Man Utd news: Worrying transfer prediction made because of Paul Pogba's Jose Mourinho feud - Duration: 4:02.

That is the opinion of former Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason. United's season has been engulfed by off-field issues between Pogba and Mourinho with tensions leading to the Frenchman being stripped of his vice captaincy last week

That was after Pogba publicly criticised his manager's tactics to the media, while the two shared an icy exchange in training on Wednesday as caught by television cameras in the wake of United's Carabao Cup exit to Derby

The saga is even thought to be splitting the United camp with Eric Bailly, Andreas Pereira, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford thought to be those close to the midfielder

Mourinho has declared that Pogba has "trained really well" this week and will start against West Ham today but could not resist another sly dig in their ongoing war of words, declaring: "Manchester United is bigger than anyone

I have to defend that." But player-turned-pundit Mason told Sky Sports talkshow The Debate that the toxic atmosphere that clearly be seen at Old Trafford may impact their ability to bring in more big names in the future

"The situation is not reflecting well on Manchester United, for so long they've been one of the biggest and best clubs in England and at the moment the talking points are stuff like this," ex-Spurs and Hull ace Mason said

"I'd be surprised if next season they're both there [Pogba and Mourinho]. It has become such a big issue, I'd be so shocked if both of them remain

"But that's football at the end of the day, there will be problems, managers will leave, players will leave, but Manchester United will stay

"It's not tarnishing their name just yet, but the way it has gone over the last six to 12 months, it's not Manchester United

"If it carries on going like that, a lot of teams and players will begin looking at Manchester United in a different way

" Asked whether the club should side with Mourinho over Pogba, Mason added: "For me, 100 per-cent

What kind of message does it send if a club picks a player over the manager? That shouldn't happen at any football club

Mourinho is a serial winner, he's one of the best in the world.  "His style and his philosophy probably doesn't suit United at this moment in time but for sure he's bigger than Pogba

"Pogba's a great player and has the potential to be one of the best in the world but he's not proving himself at United on a consistent basis to back that up

"Pogba's last two weeks has summed up his United career. Young Boys, Champions League, scores a great goal, scores the penalty as well then the weekend backs it up with a really poor performance

"His inconsistency hasn't helped the whole situation because he's the star man at United and when he's on form, United are a completely different side

"Jose's probably given him too much responsibility. For me he's not a captain, his attitude at times he doesn't set the right example every single game

" And former Premier League front-man Darren Bent, joining Mason on The Debate, was in full agreement

"If this was any other club, it wouldn't be a big issue. Manchester United have always been a classy, well-run football club, and this kind of problem doesn't happen," he declared

"If a player steps out of line, they're gone, and they move on quickly. "All of a sudden this is rumbling on, the team isn't playing well, and something has to change

"It's not ruining their legacy at the moment, but at the same time, people are looking at Manchester United differently than how they were

"

Breaking News - EXCLUSIVE: Jefferson Lerma defends Colombia's tactics at the World Cup - Duration: 6:59.

It must be tough for a 23-year-old Colombian to play thousands of miles from home for Bournemouth in the toughest league in the world

But if you wondered if Jefferson Lerma has the strength of character, this is what happened when, as a 19-year-old freshly arrived in Spain, he met one of the most powerful men in football

Lerma was in his first season at Levante hoping to feature in the biggest match of the season at Real Madrid

He had been in Colombia with the Olympic squad and a visa issue had delayed his return to training

It looked as if the opportunity to play at the Bernabeu would pass but Levante manager Lucas Alcaraz named him on the bench and then put him on after 62 minutes

In those 28 minutes he clearly impressed. Afterwards he was invited to see the Levante president in the directors' lounge where he also met Real Madrid president Florentino Perez

'I was asked to meet the chairman and directors of Levante, who were with Florentino Perez, and Perez said, "You play very well, you run a lot"

' Unabashed, Lerma replied: 'Yes! Then sign me!' Perez deflected the suggestion by pointing out that they had already taken Keylor Navas from Levante, the goalkeeper who has since won three European Cups

But he did add that if Lerma kept playing as he was, then maybe, one day, they would return for him

For now Lerma is at Bournemouth, preparing to take on Crystal Palace on Monday night

But you have to admire his chutzpah. He grins when re-telling the story. 'Well,' he explains

'I have to trust in my abilities! It was a good opportunity.' Maybe Real Madrid will have to wait but Lerma's journey from the rural village of El Cerrito Valle in Colombia to Dorset via a World Cup last-16 game against England, in a team John Stones labelled the dirtiest ever, has been something of an odyssey

His village is about 40 minutes' drive away from Cali, the major city in the region

El Cerrito Valle is something of a tourist attraction after being made famous as the setting for Maria, the novel written by acclaimed 19th-century Colombian author Jorge Isaacs

However, Lerma has made his own mark on his hometown. His return from the World Cup saw him paraded through the streets on a fire engine as hundreds of locals thronged the streets

He is big news in El Cerrito Valle. 'It is a very beautiful village and I have become a quite famous person in the village and a good example for the young ones, now the children want to be footballers and many want to be like Lerma

' His was an ordinary village background and he pays tribute to his mother, who raised him and his two sisters and a brother

'My mother worked very hard when we were young but all that effort has had its reward and I will always be grateful to her,' he says

Lerma was passed over by the major Cali clubs, America and Deportivo Cali, but the unfashionable Atletico Huila, eight hours away by bus in the city of Neiva, picked him up, persuading him to come and join their youth academy, where he lodged in a dormitory

After breaking into the first team, he earned a loan move to Levante in La Liga in 2015, the year he impressed against Real Madrid

The World Cup was of course bittersweet for Lerma, after England overcame their penalty shootout jinx

Being picked for the squad, playing in all of Colombia's games and starting against England in the last 16 represented the pinnacle of his career

'All footballers want to play a World Cup; the truth is we are many, but few are chosen to go to that great festival

' He experienced the joy of Yerry Mina's injury-time equaliser against England in Moscow, which saw the 30,000 Colombians in the Spartak Stadium erupt

At that stage, the momentum seemed to be with Lerma's team. 'It was very beautiful to see the stadiums all in yellow, representing our fans; something very beautiful

When Yerry scored it was very euphoric because we [thought] we were going to go through

Sadly we failed in the penalties and we had to go home; this is football and it was an experience to remember

' He describes the clash as 'competitive', whereas John Stones called Colombia 'the dirtiest team I have ever played against'

Lerma begs to differ. 'Yes, I heard that, but I did not give it much attention, because in the end we are all free to think want we want

It was only one game. I was surprised when he said it because English football is also aggressive

' Soon after his homecoming parade, he was completing a club record £25m move to Bournemouth

Eddie Howe had identified him well before the World Cup as the key signing to add midfield holding strength

Lerma has embraced the new challenge in characteristically combative style, with two yellow cards to add to the 18 he picked up for Levante last season

However, he and Bournemouth look well suited. Howe's team came recommended by his Colombian team-mates, Brighton's Jose Izquierdo and Tottenham's Davinson Sanchez, who told him about the passing and attacking football that has become the trademark on the south coast

'They said that they played well with the ball, but also [because] it is English football, they are always thinking about attacking

' Only one thing bemuses him, however. 'The weather,' he says. 'Sometimes it is sunny, then overcast and then rain

But Jose and Davinson already told me that in England the weather was a bit complicated

' Obsessing about the weather and imposing his tackling on opponents: he should fit in well in England

Breaking News - Mercedes may order Valtteri Bottas to let Lewis Hamilton pass - Duration: 3:12.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff will call Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas together on Sunday morning to discuss whether to issue team orders for the Russian Grand Prix

Wolff left Sochi on Saturday wrestling a dilemma after Hamilton mucked up and surrendered pole position to his Finnish team-mate

Wolff admitted he had to decide whether to choreograph the race in favour of the Briton, who leads Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel — third fastest — by 40 points in the title race

Mercedes have been meticulous in letting their drivers race, but with six rounds to go pragmatism may win out

'We are not at a part of the season when I want two Mercedes racing each other at the front, much as I hate as a fan to issue orders,' he said

'None of us likes it. Lewis did not want that when he was racing Nico [Rosberg], believing he could beat him fair and square

It's tricky. We will come to a decision with the buy-in of everyone.' Wolff, who will involve his senior engineers in the process, must determine team policy going into the second corner — the first braking point

It is a long run into that dangerous bend, where the cars decelerate from 205mph to 90mph in the blink of an eye

Then how to play out the rest of the race? And in the pits? Bottas, who claimed his second pole of the season on the track where he registered his first victory last season, is likely to play ball because he is out of the title picture

'My approach is to win the race,' said Bottas. 'But obviously Lewis is leading with a bit of a gap to Sebastian and a very big gap to me, so you have to keep that in mind

' The perfect result would be a Hamilton-led one-two to extend their delicate 37-point lead over Ferrari in the constructors' championship

Hamilton's error at the seventh corner cost him pole. He was 0.145sec back from Bottas in the end, having been three-tenths up through the first sector

It was a rare glitch. He was still more than four-tenths quicker than Vettel. There was an unsatisfactory feel to the afternoon because engine changes to the McLaren of Fernando Alonso, the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo and the Toro Rossos of Brendon Hartley and Pierre Gasly meant they were condemned to the back and had to do a single lap only to qualify

The law is an ass. Verstappen, 21 on Sunday, will start last of the relegated five having incurred an additional penalty for ignoring yellow flags
