share compassion, but just be kind.

And I don't mean be kind in school, just be kind, period.

Breaking News - The Manchester United stars in danger of falling out with Mourinho - Duration: 7:41.

It was startling, and quite frankly fascinating, to see footage of the tense to and fro between Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba before training at Manchester United on Wednesday

Not only because such glimpses behind the gilded veil that hangs around modern-day football are rare, but because these are two pre-eminent practitioners in an multi-billion pound industry and they were squabbling like the rest of us do

Mourinho was the instigator, of course, and his motives for picking the fight in front of Sky's cameras can be traced to his crusade to court United's fans

Pointing out Pogba's ill-timed Instagram post – whatever the Old Trafford WiFi issues – has added to the sense among supporters that the Frenchman's priorities need recalibrating

It has emerged there was another reason for the public admonishment, though. Rather than pull Pogba privately Mourinho did it in front of the squad to, in all likelihood, deliver an indirect message to other players on the road to rebellion

Sportsmail has reported how the United manager is battling to quell growing resistance to his methods but rather than bend, Mourinho has doubled down

Instead of softening his hard approach he has gone deeper into the dogmatic. Here are the players he is trying to get in line

Sir Alex Ferguson described his relationship with Mino Raiola as like oil and water and it now appears the same can be said about Mourinho and Pogba

One is a pragmatist with fierce focus on winning, the other an idealist with emojis for earrings

Having won the World Cup with France, Pogba was irritated by the way Mourinho responded, by congratulating and cajoling in equal measure

The midfielder felt a lack of support from his manager after a brilliant personal summer

The manager perceived a deficit of commitment from his player, who asked Ed Woodward for a transfer to Barcelona before the season started

Mourinho gave Pogba the armband as a final motivation but he could never accept being publicly undermined and stripping the 25-year-old of any future captaincy is the boldest move yet of the power struggle at the heart of the club

Were Mourinho the definitive decision-maker on transfers, the winger could easily have left United by now

The 22-year-old does not fit naturally into the Mourinho mould and left to his own devices the manager would probably have sanctioned a proposed move to Sevilla

Woodward is conscious of the larger picture though and views Martial as a valuable, exciting talent

Martial has had his moments, notably at the start of last season as an impact substitute, but they are becoming less frequent

Whether that is down to Mourinho's influence or his own modest application is difficult to pinpoint

He is good friends with Pogba and fell out publicly with Mourinho after leaving the club's US tour to attend the birth of his child

Both French players are aware of the background noise linking Zinedine Zidane to the United job

In May, Mourinho gave the most curious of responses when asked why Bailly had been dropped

The United manager said he wanted to give more time to centre-backs heading for the World Cup, which was did not exactly correlate to previous gripes about his players being involved in international competition

Helping Phil Jones win an England call-up certainly didn't strike as a genuine motivation

More likely, Mourinho was disappointed at Bailly's progress, having made such a stirring start to life at Old Trafford

The Senegal defender played just 13 Premier League games last season, with Mourinho disgruntled at various injuries, and he doesn't appear to be heading for improved numbers this term

He was dreadful against Brighton and deserving of criticism but Mourinho even made an unnecessary dig after the Derby defeat

Mourinho anticipated 'trouble' when Bailly and Jones stepped up in the shootout, even though Bailly didn't take one

He is another French speaker close to Pogba. The sheets of statistics produced recently by Mourinho in defence of his handling of Rashford may have contained merit – it is true the 20-year-old is a rare example of young academy graduate featuring regularly for a top six side – but there is more to it than that

The daring and adventure of Rashford's early United career has been lost a little somewhere along the way

He has grown unhappy at his involvement and deployment to accommodate Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez

That seems to have led him closer to Pogba, who offers a sense of enjoyment. Some staff believe that in turn means Rashford's attention to detail has dropped and it emerged Mourinho reprimanded the young striker for failing to finish a warm-down after he was substituted in the win over Young Boys in Bern

The left-back has always experienced a fractious relationship with Mourinho, who has scolded him publicly on numerous occasions

The claim by Mourinho that one good performance by Shaw was due to him being his brain on the touchline will not be forgotten

But it is a classic tactic of Mourinho to prod his players if he feels standards have dropped, in order to elicit a reaction

John Terry told of an occasion Mourinho said he would buy a £60million defender, no problem, if the then Chelsea defender failed to up his training efforts

Terry rose to such antagonism, and in fairness so has Shaw whose displays this season have been excellent

It was though noted that he was in the Instagram post by Pogba, giving a smile. That seemed innocent rather than defiant, however

United fans liked what they saw on the club's pre-season tour of America, where Pereira was given extensive minutes and responded with fine displays

He caught the eye against Leicester on opening night too and appeared set for a run in the side even with the expensive acquisition of Fred

But the 22-year-old has not started a Premier League game since being replaced at half-time against Brighton and his proximity to Pogba – he was sat next to the World Cup winner in the Instagram against Derby and a very active participant – will not do him favours with Mourinho

As reported by Sportsmail, his choice of new car – a white Bentley – has also not gone unnoticed

Liverpool news: Xherdan Shaqiri speaks out after clashing with Jurgen Klopp - Duration: 2:42.

 The Reds were knocked out of the Carabao Cup this week, losing 2-1 to Maurizio Sarri's side at Anfield

 Liverpool boss Klopp entered the pitch at full-time and spoke at length with Shaqiri, who came on as a substitute in the second-half

 But the former Stoke man insists he was only receiving instructions about a free-kick that was eventually taken by Jordan Henderson in the closing stages

 "He was not intense or shouting something," he told the Evening Standard.  "It was just a tactical thing, like something off the free-kick we should do better

 "In the end, Jordan took the free-kick and it was maybe not the best solution we did there

" The confrontation came after Klopp had substituted Shaqiri at half-time against Southampton on Saturday

 But the Swiss international also revealed the Liverpool boss explained his reasoning after the clash

 "He just gave the same reason he said to you: It was difficult for him to take me off but it was a tactical thing he wanted to change," Shaqiri added

 "He came to me straight away and said why. "I have a very good relationship with him so everything is okay

" Klopp backed up Shaqiri's side of the story in his pre-match press conference this morning

 "Very good. Very, very good," he told reporters when asked about the winger. "When he came in, that was what I wanted from him, to be completely free and just play football

 "I didn't want to fill him with information about the way he defends, I wanted him only to play football

 "German newspapers said I had an argument with Shaqiri on the pitch. "I didn't. It was only about that free-kick
