Sanders also says Senate should use Australian system as model while crafting an alternative to Republicans replacement for Obamacare
Bernie Sanders has declared President Donald Trump was right .
Sanders, a self described democratic socialist who ran for the Democratic presidential nomination last year, said the US Senate should use the Australian system as a model while crafting an alternative to the Republican healthcare legislation that Trump endorses.
President Trump is right. The Australian healthcare system provides healthcare to all of its people at a fraction of the cost than we do,
President Trump is right. The Australian health care system provides health care to all of its people at a fraction of the cost than we do.
The tweet was accompanied that set out the virtues of , saying it guarantees better service to all Australians at about half the cost of US healthcare. The video also notes that Australians can expect to live longer than Americans on average.
Sanderss tweet came two days after Trump told the Australian prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, in New York: You have better healthcare than we do.
The presidents comment raised eyebrows, coming just after the and move the US system further away from universal coverage.
The White House later said Trump was simply being nice to an ally and did not think the United States should adopt Australias healthcare approach.
The healthcare legislation that Trump endorses would pare back insurance protections for the sick and, according to nonpartisan congressional researchers, would lead to 24 million more Americans being without health coverage by 2026. But the bills approval in the House on Thursday sent the legislation to the Senate, where it has little support.
We will take this pathetic healthcare bill, throw it in the garbage can and do something that will work for ordinary Americans instead, Sanders said in a second tweet on Saturday.
A Vermont independent, Sanders has become more influential in the Senate since 2016, when he took his long shot presidential bid and turned it into a political movement against inequality.

✅ Breaking News - Solskjaer urges Manchester United winger Sanchez to 'find himself' - Duration: 2:14.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted he did not have the answer to Alexis Sanchez's struggles at Manchester United after the winger failed to make an impact against Paris Saint-Germain
Sanchez replaced the injured Jesse Lingard just before half-time on Tuesday night but the Chilean was largely ineffective as PSG scored twice within 15 minutes of the restart at Old Trafford
Solskjaer has inspired an upturn in form for several United players since he was installed as caretaker coach on December 19 but the former Arsenal man is still struggling to find his best form
Share this article Share 979 shares The 30-year-old has only made three starts under Solskjaer amid injury issues and a lack of form
Sanchez may start the FA Cup fifth round tie at Chelsea on Monday if Martial and Lingard fail to recover but Solskjaer insists he is powerless to improve him
'I can't do anything about Alexis Sanchez,' Solskjaer said. 'When he plays he needs to find himself because we know there's a quality player there
' Solskjaer admitted PSG's 2-0 victory provided a 'reality check' for United, who had not lost since Jose Mourinho's last match in charge at Liverpool on December 16
He said: 'Today we weren't at their level. This is a level up from what we've played against, the games we've had
We had a great run. 'We came into the game in a great frame of mind and great form but of course it was a big step up
'They have quality from the 'keeper to the striker. There is a reason why they are favourites for the Champions League
That's the level we need to aim for. ' Share this article Share 979 shares

✅ Breaking News - Scholes has Jose to thank as Oldham boss begins with emphatic win - Duration: 6:05.Paul Scholes kicked off his managerial career with an emphatic win – thanks in part to a man named Jose
The new Oldham Athletic boss and Old Trafford legend has famously often been a critic of former United manager Jose Mourinho
But as he swapped the TV studios for the dugout, man-of-the-match Jose Baxter was the name on everyone's lips as the Scholes era began with a thumping 4-1 victory for the Latics on Tuesday night
Share this article Share 34 shares Former Everton man Baxter was on hand to slot home from 12 yards out at the end of a scrappy first half for the opener
Another Scouser, on-loan Wigan man Callum Lang made it two after the break before Bevis Mugabi pulled one back almost instantly for the visitors - but late goals from Mohamed Maouche and Chris Missilou got Scholes off to a flyer
While he may not have been a fan of his playing style, there appeared to be a nod to Mourinho's dress sense when Scholes emerged from the tunnel all in black with a long black jacket that looked like it had come straight from the Portuguese's wardrobe
The 44-year-old was given a standing ovation from a healthier than usual home crowd, who immediately launched into a chorus of 'Paul Scholes' blue and white army'
It would have been music to Scholes's ears, although a chant of 'We hate Man U, and City too' moments later may not have been
Scholes stood on the edge of his technical area ready for the opening exchanges, with arms folded and collar upturned
However, straight from the kick-off Yeovil striker Alex Fisher clattered into Oldham full-back Tom Hamer and a four-minute delay ensued, with both men on the turf
One of the main questions surrounding Scholes's willingness to take the gig at his boyhood club was over how he would deal with alleged interference from the boardroom
Scholes was adamant that he, and not owner Abdallah Lemsagam, would be picking the team
We did not have to wait long for proof of that when, on 11 minutes, former Brighton man Rob Hunt replaced Hamer
According to sources, Hunt was barred from the starting XI for having the temerity to turn down a move to Lincoln City for less money, but Scholes had no hesitation in introducing him here
There was a let-off with the first action of note on 14 minutes when, after a scrappy opening, Yeovil's Jake Gray smashed a volley against a post, much to the frustration of the 56 hardy souls who had made the long journey north in the Chadderton Road End
Reminders that this was not Old Trafford were all around. The advertisement boards extolled the virtues of the Blue Tiffin Curry House rather than Gazprom and the standard of football in the first 30 minutes left plenty to be desired
However, there could be no disputing Scholes's influence off the field.Oldham's pre-match press conferences usually have an attendance of three – the club website, the local radio station and a student from a Manchester-based journalism course
On Tuesday, no fewer than 43 members of the press converged Boundary Park for Scholes's unveiling
Such was the interest that the event was moved from the compact press room under the main stand to the comparative luxury of the fans' match day bar, which is essentially a cabin on stilts
Scholes, as he so often did in his playing career, took it all in his stride, although he did admit to a few sleepless hours as he geared up for this touchline debut
It was more of the same in his first programme notes. Scholes opened by stating 'I couldn't think of a better club to begin my journey with' before reverting to humble mode
'This isn't about me,' he added. 'It's about the players, the staff, the fans and everyone associated with Oldham Athletic
'Back on the field came the first sign when Oldham lined up for a corner with an England-style love train of four players bunched on the edge of the area, rather than the middle
Whatever the intention, the result was winger Gevaro Nepomuceno hammering his shot onto the roof of the stand
Oldham got better and the first goal of the Scholes era came in the fifth minute of six added on at the end of the first-half when a delightful flick from winger Johan Branger-Engone found Nepomuceno who then teed up Baxter in acres of space to curl into the far corner from around 12 yards out
Fresh from a Scholes team talk, Oldham went 2-0 up when Lang nodded in a Nepomuceno cross from close range on 51 minutes but moments later Yeovil were back in it thanks to Mugabi, who scrambled home a free-kick
With two minutes to play French midfielder Maouche ended the contest with a beauty from outside the area that his manager would have been proud of and seconds later Missilou made it four to cap a perfect start
The majority of the 3,868 went home happy, along with their new manager, who only had 15 minutes to drive at the end of a satisfactory evening

Update Donald Trump meets with prominent Sanders supporter Tulsi Gabbard US news The Guardian - Duration: 4:21.Update Donald Trump meets with prominent Sanders supporter Tulsi Gabbard US news The Guardian
At first glance the Democrat seems an unlikely counsellor, but her criticism of Obama and hard line on immigration might appeal to the president elect
At first glance the Democrat seems an unlikely counsellor, but her criticism of Obama and hard line on immigration might appeal to the president elect
Donald Trumps unorthodox US presidential transition continued on Monday when he held talks with one of the most prominent supporters of leftwing Democrat .
The president elects first meeting of the day at Trump Tower in New York a Democratic maverick who endorsed the socialist Sanders during his unsuccessful primary battle with Hillary Clinton.
Over the past few days Trump has also held talks with Mitt Romney, who once branded him a phony but is now under consideration for possible secretary of state, Ted Cruz, whom he labelled Lyin Ted during the Republican primary campaign, and , who is mooted as a possible education secretary.
The celebrity businessmans aides have characterised him as a deal maker who intends to cast the net wide for diverse talents. Barack Obama has called Trump pragmatic, not an ideologue, while former secretary of state Henry Kissinger said he would be a unique president because he has no obligation to any particular group. He is entertaining both loyalists and rivals, although – Jeff Sessions for attorney general, Mike Pompeo for CIA chief and Michael Flynn for national security adviser – have been in the former category.
At first glance Gabbard, who is from Hawaii and is the first Hindu member of the US Congress, seems an unlikely counsellor. She resigned from the Democratic National Committee to back Vermont senator Sanders and him for president at the party convention in July, crediting him with starting a movement of love and compassion, although by then Clintons victory was certain.
But the Iraq war veteran has also expressed views that might appeal to Trump, criticising Obama, and taking a hard line on immigration. In 2014, she called for a rollback of the visa waiver programme for Britain and other European countries with what she called Islamic extremist populations.
In October last year she tweeted: Al Qaeda attacked us on 9/11 and must be defeated. Obama wont bomb them in Syria. Putin did. . She was then who joined Republicans to pass a bill mandating a stronger screening process for refugees from Iraq and Syria coming to the US.
Media reports have suggested that Trumps chief strategist Steve Bannon is an admirer of Gabbard. Last week, when 169 Democrats condemning Bannons appointment by Trump for encouraging white nationalism, she was not among them.
Trump, the former host of The Apprentice, continues to throw out hints and teases about his cabinet picks reminiscent of a reality TV show. We really had some great meetings, and youll be hearing about them soon, he said on Sunday.
His other meetings on Monday included talks with Oklahoma governor Mary Fallin, former Texas governor and Republican presidential rival Rick Perry, and executives and anchors from major TV networks.
Kellyanne Conway, Trumps former campaign manager and still a key aide, told Fox News that Perry is a possible contender to lead the defense or energy departments while Fallin is being considered to head the interior department.
Meanwhile there was no sign of an end to the war of words between Trump and the . Actor Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Vice President Aaron Burr in the award winning musical, directly addressed Vice President elect Mike Pence after Fridays performance, expressing fears that his administration would not protect Americas diversity.
Trump used Twitter to demand an apology. But Dixon that he was delivering the message on behalf of the producers, creators and the cast. We recognise Hamilton is an inherently American story, its told by the definition of the American community, he said.
The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!
We are men and women of different colours, creeds and orientations and the resonant nature of the show throughout the world demands we make statements when there are important issues facing us as a community. We wanted to stand up and spread a message of love and unity considering the emotional outpouring since the election.
Conversation is not harassment and I was appreciative that Vice President elect Pence stood there and listened to what we had to say.
Dixon said Pence was welcome to come backstage to have conversations with the cast about their concerns. He added that the shows creator Lin Manuel Miranda, who played Hamilton as a member of the original cast, was involved in writing the message.
Asked how he felt about Trumps demand for an apology, Dixon said: There is nothing to apologise for … We welcome at Hamilton because I think the power of our show and the way we tell it is undeniable.
Trump tweeted nine times over the weekend. Two tweets were about his transition plans; the other messages complained about Hamilton, a skit on Saturday Night Live, Democratic senator Harry Reid and his recently settled fraud case over Trump University.
The billionaire businessman will spend Thanksgiving at his resort in Florida. Jason Miller, a spokesman for the transition team, said Trump would get together with family and take a brief break from transition planning, hopefully eating some turkey.
Vice President elect Mike Pence is travelling for the holiday to Mississippi, where his son, a marine who is training to be a pilot, is stationed.

Royal news : Meghan Markle's baby shower reveals sad secret about her new life - Duration: 6:29.Meghan Markle is in New York right now celebrating hers. She is no doubt going to be heading back to Old Blighty with enormous suitcases full of Petit Bateau rompers and $687 cashmere blankies, perfect for a baby who will grow up having playdates with a future king — aka George, Prince Of Knee Socks
Her celebrity pals have overnight our time descended on The Mark, which bills itself as the city's "most boldly lavish" hotel (and where a room will set you back about $A1118 a night)
Dozens and dozens of pale pink roses were seen being delivered to the hotel along with decorative trees (sure, that seems totally normal)
The hotel's restaurant is run by two-Michelin starred famed chef Jean Georges, so it is safe to assume there will be no limp mini quiches and plastic cups of non-alcoholic punch here
Joining her are her Suits co-star Abigail Spencer who was seen making a quick dash into the hotel, clearly regretting her decision to wear a beanie and padded coat to front a veritable wall of paparazzi
Friends Jessica Mulroney and Serena Williams were also on the guest list. But the whole lavish, lovely affair has revealed a strange and sad truth about Meghan's life
She has made no new friends since she moved to London. Not one. Nada. Zilch. I believe the technical term might be Nigel no (new) friends
The trusted and beloved circle of women Meghan is surrounding herself with is the same coterie of girlfriends she had when she rolled up her yoga mat, shuttered her lifestyle blog The Tig and moved into Kensington Palace
They are the same gaggle of former co-stars, B-listers, and stylists who got the smattering of invitations to her wedding that didn't go to people with names like the Honourable Arabella Minter-Calthorpe-Forbisher or Bunter Rothschild
And while in the months since becoming a fully-fledged HRH Meghan has learnt the finer points of the perfect curtsy and how to avoid Princess Michael of Kent in the Palace parking lot, in all that time, she has not added one British pal to her inner circle
Meghan might have won the hearts of the Union Jack-waving hordes, Prince Charles and the Queen's dogs, but she has yet to forge any close bonds with people who aren't descendants of Queen Victoria or have four legs
For a woman whose warmth is evident every time she comes within hugging distance of a child or rescue dog, it is curious she has not found a single new person to join her entourage
She hasn't become pal-y with any of Harry's aristo mates (though being pregnant and not able to skull pints or do shots of Jagermeister might hinder developing these particular relationships)
Nor has she built a close bond with one of the few people on the planet who understand the ferocious scrutiny and need for fascinators she now faces — her sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge
Again, to be fair, they are very different people, one of whom built a $7 million fortune through her hard work and the other who had two-part time jobs in nine years and is working assiduously to bring the Alice band back
Meghan has created a lovely new life for herself in London: There's the royal husband and the baby on the way, along with the $5
4 million renovation of a delightful 10-bedroom "cottage" that is in spitting distance of Soho Farmhouse and the Queen's Windsor weekender
But it must surely be a lonely existence. There are only so many times you can get your US-based pals to pop on a flight across the Atlantic and keep them tucked away in one of your impeccably-arranged spare bedrooms for a few days of herbal tea and fireside catch-ups
Sure, these women might only be a WhatsApp group chat away, but that is not the same as having pals in the same country as you — people you can trust to help you find the perfect non-gender-specific paint swatch for your baby's bedroom
Everyone needs friends they know will jump in an Uber when you need a hug or someone to listen to you and force feed you macarons to cheer you up before you have to spend three weeks ensconced in a Scottish castle with no heating
That she hasn't built any close friendships in London makes me feel quite sad. True, it might be hard to find people to trust given her exalted position, but the rest of the Windsor clan have a largely, G & T-swilling gaggle of friends
Surely, there must be one or two among them Meghan could become mates with, people who would be happy to let her bang on about the power of reiki or want her recipe for smashed avo on toast
This year holds so much for Megs: a bubba and her own British mansion, but wouldn't it be lovely if she also made a friend or two?Bizarre conspiracy theory suggests Meghan is faking her pregnancy0:47 Social media is going into meltdown surrounding the authenticity of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's pregnancy
