chrome os 73 just dropped for my pixelbook on the beta channel a couple days ago, and
oh boy we've got a lot to cover.
But first, a couple of tips.
and this first one is actually a really really good one, if you don't already know about
you're seriously missing out.
So if you plug in a monitor to your chromebook, once it's connected you can literally just
close the lid on the laptop, and one slightly jerky animation later, and it's basically
transformed into a full on desktop pc.
Of course you also need to have a mouse and keyboard ready , because the trackpad and
keyboard from the laptop are… inaccessible.
Once you're using your laptop as a desktop you don't have a google assistant button,
so how do you launch the google assistant.
Well there's a handy little keyboard shortcut for that, just press search + A or windows
+ A
And onto the new features.
The first one being picture in picture, so the situation with this is really quite annoying
because youve been able to use picture in picture on chrome for windows for quite a
while now actually, but on chrome OS you still can't do it, even if you're on the beta channel.
You can get an extension that should work if you're on the developer channel, but for
now the picture in picture option in the right click menu is still greyed out [Screenshot],
it will hopefully be up and working real soon tho.
And next up, potentially even more exciting depending on what phone you have is instant
tethering.
Sure it's definitely not a new feature, but it's now been rolled out to many chromebooks,
and a couple of new phones , mainly high end ones from oneplus, lg, samsung and huawei,
and of course also the pixels but they already had it.
And for those of you sitting here wondering what instant tethering is.
I'll quickly explain, so imagine you're on your phone somewhere without wifi, but you're
using the internet, because you have cellular data.
Instant tethering is basically that, but for laptops, and of course you're using the cellular
from your phone and not from the laptop itself.
Have you ever tried making a typo when trying to go to a website and then getting redirected
to some weird fishy looking site.
Well that might not happen so much anymore because if you go to a website like that,
you will now get a popup saying "did you mean to go to" and then the website you
probably meant to go to.
Right now you have to actually go to chrome://flags and make sure it's enabled, but in the future
it will be on by default.
Okay now for best new feature, pdf annotation yup that's right if you open any pdf in the
chrome browser.
There's a little pen up there in the corner, and if you click you can just take your pen
or your finger or whatever and just draw and highlight whatever you want, you can even
change the color it's pretty much like drawing in google keep.
But when you're done you need to remember to download the pdf, because it wont save
your annotations unless if it's downloaded locally to your computer or if it's in your
google drive.
Also right now you have to go to flags and enable it, and you need to be on chrome os
73 for it to even work.
Oh yeah and now the play/pause key actually works, even if the site you're trying to control
is in the background, i mean previously it just didn't work at all so it's definitely
an improvement.
And finally to the ones of you still watching thanks to a commit in the chromium gerrit
or jerrit or however you pronounce that, we have evidence to suggest that a multiple desktops
feature is in the works, you know like the one that no one uses on windows and the one
everyone uses on macs.
So that's it for this video, if you have something to say there's a comment section right here
*points down*, if you want to see more of my content get subscribed, and make sure to
turn on the bell, oh and also there's another interesting video up here in the corner *points
