Arsenal welcomed Cardiff to the Emirates in the Bluebirds' first outing since the disappearance of new signing Emiliano Sala last week

The visitors created the better chances in the first half with Arsenal failing to register a shot on target

Bobby Reid went closest for Cardiff but was not able to keep his effort on goal. Mesut Ozil made his first Premier League appearance since the Boxing Day draw at Brighton and captained the Gunners

But Bruce-Ball says the German was one of a number of players passing up a shooting opportunity in the first half

"I think there's been in the last 10 minutes of that [first] half two times where players, Ozil was one of them, about 20-25 yards out," Bruce-Ball said on Radio 5 Live

"Okay it's a little bit speculative from there but we've not seen one effort on goal from that distance

"They're always looking to thread that little ball through, play that interchange

"A little one-two at the end there between [Alexandre] Lacazette and [Matteo] Guendouzi and again Guendouzi just couldn't get the ball in the right position

"His first touch let him down, had the first touch been better I think he would have been able to get his shot away

"But it just seems that we're back to those bad old days almost of trying to create the perfect goal, rather than sometimes just having an effort on goal, seeing if you get the rebound or loose ball

"I know you don't always want to do that, but maybe mix it up a bit." Arsenal were much improved after the break with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opening the scoring from the penalty spot

Alexandre Lacazette doubled his side's advantage with a fine finish inside the final 10 minutes

Arsenal went on to win the game 2-1, going level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea, with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing pulling back a late consolation for Cardiff

Chelsea face a trip to Bournemouth on Wednesday in their game in hand.

Man City News - Barcelona transfer news: Frenkie de Jong WANTED Man City before Nou Camp deal - exp - Duration: 2:43.

That's according to Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan. De Jong moved to Barcelona for a fee of 74

5m on a five-year-deal. The 21-year-old will move to Spain this summer following months of intense speculation surrounding his future

As a highly-rated young prospect, De Jong's been linked with the likes of City and French champions PSG as well

Since the move, De Jong has revealed that he was in contact with Pep Guardiola over a possible to Manchester

And Van der Kraan has told Sky Sports Transfer News Podcast, that De Jong was keen on the move, having been granted permission by Ajax to speak to Guardiola

"De Jong had made his mind up at an early stage," he said. "He wanted to go to one club which was Manchester City because they had a manager who he always believed in and who he thinks is one of the best in the world

"Ronald Koeman recommended the player to Guardiola. "He said 'If you want a great midfielder who can help your team to do the tiki-taka and build it up from the back this is your man'

"De Jong had a meeting with Guardiola but at that stage it was a bit far away." Van Der Kraan also spoke about De Jong's contact with PSG, who were also after the young Dutchman's signature

The De Telegraph journalist also mentioned City's FFP issues as a possible reason the transfer didn't go through

"Ajax always gave him permission in the winter time to speak to a few managers including PSG's Thomas Tuchel," he added

"But if Man City had not been bothered by their own internal issues - and I'm looking at Financial Fair Play - he would've gone there

" Barcelona see De Jong as a long term replacement for the likes of La Masia legends Xavi and Andres Iniesta, who are both no longer with Barca
