It came as a huge surprise for us

- that the EU suddenly

- would have such a big role to play

- in affecting our trip to Paris.

In practical terms, it means that

- all Team Rynkeby teams

- on the ride to Paris

- must take along a portable toilet

- that can be used by both men and women

- when they have to go to the bathroom

- during the 7-8 hours

- spent every day cycling from one hotel in the morning to the next hotel in the evening.

It's going to be a huge task

- but I'm sure

- that our 48 teams will find a practical solution.

You have the trailer with you today

- so are you just out to test it?

We have to find out if it will work on our training ride today.

I think it's a bit of a shame

- it's going to mean really long breaks for us

- having to go into the trailer

- to use the bathroom.

I think it will be really nice

- you can go in there and get some privacy

- and not have to squat out in a field along with the other ladies.

The toilet trailer back there

- needs emptying

- who is responsible for that?

The volunteer team

- and that's fine, but it does take time away from other things.

Good or bad?

- You could say it's bad

- but it's necessary. When you have to go, you have to go.

Can't you just hop off and do what you need to do during the existing breaks?

- Some can. Not me though.

So how do you handle it?

I plan ahead

- and if we can't manage to plan

- then I think the trailers are fine.

At the end of the day,

- the EU says

- that it won't accept

- and that goes for Team Rynkeby cyclists too

- men and women

- that they...

- stand and pee in the bushes

- or out in a corn field

- and do what they have to do

- on the trip to Paris.

Well done, Mads

- good to have you with us again!

Is it a dirty deal?

- that's what we're calling it in cycling circles

- this is just a dirty deal...

- one you could throw right in the toilet!

A group of South Korean musicians will be giving a rare performance in North Korea this

evening -- the first of its kind in 13 years.

It comes ahead of the inter-Korean summit talks set to take place on April 27th.

It's also reciprocating performances by artists from North Korea who came to the South in

February ahead of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

The two-hour show tonight in the North Korean capital... called "Spring is Coming,"... will

include performances by popular artists such as Cho Yong-pil, the girl group Red Velvet

and Seohyun.

They'll be making a second appearance on Tuesday.

A South Korean Taekwondo team will also be performing this afternoon.

Their second show, on Monday, will include performers from the North.

Korean researchers mass produce swine flu vaccine using tobacco leaves - Duration: 1:41.

Korean researchers have found a new way to mass produce vaccines for pigs... against

foot and mouth disease.

And they used an unusual ingredient -- tobacco leaves.

It's cost effective, and hopefully can help Korea stay free of FMD.

Park Se-young has more.

This factory is filled with tobacco plants.

Using the leaves of these plants, Korean researchers have developed a technology to mass produce

a swine flu vaccine.

After inserting swine flu antibodies into tobacco seeds, the researchers grew the plants

and extracted the antibodies from their leaves.

When infected pigs were injected with the vaccine, their temperatures dropped immediately.

At one-third the price of existing cell-based vaccines, the plant-based vaccine is safe

and can be used for pork exports.

"It's much safer compared to live vaccines and can be used more easily on site.

Its marker function helps us achieve FMD-free status."

Tobacco leaves can be harvested monthly since plant factories are unaffected by seasons

or external conditions.

The vaccine provides a healthy way to utilize the tobacco plant.

"Instead of consuming tobacco the usual way, we can introduce techniques like protein extraction

and vaccine production to create added values."

The manufacturing technique for plant-derived vaccines could be applied to the production

of other medicines or for cosmetics.

North Korea will take part in next two Olympics: IOC chief Bach - Duration: 2:20.

The President of the International Olympic Committee,Thomas Bach, has returned from his

trip to North Korea, where he met with leader Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang.

As our Kim Hyesung reports, it looks like Bach got Kim's commitment to have North Korea

participate in the next summer and winter Olympics.

North Korea will take part in the next two Olympic Games in Tokyo and Beijing.

That's according to International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach on Saturday

upon his arrival in Beijing after meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang.

"The National Olympic Committee of DPRK...they announced us that they will definitely participate

in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 as well as the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.

This commitment was fully supported by the supreme leader of the DPRK in a vey open and

fruitful discussion I had with him yesterday."

Bach added that the IOC will make a proposal for a potential joint march or joint activities

for the two Koreas during the Tokyo and possibly the Beijing Games.

According to the Associated Press, the IOC chief had a 30-minute formal meeting with

Kim Jong-un on Friday followed by casual discussions while watching a football match in Pyongyang.

North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency on Saturday said Bach expressed his

"heartfelt thanks" to Kim over the North's participation at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics

in South Korea, which made the event a "symbol of peace."

The agency said the North Korean leader also thanked Bach for the IOC's special measures,

allowing North Korean athletes to compete in South Korea, and helping contribute to

a peaceful dialogue.

The IOC chief traveled to Pyongyang on Thursday and also met with North Korea's sports minister

during his stay.

Athletes from the two Koreas marched under a single "unified Korea" flag at the opening

ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, and the two Koreas have seen a significant

thaw in tensions ever since.

S. Korea, U.S. begin annual military drill postponed for Winter Olympics - Duration: 0:51.

South Korea and the United States today, as scheduled, are starting one of their joint

annual military exercises,... called Foal Eagle.

This year, Foal Eagle was postponed for the Winter Olympics and Paralympics in South Korea;

it normally starts in late February or early March.

It's also shorter this time.

Foal Eagle will take four weeks instead of the usual two months, wrapping up by the time

South Korean President Moon Jae-in heads for an historic summit with North Korean leader

Kim Jong-un.

The South Korean military has said that the size of the drills will be similar to previous

years,... it's reported that they'll be less "intense" -- that is, fewer U.S. strategic

assets will be involved, and so on, to emphasize the exercise's defensive nature.

Around 11-thousand-500 U.S. personnel are taking part alongside some 300-thousand South

Koreans.

S. Korea's exports rise 6.1% in March - Duration: 0:38.

Korea's exports in March continued to rise for a 17th straight month.

According to the trade ministry, outbound shipments came to just under 51-point-6 billion

dollars, the highest ever recorded for the month of March.

From a year earlier, they were up almost 3 billion dollars.

And Korea maintained a trade surplus for 77th straight month -- that's going on six and

a half years.

The surplus was worth nearly 6-point-9 billion.

For the first quarter as a whole, exports were up 10-point-3 percent... for Korea's

sixth quarter in a row of gains.

Three S. Korean sailors presumed to have been kidnapped in waters off Ghana - Duration: 0:42.

Three South Korean sailors on a fishing boat are presumed to have been kidnapped by pirates

in waters off the coast of Ghana.

According to Seoul's foreign ministry -- a fishing boat called the Marine 7-1-1 with

more than 40 crew members on board -- was believed to have been hijacked by pirates

last Monday.

While moving into Nigerian waters, the pirates moved some of the sailors,... including the

three South Koreans,... to a speed boat -- but their whereabouts are unknown.

The hijacked boat, meanwhile, arrived at a port in Ghana on Wednesday and some 40 Ghanaian

sailors were released.

The government says its closely cooperating with nearby countries to find the victims

Have you ever had difficulty to estimate

distance and elevation gain between a point A and B?

Hi, and welcome to this second training video to help you on your next trip.

Today, I want to talk to you about an application which helps me prepare most of my trips.

If you are a runner or a cyclist, you have probably already heard about it.

I want to talk about Strava.

Strava is an application that is developed by a company in San Francisco, California.

Wow! It's so much hilly over here.

Basically, it's an application that's made to record our trips

using a smart phone, some GPS models, or some watches,

like the Suunto that I introduced you on the last episode.

Then Strava encourages you to move more by offering you monthly challenges.

Like pedaling the equivalent of a half tout de France in ten days more than the event.

Or to gain in elevation the equivalent of Mount Everest in a week.

And to really encourage you to do it as much as possible, the site allows you to

compare yourself with all your friends on all kinds of points.

He does not hesitate to give you what needed to push yourself deeply by letting you see that

you're friends are faster than you and he even send you an email

as soon as someone kill one of your records.

Thanks to Strava, I always give the best by myself.

Therefore, my workouts are more beneficial on my physical form.

I did not even think to talk about this with this capsule, but I realize while

speaking that Strava is also a good tool to train before a trip.

What I wanted to talk about at the beginning is the route creation tool.

I use it often when I climb an unknown mountain and every

time when I'm going to ride in other countries.

As you can see, I'm preparing my next adventure.

From here, I can easily see all my day-to-day journeys with the distance that

I will have to go along with the elevation gain.

To look at a closer example, we will watch one of the days I have the

suffered the most in Japan.

From Toyota, to Misakubocho, in the Japanese alps.

Sun is about to set.

I will go back down soon, only 150 feet left to climb approx.

And I'm going to be almost done for where I wanted to go.

Things are going well.

Already, we can see that the distance to be traveled is 106.2 km and that the road gains in altitude 3129M.

We must see this number as an approximation, because sometimes some elements can be misleading.

As for example here, there is a tunnel, but the software believes that the road passes over the mountain,

so he calculates a big climb that does not exist in real life.

If we look below the map, we see very well all the elevations of the road.

It allows me to evaluate very well in the day when I'm going to have to work very hard

and when I will be able to rest.

We can even enlarge the map to see very precisely where we will go.

What is wonderful about all this is that once the ride is built on

the web page with the computer,

the route is in the phone

and we can look the map to know where we are with with a small point.

It's very convenient to know which street corner turn.

But beware !

The application do not warns when to turned.

So we have to stop from time to time to look at where you are on the map.

But then, why not just used Google map ?

Google Map is wonderful!

I use it several times a week while I drive and it makes a exceptional work.

I could ask Google Map to bring me in a very specific place and it could

ake me there without even having to look at it.

He would tell me vocally when to turn at every intersection.

But it's not the best tool to prepare a trip.

We will make a trip together to make for example.

Let's say I want to start in Granby, and that I want to go to Montreal ...

Through Sutton.

Oops, but I do not want to de ride twice at the same place.

So I slide my path on another road.

At this moment, if I record my track, it will never change.

It will be saved like that even if I open it in a year.

I've never cycled in those streets and I do not know if bikes are allowed.

There is an option in the top that allow you to change the path a bit

use the most popular routes for cyclists.

The community at Strava, it is a strong point.

Hundreds of thousands of peoples use the application and already over a billion

activities were recorded.

By combining all this data, Strava easily

able to recommend most popular routes.

It's even very easy to built an idea using the eat map.

It is so hot!

And this map only illustrates the activities made in the sport mode that we are.

Wich is on bike or on foot.

It is very convenient to find the most popular trail on a mountain, and even

sometimes unofficial trail that do not even show on map.

Also, if you prefer to ride few more kilometers to avoid big

hill, Strava even offers to find the road with the least elevation gain.

When finished, I save the route, and I can even keep notes.

That's it, then, you just have to leave and follow your route on your smartphone.

The application is available on Android or iOS.

I go on my profile, then on the road, and all the trips I've recorded are there.

Unfortunately, the route with the map can't be physically saved in

the phone and requires an internet connection.

But it does not matter, because if you do not have no internet connection during your travels

I have tips for that.

We will discuss about it next week.

Because yes, Strava may be an exceptional application, but it still has cons.

For example, since they changed from google maps to mapbox, it is no longer possible

to use Google Street View.

I am forced to use my route in Strava and Google Map in a second window

to view my trip and see the streets in which I will pass.

Like that when I have doubts I can make sure the road is asphalt

and that I will not find myself on a speed circuit with a tiny shoulder.

Yes, because I can even search the speed signs.

And even if Strava suggests road used by cyclists, I prefer not to take

of chance and loot at everything by myself.

Does this bridge really have bike lane.

Yes Super!

And this one?

No ... Oops ...

We will find another one.

Is this tunnel suitable for bikes?

From there ... It's up to you to judge.

If anyone from Strava is listening, Please, I am convinced that you have chosen

Mapbox for a good reason.

But let us choose the map we wants to use.

If Suunto is able to do it on his site, I'm sure you can

to do it too.

Another cons with Strava is that when creates long routes, the software crash.

Then you have to restart all over again.

So when it happens to me, rather than set a departure and arrival point I will place

points about every 50km and usually it calculates quite well.

The last negative point of Strava, is that they dont care at all about community comments.

They only do as they want.

For example, let's say I'm going to run to outside.

When I finished, Strava cheer me because I just had my best time on my first kilometer.

That's good, but I'm not able to know what was my previous record.

It would be nice to have a board that displays my best times for each of the distances,

as it is possible to do with the segments.

At Strava a segment is a route between a point A and B that everyone can challenge on.

Anyone can create one.

I can say that from home up to a friend of mine, well it's a segment

and everyone can challenge on to be the faster.

If we look at an example, that's the list of my best times on a segment.

But it's not possible to do it for 1km, no matter, where it was run.

And yet, if Strava is able to tell me that I just beat my 3rd, 2nd or my best

time, on my first KM,

It means that information is available somewhere…

Obviously, I'm not the only one who wants this function.

I leave a comment there about 2 years ago in this page on the official Strava forum.

Today it's been six years since peoples ask for this feature on the same page of the forum every week.

And Strava has still not done anything, nor even answered.

And this is only one example among many others.

In short, the team of this wonderful application should be more attentive to their users.

Good! Enough of whimpering for today, I had a little boogey on her heart and she came out.

I think it's all over for today.

I wanted to introduce you to one of my tools the most useful to prepare my trips

on foot, in the mountains or by bike.

I hope it will help you in your next trip, or that will even encourage you

to leave for an adventure.

For me, it is an indispensable tool.

It is thanks to this application that I am able to know that I am always

on the right track.

My watch is my best tool to point a destination, retrace my steps and know my altitude.

But when I have to follow a route, Strava is my favorite tool.

If you have not seen the last episode or I'm talking about my watch, you can

see it by clicking on the link right there at the top.

I hope you liked the video, if yes you can give me a thumbs up.

If you have questions or comments, you can write me in the box just below the video.

Don't be shy, that's made just for this.

Finally, do not forget to subscribe, right there.

And see you next week to talk about traveling without an internet connection

on your phone.

See you soon!

🤩50% d'ECONOMIES de CARBURANT A VIE❗️😵LE TUTO ULTIME 😱❗️❗️ - Duration: 6:19.

Hi everybody!

this video is of extreme importance

exclusive worldwide

I'm going to show you an awesome thing that will allow you

to save 50% fuel

for life!

it's right now on Garage, Bangers,

and Rock'n Roll

the thing I'm going to show you is something very simple

and very effective

something that the greatest economists

the world's biggest car manufacturers

have not even imagined

something that is going to have an impact

on global fuel economy

imagine a bit, it's the Revolution

in the oil industry

what I'm going to show you now is going to cause an oil shock

but upside down

as you all know

when driving with our 4 wheels touching the ground

tires in contact with the ground

experience frictional forces

and dissipate energy in the form of heat

the wider your tires are

the bigger is the contact area

on the ground and so

the bigger is the energy dissipation

and this loss of energy,

this inefficiency

by friction force, by friction on the ground

well, you pay for it

with your fuel !

so together we will see how to be

more effective at that level

to lose less energy

and therefore save fuel

and for that I need an expert

I call Francis

the King of Gliding

Hi! How farts?

Hi me it's Francis, King of the vice

I am a surfer

youtuber, mecamateur

not like your sister

Oh, I broke you!

so here I show you something: this is wax (fart in French)

but you've never seen such a thing yet !

I broke you again

then the wax is put under the surfboards

it allows you to surf

on the wave, you see

but here I am a little bit far from my sea then

I'll show you on skis, it's the same

so skiing you do not glide on that,

you glide on this side actually

so you take the wax

and then you put it

and you spread it like that

and there the movement

with wax it's Northeast

to the South West

and you fart and you fart

and you fart

so now look good

I will show you the ultimate trick

I'll show you how you're going to wax

your car

so to wax your car

I would like to show you on the yellow

but there I can not because I broke it

so I show you once how to do

on the spare wheel but after you get off

I'm off

so the method is simple huh?

you take your wax in your right hand

and you take the tire in your left hand

and on the tread of the tire

you're farting, you're farting

you fart

but then I went too fast for you, I make it in slow motion

You fart,

you fart

you fart

and all the strength of the movement, it must come

elbow and shoulder

and you fart and you fart

and you fart

here you go: do like that on the 4 tires, you're the king of the road

I'll let you go

I have two, three competitions to finish, Bye!

OK! thank you Francis, the King of the vice

so we'll check that

I'll go for a ride with the Twingo

without waxing the tires, then I wax the tires

and we look together at the difference

and the savings achieved

Well, here's the test: it will be in two parts

1st try: now on the road:

I will drive at 80 km / h (it will be 70 in fact)

and I expected you to listen

to the engine speed

unfortunately on the Twingo right now I have a problem:

there is a wheel bearing in the front that makes an impossible sound

so we do not hear the engine

Well, I will ask you to trust me

the second test is the same

on the same road, I'm going to roll

at the same engine speed and we'll see if

I go faster or slower

once the wheels are waxed

So 1st test: the wheels are normal

no fart.

70km / h ...

I am in 4th gear

so listen to the engine

what it gives

unfortunately again, we do not hear

very well the engine because of the wheel bearing

now I'm going to wax the 4 wheels

I just finished waxing my 4 tires

now we will see what it looks like on the road

ok then there with the 4 wax tires,

I do not even tell you,

I have to be careful not to press the accelerator too hard

because it pushes!

it pushes!

it's like Vega Missyl, incredible!

Ooh !!

and there more than 90km / h!

I'm doing exactly

the same way

I am in 4th gear

and I do exactly the same way

on the accelerator! unbelievable!

it's just….

change! But! unbelievable!

what an acceleration!

So here it is! the same road! more than 90km / h

UK's beleaguered forces RAF chief warns Air Force needs cash injection to fight

Russia the RAF is in desperate need of a major cash injection should is to go

head-to-head with Russia the head of the service has claimed Air Chief Marshal

Sir Stephen Hillier said the hard-pressed RAF is under threat having

been taken for granted for decades due to constant deployments speaking to the

Telegraph as the service prepares to mark its 100th birthday

he said the cash-strapped services at its busiest for generations and must

modernize to avoid losing its edge over other states Sir Stephen says the RAF

remains at the forefront of the defense of our nation not least in the face of

an assertive and aggressive Russian threat to us our allies in the

international rules-based system his shocking comments come as the RAF

tomorrow sees in its second century after being formed towards the end of

ww1 by the Royal Flying Corps in the Royal Naval Air Service Sir Stevens

claims mirror plans for another defense review for both the RAF and the Armed

Forces with budgets facing an eye-watering pound 20 BN shortfall over

the next ten years the remarks also echo recent criticisms the RAF must also

compete to protect communications and GPS networks

he said the ability to dominate enemies has been a baseline assumption in our

joint military endeavour over the last three decades . he added but our control

of the air is now being challenged as we have seen with the Russians in Syria and

through other state-based threats as others seek rapidly to match or even

surpass our current technological edge we must modernize our capabilities in

air space and cyber space we need look back no further than the

Falklands conflict to recall what determined air opposition can do to our

air naval and land forces when air superiority is not achieved

quick-thinking RAF typhoons have scared to intercept potentially hostile

aircraft 42 times in the past year Sir Stephen said the RAF is stretched by

constant deployment operations and Britain's Tornado Jets have been called

overseas for 28 years he warned gaps left by defense cuts must

be filled in the force needs to give greater resilience and sustainability to

a hard-pressed frontline he said we need the resources money and people to make

all this happen whilst still driving modernization and efficiency the 2015

defence review said the RAF stands to fly 138 new f-35b jets with the Navy and

News Brief March 30, 2018 - Duration: 10:24.

The United States kicked out 60 Russian diplomats and closed a Russian Consulate.

Russian officials were saying that they were going to respond with a reciprocal move.

And that is exactly what they have done.

A U.S. Consulate closed - 60 Americans sent home.

And this is the latest move in a diplomatic fight that started when a former Russian double

agent was poisoned on British soil.

And there might be more drama coming.

Here's State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert talking to reporters yesterday.

Or you reserve the right...

We reserve the right to respond.

To respond to their response?

Correct.

All right.

I want to bring in NPR's Tamara Keith here.

She covers the White House and hosts NPR's Politics Podcast.

Hi, Tam.

Hello.

OK.

So the U.S. threatening to respond to Russia's response.

What now?

Where does this end?

So the United States, according to both Heather Nauert and also a statement from press secretary

Sarah Sanders, feels that Russia's move was not warranted.

The idea being that the United States was justified in their response, and it wasn't

just the United States - that it was the U.S. and 28 other countries responding to this

chemical attack on U.K. soil on this former Russian spy and his daughter and that Russia's

response to the response, they say, is unjustified.

Now, what the U.S. and these other countries might do - that is not clear.

And the president of United States has often said - and his aides have often said - that

he doesn't like to foreshadow.

Right.

He doesn't like to signal to others, to us and to other countries what he's going to

do.

Has he been really involved in this?

Well, that's a...

Unclear.

...Really good question, and it's not clear.

What White House aides will say is that he was briefed all along, that he was involved

in the decision to expel the Russian diplomats/spies, depending on who you're asking.

However, the president himself has not tweeted about this.

He has not spoken publicly about it.

He gave a big, wide-ranging speech in Ohio yesterday, and the word Russia did not come

up.

With these actions, though - even if he's not speaking - does it signal a tougher approach

to Russia than we saw from him when he first came into office?

There have been many actions that have been tougher, including arming - or providing arms

- to Ukraine late last year, a round of sanctions a couple of weeks ago that were sort of pushed

by Congress.

And then the White House and Treasury Department responded to that push from Congress and put

in some sanctions related to Russian election interference in the 2016 election - and now

this move in conjunction with a bunch of U.S. allies.

It is a tough approach and a stronger approach than early on.

And before I let you go, some other Russia news we should probably talk about - Jeff

Sessions, the attorney general - there's a development involving him and the Russia investigation,

right?

That is correct.

So several Republican members of Congress had said that they wanted a second special

counsel to investigate misconduct that they saw by the FBI and Justice Department.

Sessions is saying that is not necessary at this point, that he has put a U.S. attorney

in Utah, John Huber, in charge of looking into these things.

And for now, those members of Congress are OK with that.

OK.

So one special counsel for now.

For now, but he is not ruling out the possibility of another one.

But there is a U.S. attorney now looking into these claims and concerns brought up by Republicans

in Congress.

NPR's Tamara Keith.

Tam, thanks as always.

You're welcome as always.

OK.

So today, we may learn some new details in the shooting death of Stephon Clark, the 22-year-old

unarmed black man who was killed by police on March 18 in Sacramento, Calif.

Yeah, Clark's family is going to give a press conference later this morning.

This comes a day after his funeral and a day after protests continued in Sacramento.

Reverend Al Sharpton gave a eulogy yesterday, and he responded to White House press secretary

Sarah Sanders who, earlier this week, called the shooting a, quote, "local matter."

No, this is not a local matter.

They've been killing young black men all over the country.

So where is all of this going to lead?

All right.

We want to bring in Nick Miller with Capital Public Radio in Sacramento.

He's been covering this story.

Hi, Nick.

Hi.

You covered the funeral for Stephon Clark yesterday.

Can you take us there?

What did it feel like?

The family - they'd opened it to the public, and it was packed.

It drew a very large capacity crowd - hundreds of people.

And dozens weren't able to even get into the church.

The services were, of course, emotional, but they were also unscripted and passionate.

Clark's brother Ste'vonte, who - he's grieved very publicly, interrupted speakers on a few

occasions and continued a theme he's touched on since his brother's death of how he wants

to establish community services and building monuments in his brother's name throughout

Sacramento.

We're going to do coliseums for Stephon.

We're going to do libraries.

We're going to do resources centers.

We're going to - Stephon is going to live for generations to generations to generations

to generations.

And Reverend Al Sharpton, as you mentioned, gave Clark's eulogy.

And his message really focused on bringing the issue of police shootings of black men

to Washington, and specifically to President Trump's doorstep.

He criticized the president for being mute on police shootings.

And Sharpton hinted that he might be flying families of the victims of police shootings

to D.C. in the coming weeks for an event.

Well, so Sharpton's vow to keep this movement going strong - does that reflect an expectation

that these protests in Sacramento are still going to be going strong?

I think so.

So last night was the third-straight evening of protests downtown after - and this after

a week and a half of near continuous demonstrations.

There was a lot of discussion over whether the activists would again be able to block

thousands of fans from entering the evening's Sacramento Kings game because this has happened

twice in the past week already.

But there was a lot of police - a very heightened security presence near the arena.

And that allowed the game to go forward without any issues, though attendance, I'm told, was

down.

There was a protest.

And it did cause problems though, especially for rush-hour traffic.

But organizers - and even Ste'vonte Clark - they were there at the demonstration.

They pleaded with the protesters to not block the Kings game.

And interestingly, the Kings had announced the day before a sort of special partnership

with the local Black Lives Matter chapter to help the Clark family.

And they're reportedly putting $60,000 towards this partnership.

And what happens now?

Are we going to be learning more about his death?

Yes.

The big news for Friday is a press conference with the family this morning.

Attorneys for the families say they will be sharing results of their independent autopsy,

which was performed by medical examiner Bennet Omalu.

And he's the doctor known for first discovering CTE in football players.

He has...

Oh, yeah.

...A reputation - a certain credibility.

The results of this independent autopsy could spark even more demonstrations.

The family's also expected to file a federal lawsuit.

Meanwhile, the Sacramento County coroner report isn't yet written, and there are more demonstrations

pinned to the weekend.

All right.

Capital Public Radio's Nick Miller, thanks a lot.

Thank you.

OK, we want to turn now to reports about a big legal battle that could be brewing between

the federal government and states over climate change.

It could really impact anyone in the market for a new car in the coming years.

Right.

The Environmental Protection Agency is expected to decide this weekend whether it's going

to move forward with a plan to scrap the current target standards on auto emissions.

Now, the Obama administration put those standards in place.

The state of California has a special waiver to impose its own fuel economy rules.

And California says it's ready to go to court to keep them.

So what's at stake for the auto industry and for efforts to cut back on pollution?

Well, let's ask Evan Halper of the LA Times who's been reporting this story.

Good morning, Evan.

Good morning.

So let's start with the current fuel-economy standards that are in place right now.

What are they, and why are they so important to California?

This program is a big deal in the fight against climate change and smog.

It may be the single biggest action taken on the planet to reduce greenhouse gases.

The national program was championed in its current incarnation by California, which has

ambitious goals for fighting climate change and chronic smog.

But meeting those goals takes a lot of aggressive action.

And the rule mandates that manufacturers reach an average of 55 miles per gallon for their

cars and SUVs by 2025.

And automakers - and particularly American automakers - complain the technology may be

there, but the consumer interest isn't.

With gas prices low and - car companies say people are interested in owning SUVs and trucks,

and they want to keep selling more of them.

OK, so that's the argument that the EPA is making in all this, though - is to help the

manufacturers who say this is just not something that's realistic at this point for them if

they want to keep selling the cars they're selling.

Right.

Exactly.

Well, what what happens now?

I mean, if that's the position of the Trump administration, and California's threatening

legal action, what happens next?

And could California's move lead to other states challenging the EPA?

Yes, absolutely.

So the car manufactures are happy that EPA's heeding their request.

But they're getting very uncomfortable with the way this is all playing out.

They were hoping that some kind of deal can be brokered between the EPA and California,

and that's not looking likely.

And so 13 other states follow California's rules, and all of them are getting ready to

fight.

And the EPA is taking an increasingly threatening tone, so it looks like we have a big battle

ahead.

A big battle about climate change and about these fuel economy standards in the auto industry

- big stakes.

LA Times reporter Evan Halper joining us this morning.

Evan, thanks a lot.

Thank you.
