Real Madrid are facing a problem with Mateo Kovacic, with the midfielder insistent on
leaving Los Blancos amid interest from the likes of Manchester City.
Madrid view Kovacic, 24, as an important player for the present and future, but a lack of
guaranteed minutes, with countryman Luka Modric standing in his way, mean he continues to
push for a move away.
And according to Madrid-based AS, Manchester City are one of the clubs to have asked about
him this summer, along with Bayern Munich and Roma.
Kovacic was a name briefed to the press during the Jorginho saga as an alternative target,
with Mario Lemina of Southampton, but since Jorginho joined Chelsea, neither of them have
arrived at the Etihad Stadium.
In Kovacic's case, Real Madrid have declared him non-transferable, and have turned away
the likes of Manchester City by saying the Croatian is not available at any cost.
The Spanish giants believe that there is no player of his quality on the market at a reasonable
price, and for that reason they want to keep him at all costs.
But still Kovacic is pushing for a transfer, knowing the likes of Manchester City and Bayern
Munich are hovering and could make a move if given encouragement.
The days are counting down before the English transfer window closes, and unless Real Madrid
budge, Mateo Kovacic seems an unlikely recruit for Pep Guardiola.
But if they do, it isn't out of the question that City could make a late swoop for the
gifted Croatian in the coming days…
