christine is the general coordinator of Tamara's Lighthouse an association wich fighting for
develop tourism through culture we decided to follow her on kassa island
where she tries in her way to value this beautiful country and its inhabitants with a big heart
far from clichés and insalubrity
we are about to leave the port of Boulbinet
in canoe to discover this other Conakry
we are at the port of Boulbinet There are at least five islands that are the
there is Fotoba, Tamara, Kassa, Soro, Room, Mango,
these islands are the pride of Conakry very little publicized they are unknown
for a lot of Guineans
the thirty minutes of travel are rocked by local musicians
who teach us the hymn of the islands fotoba
they have a very important place in culture
they sing to celebrate with the bolon and gongoma
we discover in the distance some islands that each have their singularity
to finally reach the mango village, a village know for his mangoes
he islands are a small break compared to the city life of conakry
you just take a boat and you find yourself in a little paradise
we start to quickly perceive the banks
it is in a peaceful climate that one discover a wealth of nature and
greenery here the inhabitants live mainly
from fishing everyone knows each other and families
helps eachother a lot were are a very well received. Christine is
very involved in the village life and the inhabitants are grateful to him
she takes us through this little island he knows as his pocket
so you see Aicha we're still in Guinea
we are still in guinea we are still in conakry
it's the little paradise here we come to the mango village on the
kassa island which is a village of fishermen where you can hear again
English because you will meet a lot of Ghanaian and sierra leonean fishermens
the villagers live from the
fishing and fruits behind this village you will see a paradisiac beach
for the moment we are doing cookout dance music sport
we planned to implement an ecotourism camp with cultural craft
we always have the concern to involve people from the village in
developping what may be on this the island and on these beach
the island being very poor Christine wish to open a school in the village
because children that go to school have to walk six kilometers every
days to get to the nearest school
she also wants to set up a care center because to consult a
emergency doctor you have to go to conakry by boat
it's long and expensive so it's by working on the beach with camp
that she hopes to attract more people
it is yes "we will cross your village"
"to go to the beach to try to invent something that
will develop an activity to bring people" but by crossing your village we will not
stay there and do nothing. So the first project is already ready we will clean
all together to sort the waste and that it stays pretty
the manpower and materials will be local and they participate in the economy of
the island and its inhabitants while respecting the environment
after a few minutes of walking in the rice fields on the other side of the island
we begins to hear the sound of the waves everything is very wild
no home in the surroundings we leave finally the grass to walk on the
sand of a postcard beach
Christine is well aware that the authentic paradises like that beach
are now rare she continues to believe in her
island development project
meanwhile she organizes fishing stays when she receives every year at
it's the regulars in search of simplicity and sharing each one participates in the life of the
town for example they can join
the activity of cleaning the beach or prefer to relax it is as they want
in the evening if the cath of the day was
abundant they visit neighboring villages
to distribute some of fish it's the children who firstly welcome us and the
canoe then they call they're parents so that everyone can come to
get back a share with the calm and respect for
the others during the next fishing session this is the
following village which will be entitled to a visit
always in a spirit of equality while they does that we will dance and make some noise
now it is the time for the celebration the musicians are there to lead the dance
part of the night
for thirty years I've had the chance to to travel as an airplane hostess
I saw the whole world and finally since a decade
it is in Guinea that I put my bag and that my heart remained hooked in
guinea is something else like africa for those who values
relationships those values are forgotten in the West
to say hello to his neighbor when we leave his house
the welcoming and especially it's authenticity
Guinea alone represents all the African continent
these four regions with their own vegetation climates and culture
represent the African continent
you takea single plane ticket to Guinea and it's like
you were touring all over Africa
