MANCHESTER United will not sack Jose Mourinho and remain convinced he is the right man for
the job.
Mourinho is facing his biggest crisis since taking charge at Old Trafford in the wake
of United's shambolic start to the season.
United's crushing 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham on Monday night, made it two losses
from their first three games to see them slump to 13th in the Premier League table.
The last time that happened was back in 1992, and Mourinho is showing signs of cracking
under the strain of turning United into title contenders once again.
Speculation has mounted that Mourinho's position is under threat, and a third straight
defeat at Burnley this weekend would be unthinkable.
But senior figures at Old Trafford have confirmed that Mourinho still has the full backing of
the board, and club's American owners the Glazers.
Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward appreciates most of United's fans remain right behind
Mourinho - and that sacking him would leave them with few options when it comes to finding
the right replacement.
Despite having a difficult relationship with Mourinho, Woodward is convinced the Portuguese
can turn things round, and is willing to give him the time he needs to improve results.
United bosses are now hoping Mourinho can orchestrate a winning streak, and take some
confidence into the Champions League campaign, which starts next month.
One of Mourinho's priorities will be to get the best out of midfield misfit Paul Pogba,
who admits he has been left baffled by the defeat to Spurs.
Pogba has revealed the result left the United dressing room in shock, saying: "Even we
don't understand what happened.
We started the game really well, but we conceded two goals in the second half.
"The first goal was a real blow, we didn't understand why, because we had the game in
hand.
One goal, two…
We kept pushing, we had chances, and then we conceded the third.
"The fans kept pushing us, they were really behind us.
We feel really sorry for them, very disappointed, because we wanted to do better.
"I think it was an undeserved defeat for us.
In our desire, in everything we put into it.
"But football can be cruel.
We just have to bounce back.
It won't be easy, but it's just the start of the season.
I prefer to start badly and end well than start well and finish badly.
"It's bizarre.
We were determined and we started well, and in the end we lost 3-0.
It's a shock.
"We have to keep going, we mustn't worry.
We must work.
We are still Manchester United - and we won't give up on anything."
