LIVERPOOL plan to continue spending the big bucks in order to compete with the likes of
Manchester United, says Anfield chief Peter Moore.
Liverpool are busy at work as they attempt to strengthen Jurgen Klopp's squad and prepare
to challenge on four fronts next season.
Fabinho and Naby Keita have already been welcomed through the door in deals worth more than
£90m combined this summer.
Fabinho and Keita join a playing roster which already boasts the world's most expensive
defender in Virgil van Dijk.
While Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move that would see Alisson Becker replace
Ederson as the priciest goalkeeper on the planet.
Liverpool chief executive officer Moore has now revealed the Reds will plough whatever
money they can into making signings.
"We're in a world now where if you're not a £500m football team you're not going to
win anything," Moore told the International Business Festival, as reported by the Liverpool
Echo.
"Our primary focus for every pound, Euro, dollar we make is to give it to Jurgen Klopp
and our scouting staff and our sporting director and say go buy the best players, go find the
next Mohamed Salah.
"This doesn't come cheap.
It's a high-stakes game.
It requires revenue coming in all the time."
Moore accepts Liverpool bringing in cash from fans across the globe will rub local supporters
up the wrong way.
But he says it is a necessity if Liverpool are to be contenders in the modern era.
"This is a city at times that doesn't like the fact that football is a business," added
Moore.
Moore also believes fans travelling to Merseyside to watch Liverpool can have benefits for the
city, not just
the club.

Liverpool spending plan 06:30: Liverpool plan to continue spending the big bucks in order to compete with the likes of Manchester United, says Anfield chief Peter Moore
Liverpool chief executive officer Moore has now revealed the Reds will plough whatever money they can into making signings
"We're in a world now where if you're not a £500m football team you're not going to win anything," Moore told the International Business Festival, as reported by the Liverpool Echo
"And the ability for us to be able to stay up bluntly with the Manchester Uniteds and the Barcelonas and the PSGs [Paris Saint-Germain] and the Real Madrids, all of whom have slightly different business models, becomes critical, because if we don't stay up with them we don't compete
"We are the proud owners of the world's most expensive defender in Virgil Van Dijk at £75m
But that money has got to come from somewhere. And being able to drive that growth becomes critical
Why? Because you invest in the team. "Our primary focus for every pound, Euro, dollar we make is to give it to Jurgen Klopp and our scouting staff and our sporting director and say go buy the best players, go find the next Mohamed Salah
"Go shore up the defence, which we did with Virgil Van Dijk. Go figure out how you can identify a player like we've just done with Naby Keita, buy him a year in advance, leave him in Germany, but now, as he shows up this week, is a Liverpool player
"This doesn't come cheap. It's a high-stakes game. It requires revenue coming in all the time

Breaking News - Were England right to make the changes? Verdict panel have their say - Duration: 4:16.
England fell to their first defeat of the 2018 World Cup on Thursday in Kaliningrad as Adnan Januzaj proved to be Belgium's match winner
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate made eight changes with first choice stars such as Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling unused substitutes during the defeat which set up a last-16 tie with Colombia on Tuesday
Here, Sportsmail's MARTIN KEOWN, JAMIE REDKNAPP and CHRIS SUTTON give their verdict on Southgate's decision
Jamie Redknapp: It was a brave move to rest so many — but did they even need a break? What struck me in England's first two games was how sharp the players looked
You cannot start plotting routes. To win the World Cup you have to face the best sides at some stage, whether that's Brazil in the quarter-finals or Spain in the semis
Gareth Southgate's World Cup will now be judged on whether we beat Colombia. Martin Keown: What this tells us is that Belgium's squad is slightly stronger
But we head into the knockout stages knowing that England still have a pretty decent starting XI
I understand why Gareth made the changes. I went to World Cups in 1998 and 2002 and was one of several players who did not get a chance to play
So far, everybody apart from the two goalkeepers has been given an opportunity. Chris Sutton: What must Harry Kane be thinking? He has a great chance of winning the Golden Boot but was left on the bench
If we are looking forward to a semi-final on Wednesday week, then it's a masterstroke
But England have won only six knockout matches since 1966 — and last night we lost to a team who didn't want to win
This has heaped unnecessary pressure on the team for the Colombia game and Southgate has left himself open to criticism
Chris Sutton: Fabian Delph was at fault for Belgium's goal. He should have anticipated the danger much quicker and he had plenty of time to get across to block the line of Adnan Januzaj's shot
Danny Rose could have done better, too, but he needed help from Delph that did not come
The Manchester City midfielder turned his back when Januzaj did eventually shoot but, given his poor positioning, there was little that he could have done to block it anyway
Januzaj should not have been given the time and space to get his shot away but, once he did, I don't think there was much goalkeeper Jordan Pickford could have done
