NRL grand final: Billy Slater's touching moment with Cooper Cronk - Blog news - Duration: 2:59.

Despite being on the wrong end of a grand final hiding in his last ever game, Billy Slater was all class in giving huge praise for his former teammate and good friend Cooper Cronk

The Roosters playmaker was touch-and-go to be able to play in the 2018 grand final after busting his left shoulder against the Rabbitohs last weekend

Cronk was finally confirmed just one hour before kick-off, and he was influential in guiding his side to a 21-6 victory over his old side - despite not touching the ball all the often

A visibly dejected Slater wasted no time in congratulating Cronk on a heroic performance

The Melbourne fullback was spotted on TV embracing his long-time teammate.Speaking to Channel Nine after fulltime, Slater revealed what he said

"He's a really good mate of mine - he's one of my best mates - and it was really tough to see him play the second half that he did last week, knowing that he was in doubt for this week," he said

"They hid that really well from us."What a courageous effort.I just told him how proud I was of him

"I'm shattered for our team, but I'm just really proud of the performance that he put in tonight

"He'll always be a great mate of ours, but he was just too good today." Slater said not knowing whether Cronk would or wouldn't play didn't influence the Storm, and put the loss down to a slow start

"I wouldn't say it was hard - it kept us in the dark, but at the same time, we had a great preparation," he said

"I couldn't fault our preparation. It was just the start for us and things just snowballed for us

"We lost Cameron Munster there for 10 minutes and that took a bit of juice out of it as well
