Hello everyone, today I'd like to share with you an awesome discovery of these last months:
the latest Minecraft version: 1.13 Update Aquatic.
Before we start, please know that this video will be divided in 2 parts
and each part will be divided in many chapters
Here they are:
Furthermore, there is a non-referenced vidéo
which lists comically all newly added sounds, particles and tags
which could help those mapmakers among you.
So, you're currently watching the first part focused on the aquatic side of this update
which is the one which will be interesting to most of you.
The second part will be focused on technical changes.
Well

Some History...
It is in the blessed year of 2017,
year marked by a new unusual United States President,
and by the unexplainable success of Hand Spinners,
that Mojang announces the latest update for the second most sold game in the world:
Minecraft.
"Apart from absurd and long periphrasis SyraniiX what do you have to say about this?"
is possibly a question going through your mind currrently.
And I will answer: "Nothing."
because these first references to 1.13, which came fast after 1.12,
did not announce a revolution for most of the normal players.
Dinnerbone was the first one to talk about it:
April 24th 2017.
He says it straight away, 1.13 will be a Technical Update.
And that is why I said:

seconds ago.
A Technical Update is not a super news for the players waiting for a ton of new blocks,
monsters and also just various random features!
However, Dinnerbone, head of the 1.13 project (at the time) will still take this way.
And that's where confusion comes.
We were more hyped by 1.14 with its unannounced features
than by the 1.13 which looked more like a "filling the gap" Update.
Let's talk about it:
1.13, as announced at the time,
was way too underestimated!
It was about deleting the block number limit,
having DataPacks making it so easier for map-makers,
or a rewriting of the command system super cool, ergonomic, colorful!
Said things were limiting Minecraft at an unimaginably absurd rate and obviously useless!
For example, since 1.12 came out,
Mojang could not add any more blocks to the game!
I know I tend to use this example quite often,
but it pictures just right how important an Update like this would be.
Then came Minecon Earth
which changed everything.
It is at the End of this annual Minecraft Livestream
that Jeb announces the theme of the formerly named "1.14",
that hyped us to this day:
The Aquatic Update.
Days go by, with a Technical 1.13 that many would like to skip, laying several snapshots,
and a 1.14 exciting for crowds but not avaiable for testing yet.
But it is in the year 2018,
marked by absolute disrespect on YouTube and a car sent in solar orbit,
things are happening on our poor planet...
that 1.13 and 1.14 were not different updates anymore.
On Minecraft.net this article was posted,
announcing the merge of the two updates, allowing the devs to work faster on the Aquatic Update,
by pushing Technical features for later.
And then, finally, here we are. It comes out.
1.13, Aquatic Update...
And... Wow...
It's nuts.
63... 64!
Wow, they've done good work!
Well, obviously, it's theoretical.
But at least, it's not about color variations, like in 1.12...
Haha, 1.12...

Anyway, I think it's time to talk about it,
what are these new blocks?
Well, in 1.13 were added a good bunch of new blocks.
64!
And, first, let's get to plants and other vegetation under water.
We have the Aquatic Herbs, or "Sea Grass"
with a super cool animation!
Only obtainable with Shears
and are generated in oceans, swamps and rivers.
And their big sister, the Tall Sea Grass, do as well.
It's the Under Water equivalent for Tall Grass.
To get them, a Bone Meal on an ordinary Sea Grass block is what it takes if there's space for it to grow in.
Besides, making them grow with a single water block on top gives off this effect,
that could be interesting in terms of decoration.
However, cutting them with Shears will only get you two small Sea Grass.
Talking about Bone Meal, you can now use it under water in order to generate Sea Grass!
Knowing that these can grow on transmarent blocks we get a good grab on that!
Let's continue with the following block:
"Kelp", or "Varech" for us frenchies.
No worries, because even if in real life kelp is absolutely ugly,
in Minecraft it looks like this, which is quite pretty.
Kelp, let us frenchies call it in the game language, simpler,
is a vertical plant following the same growing pattern as Sugar Cane for example.
It has two separated parts, the stem, and the top, each is animated.
The interesting one for us about this plant, is the top.
Once it is placed or naturally generated,
it gets a random age between 0 and 21,
that number will also grow randomly, helped by the RandomTick.
- Just like any other plant, in fact...
- Correct! And once this age reaches 25 the top turns into a stem,
and will generate another "top" on top of it.
This will go on until the plant reaches the top of the water.
- It just grows normally...
- Y... Yeah, that's it..
But that's not it!
- Ah!
It is in fact poossible to break Kelp, and just like Sugar Cane,
break all of the stems to the top with onee punch!
Each broken block will drop a Kelp item, which can be used to replace said plant.
But it can also be cooked.

Heyo guys, heyo gals!
Be welcome in the Happy Kelp,
the best (and only) restaurant in the isle!
Today I show ya the recipe for a typical meal,
cooked seaweed!
It's not hard, c'mon, just put ya freshly collected kelp in your furnace,
and ya get ya dried kelp!
If that's not wonderful!
Ya'll love it!
Anyway.
This Dried Kelp will grant 0.35 EXP upon cooking,
0.5 Food Bar points, and 0.3 points for saturation when eaten.
Yes, it's accurate.
It's eaten faster than other meals, but for half a food, it's probably not worth it.
But it's not the only use for it!
You can also craft it into a block:
if you put 9 of it in a Crafting Table,
you will get a Kelp Block in result,
and the block resembles this:
Meh.
The main probleem is that the string is not centered.
given that the texture width is even (16 pixels).
But anyway, there are other things going on with this block.
In fact, it's a Wheat Block lookalike,
because it makes the same sound, and burns just as well.
However, the Kelp block traded the capacity from the Wheat Block to contain fall damage
in order to cook 20 items in an oven.
Which could, in my opinion, be very useful.
Next comes a block we've been waiting for.
Very pretty, with a lot of variations.
Well, a good block.
Corals.
It comes in 5 different shapes and colors,
with, in the Creative Inventory order,
Each of them has its own color,
but can also be turned into gray.
Coral Blocks effectively need to have at least one side touching water,
not rain, to stay alive.
If they don't, they die.
- And when it dies, it turns gray.
Obviously.
- Right! And furthermore, dead coral is dead forever,
there's no way to make it revive.
You will have to be relatively careful if you wish to use it for decoration.
We can get these Coral Blocks alive, with a Silk Touch pickaxe.
Without the enchantment, you will collect Dead Coral.
- Don't you forget something?
- I was coming to it, let me talk!
The depths of the oceans will effectively have a third type of coral.
This block is quite remarkable. I even think it's the only one to behave this way.
It looks like an under water Sea Grass,
but you can place it on the side of blocks.
- And to get them, nothing's simpler, just give them a knock!
Like, all plants in the game, in fact...
- And we're not done yet!
There's a fourth and last type of coral,
just like Coral Fans, simply named, "Coral".
It has a similar texture to Dead Bushes,
and just like Coral Fans, can be gathered by punching it.
- I think we're done here!
- In that case, let's keep going!
So here is something quite odd,
the Sea Pickle.
Not to mistake for "Sea Cucumber, like a.. Syra..niiX?
Garbage name,
did in this video.
Anyway, this Pickle is a new plant,
that has a good amount of features quite interesting.
- It makes light!
- Shh, shh, we'll get to it.
Right.
When placed under water, a white filament is visible on its top.
But when placed in air, it is not there.
It is under water that it fins its purpose, that is, emitting light,
but, we'll get to it.
- Whaaa
BUT just as interesting, is its ability to be placed several times on the same block,
you can, in fact, if you want to, put up to 4.
Even more interesting: the more Pickles there are on a single block,
the more light is emitted!
Going from light level 6 to light level 15,
by steps of 3 light levels each.
Complicated? Here's a diagram:

Contrary to what we could believe, this feature is extremely useful,
because light now shades off under water the same way it does on land.
Look, under water, for each block of length,
the light level lost 3 points, now it's only 1.
In order to get more of these pickles, a Bone Meal is enough,
however the targetted pickle has to be put on a Coral Block
under water, like that.
Here's a bonus, once cooked, the said chenopodiaceae,
calm down, it's just a synonym,
will give out Lime Dye!
That's all we have about it...
Oh yeah, I have to show you something!
- Sheesh, I knew he could not hold himself...
- No, you'll see, it's quite cool,
we said it before, 1.13 removes the very embarrrassing block limit
so Mojang did something very nice:
slabs and stairs of many types of blocks.
So, let's be clear here, no need to be worried,
Dinnerbone stated that most of the new slabs and stairs
will be in 1.14!
But the devs still did good while providing us with Prismarine, Prismarine Bricks and Dark Prismarine!

Lastly, for what concerns aquatic blocks,
I would have loved to talk about Conduit.
But, it requires to know some things about 1.13,
and that's why I will talk about it at the end of the video,
or more precisely at this time-code for those who are interested.
But I can already tell you it's one of the best news of the version.
Now let's talk about the 17w47 snapshot.
It's one of the biggest, as it added almost 33 new blocks in the game.
For the newbies, a snapshot is a test version of Minecraft,
when developping Mojang releases one per week, sometimes more.
So, as I said, 17w47 added almost 33 new blocks.
And even if I count the variations here,
it still remains very interesting.
Let's begin with the trapdoors for every type of wood.
There is obviously no difference with the basic one,
but it can be useful for decoration.
Spruce trapdoors, for example, can make for pretty good barrels.
- And Dark Oak is good for chocolate!
But Mojang did not stop there,
they also added pressure plates and buttons for every type of wood.
Again, no difference with the originals.
However, they are interesting for decoration,
even more knowing that buttons can now be placed in every direction.
That is very tiring...
But well.

Because we already had normal Ice and Packed Ice,
so for a third one to come say hello seems a lot.

because even if it was nerfed during the snapshots, it is way more slippery than the two others.
If we count right, a 6 blocks slip on ordinary ice
or Packed, in 1.12,
will turn into an 8 block slip in 1.13.

so I imagine everyone will get to it and change their Nether tunnels.
Furthermore, this Ice has a decent Blast resistance.
It's not that surprising, given thaat it is crafted out of 9 Packed Ice blocks.
In the same logic, we can only mine it with Silk Touch.
But do not worry, there's a way not to destroy your Ice Pikes biomes to get Blue Ice,
because besides a new biome that I'll talk about later in the video,
Packed Ice is now craftable out of 9 Ordinary Ice Blocks.
Yes, it makes it very heavy in cost, but it makes it renewable, which is not nothing.
And to finish off of it, we can add that on Bedrock Edition,
it emits a little light.
We don't know if it will come on Java Edition as well.
And we finally finished it with the first sub-chapter of the first chapter of the video!

Let's talk about Block changes.
And god knows that with that Block ID change, there has been changes.
Let's straight away begin with Air blocks.

Technically it really is a block,
And in 1.13, this block has variations.
- That's right! There are now 3 variations, normal air, obviously,
but also Cave Air, for caves, that generates, you guessed it...
