Waching daily Feb 22 2019

On May 2, 1997, Tony Blair won landslide Labour victory when he moved into 10 Downing Street as Prime Minister

Prince Charles, "like every powerbroker, was in awe of the conjurer of those arts, Tony Blair", writes biographer Tom Bower in "Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles"

The Prince of Wales and Mr Blair had first met at a dinner in 1995 at St James's Palace

Mr Bower wrote in the 2018 biography, "Blair was hardly a passionate royalist". The book explains that only the previous year, he advocated a "smaller, Scandinavian-type-monarchy, curbing the rights of the royal family to engage in public controversy"

Mr Blair suggested the Queen needed to decide whether the monarchy should "retreat into isolation and the old hierarchical order, or seek to become more like a normal family"

According to the author, the former Prime Minister's ideas were "popular in the Labour party" but was criticised by the Prince of Wales for "seeking to transform" the royal family into something "more pompous and harder to approach"

Mr Bower also claimed that Charles "believed politicians to be dishonest, especially about young people's supposed inability to read and enjoy Shakespeare"

He added: "I don't see why politicians and others should think they have the monopoly of wisdom

" Royal editor Robert Jobson revealed in his 2018 book "Charles at Seventy: Thoughts, Hopes & Dreams" that Charles previously blasted Mr Blair for being former US President George W Bush's "poodle" over the Iraq War

Mr Jobson claims Prince Charles "believed Blair had behaved like Bush's 'poodle' and said so"

According to the author, who has written several books on the royal family, the Prince was even more condemnatory when talking about Tony Blair

He writes: "With a heavy dollop of irony, he [Charles] scornfully dubbed the premier 'our magnificent leader' whenever talking about him in private

" BBC's "Queen and Country", broadcast in 2002, reveals that Tony Blair described the monarchy as a "rationally a better system"

Mr Blair described his own background as traditionalist, saying: "My family didn't have many republican sympathies in it

"A lot of people of my generation, have decided in part because of how important a unifier for the country the Queen has been that actually this is a better system –rationally, not simply emotionally or as part of tradition – but rationally this is a better system

Man Utd news: What players thought after Liverpool Premier League loss under Jose Mourinho - Duration: 3:07.

Manchester United lost 3-1 to Liverpool when the teams met back in December, with a Xherdan Shaqiri brace and Sadio Mane strike enough to give the Merseyside giants all three points

It was a chastening night for the Red Devils and their supporters, with Mourinho ultimately paying the price for the defeat 48 hours later

Manchester United chose to sack Mourinho after the defeat with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer then placed in charge until the end of the season

On Sunday, a rematch awaits. Liverpool will travel to Old Trafford aiming to take another step towards the Premier League title

And GQ Magazine have now opened up on how United stars felt in the wake of the Mourinho defeat

At the time, many thought United players wanted to lose the game on purpose if it meant Mourinho's head rolling

Certainly, there was nothing about the performance that day that suggested they were playing for their manager

Paul Pogba, the club's most-popular figure in the dressing room, had been benched for the afternoon

But GQ Magazine have shut down the notion that United players had given up. They say that United squad members felt they had let their fans down

And it was also claimed that they felt they hadn't represented the club in the way they should have done

Ultimately, that defeat proved to be a turning point in their season. And United players will now attack Liverpool with renewed vigour given their current form

Solskjaer will now oversee the Red Devils' approach and, speaking ahead of the game, the Norwegian has been hailed by counterpart Jurgen Klopp

"I am a manager myself and I know that we are not magicians," Klopp said. "It is not like we can come in and say 'you are not good, but I can make you really good'! "But we are blessed with really good players around us and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing a brilliant job

"It is all about bringing out the potential of the team, improving the quality, and that is what he obviously did and that makes him a manager for a top club

"I didn't know him, I met him one time - I think - last year at a training game in La Manga, where he was with the Norwegian team, and so we had a little chat

"He is a nice fellow, that is for sure, and what he did so far is obviously brilliant

SHE may have jetted home to the UK over 3,000 miles with ease thanks to her £125k private plane - but two of Meghan Markle's friends weren't quite so lucky when travelling home from her A-list baby shower in New York

The Duchess of Sussex's pals Abigail Spencer and Taryn Toomey were left stranded for 17 hours as they tried to get home to Los Angeles

As the 37-year-old royal mum-to-be landed back in London after spending almost a week in the east coast city, her friends were still struggling to take off

At first, her former Suits co-star Abigail and Pilates teacher friend Taryn were delayed for five hours

Then the flight was scheduled for the next day - not leaving until a whole 17 hours after it was originally scheduled

The pair shared images from the plane's first class section to social media revealing their "frustration" at being "still on ground"

Taking to Twitter, Abigail wrote: "Boo @united.delayed the flight for 6 hours, got us all to the board the plane; we wait another hour then cancel our flight not because of weather but because you are short staffed & didn't plan?  "Then have us run to another plane that hasn't left yet to have us reticket, board again only to hear now that the pilot on this flight might time out too? Really bad @united

"  Their disastrous journey home comes as Meghan travelled back to the UK on a private jet paid for by pal Amal Clooney who flew home with her

The lawyer is returning to her one-year-old children Alexander and Ella with actor George, while Meghan - who is over seven months pregnant - is due to fly off to Morocco tomorrow on another royal tour

As she left a swanky Manhattan hotel's £57,000-a-night penthouse following her star-studded baby shower, the Duchess cut a casual figure in a baseball cap and leggings

Royal news : Meghan Markle's best pal may be DEFENDING Duchess in cryptic and heartfelt Instagram p - Duration: 4:05.

Meghan's friend, stylist Jessica Mulroney, posted the inspirational quote on Instagram yesterday - prompting speculation she could be referring to the Duchess

Ms Mulroney posted the quote by author Tyler Knott on Thursday morning, which said: "It's exhausting being strong, let no one tell you otherwise

There are a million ways to heal, every single one will wear you down. "Keep your capacity for joy

Guard it with the rest of your life." She captioned the image: "Guard your joy." Her message comes after Meghan faced rising criticism for her luxurious getaway to New York, which reportedly cost almost £400,000

The Duchess travelled on a luxurious private jet to and from New York, with a round trip costing a staggering £98,500

Meghan was spotted shopping at high-end boutiques and dining at posh restaurants with friends during her trip to the Big Apple

On Wednesday, the Duchess attended a lavish baby shower in the £57,000-a-night penthouse suite in the Mark Hotel on the Upper East Side of Manhattan

The event was organised by her close confidantes, including Hollywood A-lister Amal Clooney and tennis star Serena Williams

Meghan has received overwhelming backlash in the past few days, with many criticising the royal for splurging on her holiday getaway

One user said: "This is nothing more than a wannabe celebrity with a desperate need for attention

If Meghan wanted a quiet baby shower with 'friends' she could have.  "Even Kylie Jenner (one of the most famous people in America) got through her pregnancy with only being seen a few times

" Another wrote: "Their all the same , all these rich people they all do it telling everyone else we need to watch the environment then get around in private jets, then get into their big gas thirsty cars

"Everything is aimed at working class people need to realise , all these taxes they only

" However, many users jumped to Meghan's defence insisting the backlash against the Duchess was "unfair"

One said on Twitter: "I'm yet to meet a high ranking royal that turns right on a plane, so why is a private jet so wrong, what's the point in having millions if your forced to fly easyJet

" Another wrote: "Leave her alone she's free to do whatever she wants! I'm sure most of us if we could afford it would have expensive weddings and baby showers!" Meghan will be jetting off to Morocco in tomorrow with her husband Prince Harry for a royal visit

The couple will meet the British Ambassador upon arrival at Casablanca's Airport and on Sunday, and attend a series of engagements until Monday

The royals will meet young people who have benefited from equine therapy, speak to young entrepreneurs, and visit a restaurant designed for disabled children

Meghan will then return back to London, travelling almost 10,000 miles in a span of 11 days

Man City News - Robbie Savage gives Man Utd vs Liverpool prediction - Duration: 2:48.

This weekend provides two of the biggest games of the season so far.   Manchester United host Liverpool in a keenly anticipated Premier League fixture, which could see the Reds return to the top of the table

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still unbeaten domestically since taking over from Jose Mourinho in December on a caretaker role, with his only defeat coming against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League

And our expert Robbie Savage has predicted that run to continue against Liverpool on Sunday

That result would prevent Jurgen Klopp's men taking advantage of Manchester City's week off Premier League action - and would keep the Reds second on goal difference

Instead of playing a league fixture, City are taking on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final - the first chance for silverware this season for Pep Guardiola and Maurizio Sarri

City thrashed the Blues 6-0 at the Etihad two weeks ago, and while Savage isn't expecting another goal feast he has foreseen a one-sided match-up

Tottenham are the other side in the title race, but they take a tricky trip to Burnley

And BT pundit Savage reckons Mauricio Pochettino's men will come unstuck rather than move within two points of the top two

Arsenal progressed to the Europa League last-16 with a 3-1 aggregate win over Belarus side BATE Borisov - and have been predicted to continue their winning run in the league

Elsewhere, Wolves have been backed to continue their top-seven hunt, Newcastle will blow their relegation fears away with victory over Huddersfield and Cardiff will slip back into the drop zone

Here are Robbie Savage's weekend Premier League and Carabao Cup predictions in full - tell us yours in the comments box below:   West Ham 3-1 Fulham   Cardiff 1-2 Watford   Burnley 1-1 Spurs   Bournemouth 1-2 Wolves   Newcastle 2-0 Huddersfield   Leicester 2-1 Crystal Palace   Man Utd 2-1 Liverpool   Arsenal 2-0 Southampton   Chelsea 1-3 Man City

Man City News - Man Utd fans will love Eric Cantona's reply when asked who he wants to win title - Duration: 2:22.

Eric Cantona admits it "hurts" to see Manchester City and Liverpool vying for the Premier League title

The Frenchman helped Manchester United to four championships during his time at Old Trafford but has been forced to watch their rivals battle it out for top honours in recent times

United haven't won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 but Cantona believes they would've been in with a shout this time around had Ole Gunnar Solskjaer come in sooner

Red Devils fans will love Cantona's response when asked which of United's rivals he would prefer to lift the trophy come May

He told Paddy Power : "Nobody. It's like asking me if I'd prefer to have my teeth made of wood or my legs of sponge

"It hurts a lot. But they play wonderful football. But now, if United had started the season 10 games ago, they would be top of the league

"City and Liverpool play nice attacking football, now and score plenty of goals, which is like Man United

They have the philosophy we did – enjoyment."  United have struggled since Fergie walked away from football and are fighting to finish in the top four this season

Cantona added: "It was hard, but all big clubs sometimes have bad times. They will be back, but the worst thing was that the identity of the club was missing

"Because you can lose, so long as you do it with the right identity and philosophy

Even when they could win, fans were not happy, they want to win but enjoy the game – it's entertainment

Man City News - Chelsea given two-transfer window ban for breaching rules over youth signings - Duration: 1:51.

Chelsea have been banned by FIFA from signing players for the next two transfer windows

As noted by The Mirror, the Blues have been found guilty of breaching rules over youth signings, and have also received a £640,000 fine, with FIFA releasing a statement of their own

SEE MORE: Blow for Chelsea: Zinedine Zidane lined up by Euro giants, could snub possible Blues job Given the struggles that Maurizio Sarri has encountered so far this season, that will undoubtedly complicate matters for the Italian tactician and the club moving forward in terms of strengthening the squad and bringing in players to suit his style of play

Further, with question marks over his future, any replacement will seemingly now be unable to stamp his mark on the squad in the more immediate future

As noted by BBC Sport, Chelsea did get some business done early for the summer though, with Christian Pulisic arriving in a £58m deal at the end of the season from Borussia Dortmund, and so perhaps that was sensible planning from the Blues in anticipation of this ruling

It remains to be seen whether or not they opt to launch an appeal, but ultimately this will be a major setback for the club as they now have to put any recruitment plans on hold for the next two transfer windows

"We are using him in the right way at the moment, of course the 20 matches this season will become 30 in the next, 40 in two years, and I think also the club has to decide because if I'm the club and I want Callum on the pitch with consistency, I have to sell another winger

Man Utd team news vs Liverpool: Predicted line up – Positive Martial and Lingard updates - Duration: 3:20.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has offered positive injury updates concerning both Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard ahead of the clash with Liverpool this weekend

The Red Devils have an opportunity to put a huge dent in their rivals' Premier League title hopes with victory at Old Trafford, despite being 14 points off the top of the table

United have won 11 out of the 13 games they have played since Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho and could now have both Martial and Lingard available as they look to continue that form

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Solskjaer said: "I hope and think Anthony will be ready and I hope Jesse will be ready because it's two different injuries

"So maybe more hope than think, with Anthony as well, but he's got a chance. "Anyway we still hope Jesse could be ready

Let's see. We've still got a couple of days' training and they need to be part of it

" Lingard picked up a hamstring injury during the 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain last week and was initially expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks

Martial also suffered a groin strain in the Champions League loss but is in contention to return against Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side – although Solskjaer may not risk the pair from the off

Meanwhile, the Red Devils boss has a selection headache at centre-back following Chris Smalling's impressive display in the 2-0 FA Cup win over Chelsea on Monday night

The England defender has played his way into contention to start alongside Victor Lindelof this weekend, although Eric Bailly would offer more pace to combat Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane

David de Gea is sure to return in goal while Romelu Lukaku's position in attack is not guaranteed with Alexis Sanchez pushing to feature after recovering from a freak knock sustained in a collision with the linesman while warming up to come on against PSG

The midfield trio of Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba is settled while Luke Shaw and Ashley Young will start at full-back with Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo all struggling for fitness

Manchester United predicted line-up vs Liverpool – Premier League (4-3-1-2): De Gea; Young, Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw; Matic, Herrera, Pogba; Mata; Lukaku, Rashford

✅ Breaking News - Chelsea given two transfer window ban by FIFA - Duration: 4:08.

Chelsea have been given a two transfer window ban by FIFA for breaching the rules around the transfer of minors — and it could see Eden Hazard stay at Stamford Bridge

The west London club have been found to have breached article 19 of FIFA's regulations with regards to the transfer of 29 minor players and article 18 regarding two further minors

They have now been banned from registering new players for the next two transfer windows — the coming summer window and next January

But Sportsmail understands they have been prepared for this eventuality for a while

Share this article Share They are likely to appeal to FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport

That means they will almost certainly be able to get the ban pushed back until after the summer window, in order to do any key business

They have also been fined 600,000 Swiss Francs (£460,314). The FA have been found to have breached the rules in connection with minors too and have been fined 510,000 Swiss Francs (£391,260)

Chelsea will now be desperate to keep hold of Hazard despite the serious interest from Real Madrid

The Belgian is a long-term target for Real but with Chelsea limited when it comes to signing replacements, he may have to stay

Callum Hudson-Odoi may also struggle to move to Bayern Munich, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek could have to stay at Stamford Bridge

A FIFA statement read: 'The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the English club Chelsea FC and The Football Association for breaches relating to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18

'Chelsea was found to have breached art. 19 of the Regulations in the case of twenty-nine (29) minor players and to have committed several other infringements relating to registration requirements for players

The club also breached art. 18bis of the Regulations in connection with two agreements it concluded concerning minors and which allowed it to influence other clubs in transfer-related matters

'The Disciplinary Committee sanctioned Chelsea with a ban on registering new players at both national and international level for the next two (2) complete and consecutive registration periods

This ban applies to the club as a whole - with the exception of the women's and futsal teams - and does not prevent the release of players

'Additionally, the club was fined CHF 600,000 and given a period of 90 days to regularise the situation of the minor players concerned

'The Football Association was also found to have breached the rules in connection with minors

It was fined CHF 510,000 and given a period of six months to address the situation concerning the international transfer and first registration of minors in football

'The protection of minors is a key element in FIFA's overall regulatory framework relating to the transfer of players and effective enforcement of these rules is paramount, as also confirmed on various occasions by the Court of Arbitration for Sport

'The decisions issued by the Disciplinary Committee were notified today and can be contested before the FIFA Appeal Committee
