After various musicals, like 'Sprookjesboom'
And other fairytale musicals.
we put our heads together to decide
what our next step would be for our theatre productions.
We now have het Loonsche Land, Bosrijk,
the Efteling Hotel, and we have a lot of international guests
we really found it a big loss that these guests
can't come to our fairytale musicals
because of the Dutch language.
that is why we really wanted to launch an international show
which is completely language-free and
therefore understandable for everyone.
98 percent of the Dutch population has been to the Efteling at least once.
and the average is even 7 times.
When you take a look at what moments in your life you visit the Efteling.
You see that your first time in your life, you go to the Efteling as a young child,
then, you go on a school trip,
and of course you go as a teenager,
And if you are blessed with children later on in your life,
you go to the Efteling as parents, as a mom or a dad.
And then comes the time of being a grandparent.
And we also see a lot of those in the Efteling
with their grandchildren, because they want their grandchildren to have
the same experience they have had for so many years already.
CARO is an abbreviation of carrousel
and that carroussel has a very special
and prominent place and role in the history of the Efteling."
"I remember when we were about five years old,
me and my brother went to the local fair and
we visited the famous steam carousel from the family Janvier.
It was an amazing experience for us.
That was back in 1900.
I never thought that the same carousel
would later become an absolute favorite of mine
and that I would lead the restauration
because it is now to be found in the Efteling.
Carousel stands for experience.
leisure,
fun,
and of course the Efteling
But carousel is also worldwide known as
the carousel of life.
That is why we took the literal carousel on one side,
and on the other side the story about the carousel of life,
If you combine these two things we think
that for both our national and international guest
there is something that touches us all.
Something we all understand and recognize.
And so that together:
the carousel,
The Efteling, for more than 66 years now,
and the moments in your life.
That's when we thought: we can build on this.
We have put together a fantastic creative team.
We truly have the best of the best
That created the story with us.
Then we asked Stanley:
'Well, could you be the one to direct this, because we need someone
with the experience in these kinds of productions.'
And Stanley really has that.
During the creative proces and the first meetings, I already knew
that there would we little to no text at all
to make sure we could make a show
that is for all nationalities.
And whether you are from England, France, Germany, Italy:
When you sit down it must be understandable for all.
You can, if you want, tell a really clear story without a single line of text.
But you must coordinate the
Dancers and acrobats really well.
It is not that the dancers themselves will tell the story,
but it's the combination of them together with the backdrop.
That is the way we can really clearly
tell we are going from a to b and from b to c,
and this way, tell a someone's life story.
If you are working with dialogue, you only need two sentences to tell:
'Hey I'm going outside and do some groceries.'
But if you don't have that,
you must get really creative to make that point.
The main theme of CARO is a waltz.
The most important instrument is the barrel organ. 81 00:03:49,380 --> 00:03:51,560 We found a museum gevonden in Haarlem (the Netherlands).
It's a street organ museum that has an almost exact replica,
of the barrel organ we have in the Efteling.
Wij horen orkestmuziek,
maar gaandeweg komen daar draaiorgel klanken bij.
Ik vind het heel spannend om straks
Franse, Duitse, Engelse gasten
bij ons in het theater te hebben die
misschien voor het eerst in de Efteling zijn
misschien al vaker in de Efteling zijn geweest
en die we dit extra
extraatje mee kunnen geven tijdens hun verblijf hier.
