Evening Choombas! Welcome to the MadQueen show!

Today we're going to learn how the United States became part of the third world

Today we're going to talk about the fall of America

It all started as a covert coup in 1989

A group made up of the CIA, NSC, FBI and DEA formed a secret government to run America

behind the president's back

They are known as the Gang of Four

The aim of the Gang of Four was to recover the glory of the American economy, although

their methods were quite disastrous: they isolated the country from external alliances

and when in 1992 the Euromarket was established to balance worldwide economies and the Eurodollar

was adopted as the common currency, America stayed out

By 1993, the Gang of Four had covertly manipulated the American people for over decades, thanks

to the power of the different agencies forming it

As violent terrorist actions became more common, it was apparent the Gang of Four were totally

inefficient or they really didn't care what happened to the people on the street level

This unwillingness to protect the populace while spending billions on international vendettas

led many in the Media, as well as the Government, to search for answers

The crisis that would become the first link to the destruction of the Gang of Four was

the discovery of the "Quiet War" on the European Economic Community

Threatened by the growing power of the Europeans, the Gang of Four began to embark on a suicidal

course of covert aggression, that later would be known as the "Quiet War"

As Europe power grew, the interference of the States was less tolerated, and soon the

European Economic Community was the world power and America was playing second fiddle

Infuriated by this lack of prestige, and also fearful that the space program of the Euros

would also give them military superiority, and in an attempt to appear solvent, the Gang

of Four tried to undermine the European Economic Community structure, using tactics ranging

from stock market fraud to interference in international policies and treaties, and began

manipulating the stock markets of Europe and Asia by hacking directly into the systems

This artificial currency and stock manipulation allowed the Gang to promote an illusion of

American wealth, but once it was discovered by the Europeans, everyone found out

With the implied security of the exchange rate undermined, the system collapsed, in

a disaster that would be called the Crash of the '94

In reaction to the discovery of this fraud, the majority of developed countries immediately

instituted embargoes on United States trade

These embargoes were crippling to America, and it only served to hasten the Collapse

and make the States a third world country

Unstoppable power

The second reason for the Collapse was the destruction

of the South America Drug trade and, with

it, the destruction of local economies as well

The governments of the drug producing countries turned their eyes to Europe, desperate to

save their citizens, and Europe provided weapons, food, vehicles, and advisors

The result was that money and manpower desperately needed to rebuild American was siphoned off

to a drug war America couldn't win

The third and final cause of the Collapse was environmental

As the biomes of Earth were despoiled by Corporate greed, who's surprised of that?

and shortsighted policies, who's surprised of that either?

acid rain and changing climates began to make it harder

to grow crops, keep the soil fertile and irrigate effectively

So, in 1994, thanks to the manipulations and the ineptitude of the American Government,

the World Stock Exchange finally collapsed

Human civilization was changed forever

Both the World Bank and the World Stock Exchange were gone

The United States Government had no one to borrow money from

Federal bonds were cashed at a rate so high

that the Government could barely print money fast enough

This devaluated the dollar and accelerated the process

Millions of Americans lost their pensions and investments

Their homes

They became homeless and many died from exposure or violence

obviously, Americans weren't happy and started to revolt

The Government tried to contain it, but the unrest was not limited to "less fortunate"

areas and neighborhoods, and could not be isolated

As a response to the upheavals, the Government declared Martial Law on August 1996

Life in America during martial law was one of the bloodiest periods in human history

Stalin's purges pale by comparison

Over 100 million Americans died during this period, from violence or starvation

With the President and Vice President killed this same month, the remains of the Congress

tried to put a solution to the crisis, but their egos were so swollen it was impossible

to form a coalition

And, still, one of the greater problems was the Gang of Four

By 1997, it was painfully apparent, in Washington at least, that the Gang of Four had been acting

on its own for some time, but President Seward didn't have the balls to combat them as

to do so he would need the army that now was busy trying to keep rioting and looting from

tearing the nation apart, but he was not completely stupid and by instituting the Federal Weapons

Statue, that allows weaponry to be carried openly "for protection of self and property"

he managed to cut rioting a 30%

This new statue is also the reason why you can see so many people wearing weapons openly

in Night City

As the end of the Gang of Four became evident, some command structure of the FBI and CIA

switched sides to help the government eliminate the NSA

This led to a reformation of the surviving agencies: the DEA, CIA, and FBI merged, creating

the National Law Enforcement Division

after the country returned to civilian government in 2004

During the massive confusions in the embattled capital, many of the Free States took the

opportunity to succeed, so California could untie his government from the United States

and create the Free States of California

With the Gang of Four out of sight the covert war against Europe also disappeared, and so

did the reasons to avoid the Eurodollar, so America adopted this currency at last

With the economy devastated, the governments of the world had no other choice than turning

their heads to corporations, the only power structures that survived, or even expanded,

during the collapse, to rebuild world economies

But this is a story that we will talk about some other day:

how the megacorporations became

the power structures of the world of Cyberpunk 2077

IARI Faculty Research Fellows: Keith Van de Riet - Duration: 4:47.

So if we really want to jumpstart ecosystems

we have to understand

the specific habitats hierarchies that they rely on

We can sort of balance these things

or leverage them with each other

to find a unique intersection of

technology and human thinking

to produce very complex forms that relate to the natural environment.

A lot of my work's examining this issue of the built environment

as it relates to the natural environment

and are there ways that we can build

architectural assemblies that transform the environment

and increase diversity rather than decrease it.

The mangrove ecosystem in South Florida,

it's composed of three mangrove species

and the most kind of characteristic

or recognizable one is the red mangrove

and the red mangrove has these

aerial prop roots that sort of arch out

and they buttress the tree

as it stands in the water

but while they're standing in the water like that

they're actually creating incredible fish habitat

but they also create the surface area

just through the roots that drop down into the water

where you get oysters, barnacles,

and all kinds of things growing on this

and those actually create more habitat

and then there's more food sources and so these things

just continue to diversify

and improve the environment through that process

and once we've started to develop shorelines

we've completely collapsed what

in some cases might be multiple kilometers deep

of a transition from water to land

into a single surface which

principally is a sea wall

so we recognized this opportunity with the sea wall

where we had this blank canvas

that was just sitting there

and what was really kind of

almost comical to me was that

nobody had thought of doing this before.

So what we're trying to do is mimic some of those

geometries or formal characteristics

and then ultimately same of the material properties

of the mangrove, the oysters, and the shellfish that live on them.

You know these forms have a level of complexity

that's very difficult to model either by hand

or in the computer

and so what I found is

by using both techniques

that I can actually accommodate

a very complex form

in a very measurable way of creating it

and ultimately we could prototype these things

we could build little mock-ups

and look at them and understand how

these things could actually occupy that zone

and just though that process we create

hopefully recognizable environments to the native species

to reproduce, to hide, take shelter, or to feed

and we're now testing that to see how effective

we can actually be within that narrow narrow band.

There's a biologist I'm working with who actually

dives and documents the walls

and it's also through that feedback

between these different fields, the interdisciplinarity of the work,

that I've learned a lot as an architect

about designing for these environments.

Well when we talk about biodiversity in the built environment

we could talk about multiple scales of what that means.

So for example at the scale of the sea wall,

we were looking at this edge condition that

wraps most of South Florida's waterways.

In the case in this project over at Spooner Hall

where we're renovating Weaver Courtyards

we're talking about networks across space

we're looking at how different pollinator gardens

can contribute to each other

to create a stronger habitat matrix

and so with the students we've been looking at

how do we adapt these ideas of biodiversity

and the built environment into Lawrence, Kansas

but specifically this courtyard project.

there was a lot of synergy actually with

the project that I was working on with the students

as well as the exhibit that opened at Spencer Museum

which was the big botany exhibit

and so I saw this opportunity to approach

the integrated arts research initiative

in a way that it sort of put a spotlight on this project

as it connected to these other initiatives.

Within architecture

the amount of design making and research

tends to sort of balance out

and so there's always kind of the creative dimension

and a lot of that entails collaboration,

making, thinking, and kind of iterative process.

It's very challenging sometimes to find support for that type of thing

even at the university level

where interdisciplinary thinking is very highly valued

it still hasn't completely dissolved

the kind of boundaries that we've created among disciplines

and so I saw the IARI as a unique space

to work within and get a bit of spotlight on

what I value very highly in my work.

BALI | Monos ladrones en los templos de Bali | Indonesia | VagaJuntos en Asia #38 - Duration: 11:05.

We have arrived to the southern hemisphere.

For those of you that live in the southern hemisphere, this is probably not that spectacular.

But for us it is, because it is the first time in our lives that we cross the equator.

So...

Where are we exactly?

Guys, we are in Indonesia. More specifically in Bali.

And since its so popular amongst travelers here to rent a house, room or apartment,

we have done the same.

We paid 84 euros for the 7 days that we will be here.

So check out this place where we'll stay at for the next days.

This is our room.

Our huge bed.

Pretty comfortable.

Look here.

New VagaJuntos video.

Exporting.

It's about our last destination in Thailand.

Railay, in case you haven't seen it yet.

Here we have the rest of the room.

A desk.

A fridge.

The television that only has local channels so we don't understand anything.

The closet.

Mónica has already unpacked

because she'll stay and live here.

And here we have the bathroom.

The bathroom is really spacious.

The shower.

And that's me.

To end our tour of this guesthouse, because yes, this is a guesthouse,

we are now on the roof.

Where we have some chairs and some tables.

And...

And, and...the most important part.

Another incredible view.

Over there you can see

the sea.

I don't know if you see it.

We do!

This doesn't look exactly like what we saw in the photos

but it's pretty spacious, pretty good.

And we have a view

that's really pretty.

With all those rooftops of the same color and the green trees...

I like it!

And above all, the blue sky.

It's time to head out.

We aren't going to do a lot today.

We aren't going to explore yet.

Because yesterday we traveled the whole day from the Philippines to Bali.

We had to change flights in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

So we spend the whole day in airplanes and airports.

So today we'll take it easy.

And tomorrow the adventure in Bali starts.

So see you tomorrow.

Second day here in Bali.

We are ready to explore the island.

As you can see, we already have our scooter.

It costs 250.000 rupiah (for 6 days).

That's basically 2,50 euros per day.

So this scooter gets the prize for cheapest scooter we have had in Asia so far.

Let's go.

After one and a half hours, we have arrived at our first stop of the day.

It's the Uluwatu Temple that you can see over there.

On top of that cliff.

The official name of this place is Pura Uluwatu.

This literally means 'temple on the edge of a rock'.

Because pura means temple.

Ulu means edge.

And watu means rock.

You can see that the temple is located on the edge of a cliff.

So its name obviously comes from its location.

This temple is known for its thousands of monkeys that live in these trees.

And something that you must know is to be really careful while roaming around this place.

Because for some reason, these monkeys have learned a behavior that is pretty...

peculiar.

They steals the things you have with you.

Glasses, hats, cellphones...

Anything.

We just witnessed the theft of the year.

A guy that tried to take a selfie with a monkey.

I think he managed to take it.

But the monkey stole his cap.

There are guards here that have food with them.

If you give them food, they give your stuff back.

It's something really strange, but...

if you don't want to lose your belongings, than be aware.

Look, this monkey has stolen some glasses.

We were warned about this so we put our caps and other stuff in our backpacks.

But please don't do the same as those guys over there.

Giving them food and garbage and just leaving it on the ground without throwing it in a trash bin.

Please.

Darling, what do you have there?

Well, this is to cover me from the sun.

But also to scare away the monkeys.

Because they were about to attack you.

It's a shame that the camera was overexposed and that the image didn't came out fine.

Because it would have been really funny seeing you being attacked and running away.

What actually happened is that

we were observing the monkeys while they were bathing in the water,

because we are really hot and we also wanted to get in.

I had my cellphone in my hand, but alongside my body.

Suddenly I feel something pulling my hand, my cellphone.

It was a monkey.

Trying to steal my cellphone.

It fell on the ground and I managed to grab it.

But then the monkeys turned against me.

And I had to run away.

I think it's primarily the location of this temple that's impressive, here in top of this cliff.

And before we go...

This temple is one of the 7 sea temples here in Bali.

But we'll tell you more about that at our next destination.

We have arrived at the second temple that we will visit today.

This temple is called Tanah Lot.

This means, as you can see from its location,

'land in the sea'.

This place looks really cool.

It looks like we aren't allowed inside, only for praying and we are just here to visit.

And we won't find wild thief monkeys here.

But we will find snakes.

As the Uluwatu Temple,

the Tanah Lot Temple is also one of the 7 Balinese sea temples.

Each temple can be seen from the previous and the next one.

Forming a chain alongside the south-west shore of the island.

And if you come to this temple, we recommend coming in slippers.

Because, look...

I'm wearing sneakers, Kevin is wearing sneakers...

We'll have to take them of to cross over to the temple.

Just a small tip.

This is a temple dedicated to the Balinese gods.

And what Mónica was refering to...

Oh no, there is the water.

My feet are wet...

Second attempt.

I'm now standing on a rock.

Although it doesn't matter...

Third attempt, after the water in my shoes

and that massive photobombing of that girl.

So what I was trying to say

is that there is a believe that underneath the rock there are venomous snakes

that protect the temple against intruders and bad spirits.

There you have it, I said it, finally!

Since my feet are already wet.

I'll just make them even wetter.

We are walking towards the temple.

With our legs in the water.

They were already wet anyway.

We are here, underneath the rock.

And I don't see any venomous snakes.

So that was probably just a legend.

It's really hot so this is just perfect.

Now we just have to wait a bit for the tide to lower before we go back.

So that I don't get completely soaked.

Because I don't want to get as wet as Kevin already is right now.

Guys, these have been our two first days here in Bali

and we have already seen that we are going to love this island.

So we will keep exploring it

and we will make more videos about Bali.

Now we go to our next destination here on the island of Bali.

If you want to know which one it is, don't miss the next video of VagaJuntos.
