seedorf reveals contact over manager's job LAST SUMMER - Duration: 2:35.

Real Madrid were seeking a new boss at the end of last season after Zinedine Zidane quit the club

The search began as soon as Zidane confirmed he was leaving the Bernabeu. And Seedorf, who played for Real between 1996 and 2000, revealed to Marca that he was approached

"I consider Real Madrid my home and, to be honest, I would have accepted the job," the Dutchman said

"There were contacts but the decision was made to go in a different direction. "I'm young, so I hope to return in the future

" Indeed, Seedorf has earned managerial experience since retiring from playing in 2014

The ex-Netherlands international managed Milan in 2014 and has also taken charge of Shenzhen and Deportivo, until becoming Cameroon boss last year

Asked if he hopes to manage Real one day, he told Marca: "It would be like returning home

"I already had a similar experience when I was AC Milan coach, so the feelings would be similar

" Real Madrid currently have Santiago Solari in charge after Julen Lopetegui was sacked in October

Los Blancos went after Lopetegui in the aftermath of Zindane's departure but the appointment proved controversial

On the eve of the World Cup, Real announced they had agreed to appoint Lopetegui once the summer tournament was over

But Spain's football federation reacted furiously and sacked the manager before their first match in Russia

Lopetegui held his first press conference at the Bernabeu in tears, while Spain crashed out of the World Cup in the last-16 stage

✅ Breaking News - Grant in line for Huddersfield full debut vs Newcastle, hints Siewert - Duration: 3:20.

Huddersfield boss Jan Siewert may turn to rookie striker Karlan Grant in a bid to halt the club's Premier League slide

Grant, a £2million signing from Charlton last month, stepped off the bench to score his first Terriers goal in the recent home defeat by Arsenal and could make his first start on Saturday at Newcastle

The 21-year-old has scored 14 times for Charlton this season and was credited with Huddersfield's goal against Arsenal after the club successfully appealed against the initial decision to credit it to visiting defender Sead Kolasinac

'That has definitely given him a lift,' said Siewert, who will take charge of his fourth game since replacing David Wagner

'He directly came to me after the (Arsenal) game and said "boss it was my goal" and I said "I saw it

"'Now it's proved that it was his goal, so it has given him a lift and also in training he's coming on more and more I would say

Share this article Share 'He's showed already why we bought him and he's really had an impact

He's come from League One and it's a big jump, but he's proved he was right to make the jump

'When asked if Grant will make his first start at St James' Park, Siewert said: 'Maybe

'Grant could replace Elias Kachunga, who has been unwell this week, while Town's other strikers, Steve Mounie and Laurent Depoitre, have mustered just one goal between them this season

The Terriers have been cast adrift at the bottom of the table after losing 12 of their last 13 league matches

They are 14 points adrift of safety with 12 games to go, but Siewert refuses to concede they appear destined for the trapdoor

'Who writes this?' he said. 'I haven't read this to be fair. You all know it's a difficult situation, but do you like Huddersfield Town? You want us to stay in the Premier League? Then we will go for it

'This is how I'm thinking. Of course you all have to write what you think, but I'm positive

'I know what's happening at the moment and I know it's a difficult task for us, I'm not stupid

'But it's like we watched Newcastle, we've analysed them, and we've got to go for points there

'Goalkeeper Jonas Lossl and defender Chris Lowe will return to contention after both missed out against Arsenal through illness

Winger Isaac Mbenza is recovering from a torn calf muscle, while midfielder Danny Williams (knee) and Abdelhamid Sabiri (collarbone) are both edging closer to full fitness

Chelsea news: Roman Abramovich interest in Blues at all-time LOW amid Sarri sack claims - Duration: 2:04.

Chelsea find themselves going through a rough patch in the season which seems to be going from one catastrophe to another.

Maurizio Sarri started life this season well at Stamford Bridge, going 12 games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But in recent weeks, the wheels have fallen off the fabled 'Sarri-ball' system which has seen the Blues fall out of the top four and crash out of the FA Cup.

Heavy losses to Bournemouth and Manchester City were compounded on Monday night after Manchester United beat them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

It sent Chelsea out of the FA Cup, a competition they won last season under Antonio Conte - who was sacked soon after.

Mid-season collapses have happened before under Abramovich, with Jose Mourinho, Andre Villas-Boas and Luiz Felipe Scolari all feeling the might of the Russian and being sacked.

However, some are surprised that the oligarch has so far resisted pulling the trigger on Sarri.

And according to the Daily Mail, it comes at a time where Abramovich is at his most disinterested in the club since taking over.

The 52-year-old is currently banned from working in the United Kingdom after troubles with his visa.

He has not been spotted at Stamford Bridge all season, and there are rumours that he is trying to sell the club.

Amid these rumours, Chelsea had plans to build a new Stamford Bridge - expanding the capacity to 63,000.

But those plans were scrapped earlier in the season, blaming it on an 'unfavourable investment climate'.

Meanwhile, Sarri suggested that his contact with the Chelsea owner was at a minimum.

"If the president calls, I'll be happy, seeing as I never hear from him," said Sarri.

Zinedine Zidane has been earmarked as a potential successor to the former Napoli boss.

The Frenchman has not been in management since he resigned from Real Madrid in the summer, where he won three Champions League trophies in a row.

Chelsea news: Tim Sherwood reveals the clue Maurizio Sarri is about to be sacked - Duration: 2:19.

That is according to Sky Sports pundit and former Tottenham midfielder and head coach Tim Sherwood

Sarri has been under increased pressure this week following the 2-0 FA Cup fifth round loss at home to Manchester United on Monday

That result comes off the back of three straight away defeats in the Premier League

Chelsea have fallen to sixth in the table and see their Champions League qualification hopes in doubt

Sherwood does not think Chelsea will sack Sarri before the Carabao Cup final on Sunday

However, he says the club's chiefs usually change managers when they cannot get the best out of the players

And Sherwood says that is exactly what is happening at Stamford Bridge at the moment

"No, I don't think they will do [sack Sarri before Sunday]," Sherwood said. "It's not beyond the realms of possibility that they will do that

"Chelsea have a history of changing their managers when things aren't going well, especially when the players are not reacting as positively to the manager as they would like

"You'd have to say at this current moment in time, that is not happening after that result the other night

"Not only that but coming off the back of a capitulation against Man City. "It's not about losing games but it's how you lose them

"At the moment they seem to be void of any real grit or determination to get themselves back into a game once they go behind

" Assistant manager Gianfranco Zola is among the favourites to replace Sarri if he was sacked

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard and former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane are also said to be under consideration

Man City News - Why Man City have left non-league side unhappy after FA Youth Cup tie - Duration: 3:06.

A volunteer-run football club had to fork out £3,000 to mega-rich Manchester City – so the Premier League side's youth team could travel to a match in luxury

Cash-strapped Clevedon Town hoped the under-18s FA Youth Cup home draw would bring in much-needed funds to pay for new floodlights

The visit of the Premier League side – which has a net worth of £1.8billion – earned £8,000 in gate receipts and sales for the Somerset club

But, to their dismay, they had to hand over more than £3,000 of that to City – whose annual players' wage bill is £260million

Under FA rules, visiting teams receive half of the gate receipts for cup matches and have their travel paid for

City, who won the match, asked for £1,068 for their luxury coach travel and £2,200 from ticket sales

Clevedon Town chairman Brian Rose hoped City would donate the money back to his minnows – but they sent a signed shirt instead

He said: "I pointed out to them [Manchester City] we were trying to raise money for floodlights

"They enjoyed the evening, they won, but from our point of view, we thought we would make more out of it

But Man City thought otherwise.    "We knew it was probably not going to happen, we just thought they might have wanted to help a little club like ours

"Obviously the powers that be didn't think of it that way. That's football today

"  Mr Rose added: "The tie did generate needed money. I guess we just hoped we could have got a bit more

Clevedon Town, nicknamed The Seasiders, play in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division

It is nine tiers below the Premier League, which Manchester City won last season

City are fifth on the Forbes football rich-list. Owner Sheikh Mansour has an individual fortune of £18billion

 City declined to comment.

Royal news : Royal FURY: How Prince Philip was 'angry, raging and unpleasant' to Princess Diana - Duration: 3:37.

After marrying in 1981, Princess Diana and Prince Charles went on to have one of the most scandalous marriages in the history of the royal family

A royal biography reveals that, though at times Prince Philip and Princess Diana were very warm towards each other, there was a time when the Duke of Edinburgh was "angry, raging and unpleasant" to Lady Di

According to Tina Brown in her 2007 book "The Diana Chronicles," the senior royal was "angry, raging and unpleasant" to the People's Princess after learning her and Prince Charles' separation

Princess Diana didn't also like Prince Philip's tough love letters. Ms Brown wrote, "Charles, Philip told her, had 'made a considerable sacrifice' in cutting ties with Camilla, and the Princess 'had not appreciated what he had done'"

The biography notes that one time, Prince Philip also offended Princess Diana when he asked her this question: "Can you honestly look into your heart and say that Charles' relationship with Camilla has nothing to do with your behaviour towards him in your marriage?" Although Princess Diana and Prince Philip had those encounters, the Duke was more supportive of Princess Diana compared to Camilla

The Queen and Prince Philip "never dreamed" that Prince Charles would choose his mistress over his wife and strongly disapproved of his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, according to letters allegedly written by Prince Philip to Diana, Princess of Wales

Extracts from the letters, obtained by Paul Burrell, the former royal butler, and published in the Daily Mirror, show that Prince Philip assumed the role of mediator during the marriage breakdown in 1992

Also, in one of his letters, he called his own son, Prince Charles, "silly" for leaving Princess Diana for the Duchess of Cornwall

"I cannot imagine anyone in their right mind leaving you for Camilla," Prince Philip wrote which "gladdened Diana's heart," according to Ms Brown

Prince Philip also signed one of his letters to Princess Diana with "With fondest love - Pa", according to the biography

Royal author Ingrid Seward's book "My Husband and I: The Inside Story" documents the immediate aftermath of Diana's tragic death and how Prince Phillip supported his grandsons at a time of immense grief

While it's been reported that Diana's own relationship with the Duke was strained at the time of her death, the Queen's husband stepped up to support his grandson

Ms Seward wrote: "Diana had grown to dislike Prince Philip intensely - and he her - but Prince William was devoted to the old man

"William wanted his grandfather at his side in what was certain to prove the most harrowing public engagement the young man had had to endure

"

Royal news : The true reliability of YOUR contraception revealed... from 82% for condoms and 78% fo - Duration: 6:55.

IF used correctly, most forms of contraception are pretty reliable at preventing any surprises

It's really, really rare for people to fall pregnant if they genuinely have taken their pill every day, the condom fitted properly and hasn't split, or their implant is in date

But you know. it can happen.  Take Hannah Donaghue, for example.  She claims to have fallen pregnant three times while being on the Pill - the third incident resulting in triplets

"The first time I'd fallen pregnant while taking the contraceptive pill I'd assumed I was just one of the one per cent of women who got unlucky," she told The Sun

After having her first baby, her GP switched her pill which she says she took "religiously" at the same time every day

Two months later, the exact same thing happened again.  Eventually, Hannah switched to the implant but after having a few issues, went back on the pill and eventually found herself giving birth to triplets

So it does happen, albeit in extremely rare cases.  But what about other methods of contraception?  We spoke to the Family Planning Association about just how reliable the most common forms of contraception really are: Condoms  Perfect usage: 98 per cent Typical usage: 82 per cent  Condoms, if they're the right size and fit and they don't split or rip, are really effective at preventing pregnancy

Crucially, they're the only form of contraception that also protects you from STIs - so remember, you need to use them even if you're on another kind of contraception and you're having sex with someone new

But there lots of ways things can go wrong, and user error can lead to an unwanted surprise

'Female' condoms  Perfect usage: 95 per cent Typical usage: 79 per cent  Internal condoms are ones that women fit inside their vagina

They tend to be bigger than a regular condom and they're good because you can put it in ahead of time - before foreplay or sex - so you're not having to interrupt the action once you get going

Again, they protect you from STIs.  But they can be a bit fiddly which may explain why typical usage has just a low success rating

The Pill  Perfect usage: over 99 per cent Typical usage: 91 per cent  If you take your pill at the same time every day and nothing untoward happens like being sick or having a jippy stomach, it's almost guaranteed to protect you from pregnancy

But how many of us have forgotten to take a pill or woken up hours later than usual at the weekend - and delayed taking it?  You can't always predict if you're going to be ill either, which can affect whether your body absorbs the Pill or not

The Pill is great because it's as long-term or short-term as you want but if you are forgetful or you lead a hectic life, you might want to rely on a more stable form of contraception

Implant  Usage: over 99 per cent  Once your implant is fitted, it's over 99 per cent effective

It's a small, flexible plastic rod that gets slotted under the skin in your upper arm and releases the hormone progestogen for three years

So that's three years worry-free. But remember, it won't protect you from STIs. Injection  Perfect usage: over 99 per cent Typical usage: 94 per cent  The injection lasts for between eight and 13 weeks, depending on which type you get

But you need to make sure that you have a repeat injection as soon as the old one expires or it becomes ineffective

IUD and IUS  Usage: 99 per cent  Once you have a coil fitted, it's over 99 per cent effective

It can last for up to ten years - so it's really the longest lasting and effective form of contraception

The 'pull-out' method  Usage: 78 per cent  The withdrawal method is one people have been practising since day dot

It involves getting the man to pull out before climaxing - therefore stopping the release of sperm into the vagina

Unsurprisingly, it's got the lowest success rating because it's incredibly risky

You've got to rely on the fact that the guy really will pull out in time and that there's been so pre-ejculate released

You've also got to make sure that you're in the right part of your cycle so you're at your least fertile

Around 22 per in every 100 women would become pregnant if they relied on this method which is actually quite a lot

So it might be fine if you're actually OK with the possibility of having a baby but if you're not then this isn't really an option

Bottom line, whatever form you opt for, the only way to protect yourself from nasty STIs is to also use a condom!  We pay for your stories! Do you have a story for The Sun Online news team? Email us at tips@the-sun

Gayle King is sharing the adorable details of Meghan Markle's baby shower!  Just hours after celebrating the Duchess of Sussex's pregnancy in New York City, the news anchor and Oprah Winfrey's longtime best friend opened up about the exclusive bash on CBS This Morning – and revealed that Meghan opted not to open the gifts for Baby Sussex during the shower

When King was asked what she brought as a present, she replied, "If I told you, I'd have to kill you because she didn't open any of the gifts because she wants to do that when she and Harry are back together

"  King also shared some insight to the activities during the shower, which she said was put together by Meghan's close pals Serena Williams, Genevieve Hillis and Jessica Mulroney

With the help of an instructor who taught the guests about flower arrangements, each attendee made a bouquet which was then donated to Repeat Roses, an organization which recycles florals from events and uses them to cheer up cancer treatment centers, hospice care and similar places where they can bring a little more joy

"I thought that was a very sweet thing," King explained. "It just speaks to who she is

She's very kind, she's very generous and a really, really sweet person."  The party was reportedly being held in a suite at The Mark hotel, whose head chef happens to be none other than world-renowned culinary expert Jean-Georges Vongerichten

New York City-based harpist and singer Erin Hill, who has played with Cyndi Lauper, Kanye West and Josh Groban, also arrived at the hotel with her harp in tow – and a cotton candy machine was seen being wheeled into the hotel on Wednesday

"It was a very, very small, private affair and just a very special time for her," King said

Meghan departed the New York City hotel on Wednesday evening to catch a flight back to London

Staying comfortable for her ride, the mom-to-be continued her all-black, maternity-chic attire and was spotted outside of her hotel wearing a full-zip sweatshirt, leggings, and Adidas sneakers

She also paired the look with a black baseball cap that had "Rectify" written across the front — perhaps a gift from her friend Abigail Spencer, who once starred on the television show of the same name, and was seen wearing the hat earlier in the day — and a gold necklace that read "Mummy

"  The whirlwind baby shower trip comes shortly before Meghan and Prince Harry are heading to Morocco for a three-day visit highlighting two of their key causes: girls' education and youth empowerment
