Waching daily Jan 2 2017

it's returned to the US market for years

ago is already cooling off

neither the little fusion 500 or its

larger sibling the 500 leaders have

caught on with mainstream customers both

were designed years ago for European

roads which are tight and crowded that's

the antithesis of America's driving in

thoughts be it knows this and its answer

is the 2016 500 deaths it lays the

brand's Kirby design / across over style

package with available all-wheel drive

there's more room for cargo to suit our

national preference for extra space the

500x still has italian charm but it

feels more at home on us roads than

other feeds

put simply the 500x is in the transplant

it's made for American buyers even if

it's assembled in Italy alongside the

jeep renegade we were skeptical that the

500x could turn around its fortunes but

this cute crossover headway of running

us over

maybe it was the brighter and show pain

Italian for orange of our test car the

most expressive of the twelve exterior

views even in the shadowing indoor

setting where our test drive begins

in culver city california this car

stands out in stark contrast the black

and gray interior is subdued intention

pull out test car is attracting model

the middle of five trim levels fitted

with the optional to God 4-liter engine

this naturally aspirated four-cylinder

is a free upgrade from the standard one

dot 4 liter turbo but mandates the

addition of a nine-speed automatic

transmission for $1,500 taking off the

morning traffic we head for the Santa

Monica freeway at the entrance we are

pitted against an older toyota camry an

on-ramp drag race we lay on the throttle

to put the tiger shark engines 180

horsepower and 175 pound feet of torque

into full use and leave the camera in

the dust as we had north toward Malibu

we can already tell that the 500x feels

like a different kind of get more

substantial it fills delaying there's

enough right driving position and we

feel confident cruising along at 70

miles per hour

ok so the 500x can handle & interstate

but what about an open road

we make our way through the pacific

coast highway California State Route one

the logical place to test be its claim

of being more in step with American

buyers there are stoplights people

wander across the street towards the

beach cars pass us and we pass them

subtract the ocean Aaron surfers and

this road is what a lot of us motorists

deal with everyday the 500x is all up

for it

the electric power rack-and-pinion

steering setup is light on center for

the turns feedback during lane changes

in turns the suspension handles road

imperfections appropriately as we /

manhole covers and other small obstacles

unflustered the 500x field talk even

possible at time but isn't to verbally

sporty when called upon the 500x stops

fine

there's little dive when we hit the

brakes hard our only quibble is with the

9-speed automatic transmission

the gearbox is fine for launches or as

steady speed but sometimes it just

clunks into gear we've got similar

issues with his transmission in the jeep

cherokee and chrysler 200 lungs full of

salty air we be run to the moment

Holland highway a winding road descends

into the hills around Malibu we dial up

sport mode with a twist of the console

mounted drive mode selector hear the

engine steering and electronic stability

control re-calibrated for more dynamic

driving we cooked the field through

corners

alternating jabs between the throttle

and brake pedals the body which is made

up of more than seventy percent

high-strength steel stage buttoned up

with a curve wait starting at 2967

pounds the 500x show off its agility as

we with past rock formations and turns

flanked by steep drop-offs back on the

PCH we take a closer look at interior

our trekking model includes the optional

comfort and convenience groups and costs

twenty-five thousand five hundred

dollars as tested the black cabin or

near osv it cause it has synthetic

leather on the raft and Stitch steering

wheel center storage area and shift knob

the steering wheel as big a throwback

way although it incorporates buttons for

audio and cruise control this particular

500x also has FCA's 5-inch you

connecting photo tainment touchscreen

with sirius XM satellite radio and

bluetooth three knobs that control the

heating and cooling are below the

UConnect screen and they sit in front of

the shifter the plastic dashboard fields

in line with the price point there's

plenty of usable storage upfront with

cup holders in the center console and

embedded in the sides of the doors the

glove box is a two-compartment video and

there's a container in front of the

shifter for mobile devices candy bars

coins and other road-going necessities

the big cloth and leather seats are

comfortable and better than what's found

in the other 500 visit pleasant place to

spend time even after several hours

behind the wheel the exterior design is

similarly easy on the mind be it wants

the styling to set it apart from

vehicles like the PS ol nissan juke and

mini countryman designer dangelo 20.2

cues that echo the original cinquecento

including the protruding notes

both be a badge flanked by whiskers

chrome door handles our trekking model

substitute satin silver accents and

trapezoidal greenhouse there's also

plastic cladding running around the

lower body and more ground clearance

than other five hundreds our tester

rolled on 17-inch machined aluminum

wheels with trendy spokes and pockets 16

and 18 inch wheels are also available

pricing for the 500x begins at the

twenty thousand nine hundred dollars pop

model and it comes with the one dot 4

liter turbo engine producing 160

horsepower and 184 pounds to foot of

torque mated to a 6-speed manual

transmission the range extends up to the

tracking plus which starts at

twenty-eight thousand dollars

all-wheel-drive ads 1900 dollars to the

price to all models except the

entry-level pop which is front-drive

only and the 500x is the first field to

offer this option it's the same setup

from the jeep renegade and it

automatically disconnect the rear axle

to improve efficiency when AWD

capability isn't needed

[HOT NEWS] THE BEST HYBRID? 2017 KIA NIRO HYBRID REVIEW - Duration: 10:29.

the 2017 key and Nero is a significant

model for the brand it's the company's

first car design from the get go to be a

hybrid and as key is VP of Product

Planning explains it's helping lead the

company's push to improve fuel economy

by twenty-five percent across the board

so it's kind of funny that almost

everything about this car reads as

conventional or simply normal there are

exceptions to this under the attractive

if not adventurous skin is some

interesting technology most of the

mechanicals are shared with the upcoming

monday i owned including the

direct-injected one got six liter inline

4 and electric motor that sent power to

the front wheels the powertrain makes a

combined 139 horsepower and 195 pound

feet of torque

he also implement various aerodynamic

and weight age to make the most of the

engine motor the nero features air

curtains a rear spoiler and active their

shutters to help achieve at 0.29

coefficient of drag and that

the hatch brake calipers and some

suspension components are all made of

aluminum plus when ordered with

navigation the Nero will provide tips on

driving more efficiently and we'll use

topographical information to use

electric power in the most efficient

manner the various bits of fuel

maximizing technology mean the nero

manages previous like fuel-economy

ratings of 52 miles per gallon in the

city 49 on the highway and 50 combined

that's only for the base of a model

though moving up to the slightly better

equipped LX and ex models yields a small

decrease 251 city 46 highway and 49

overall if you opt for the Turing model

shown here because you want all the

bells and whistles be ready to sacrifice

more mileage it only manages 46 city 40

Highway and 43 overall Kiev says this is

due to the increased weight of the

standard features different roof rails

that change the aerodynamic profile and

the larger wider 18-inch wheels and

tires that increase the rotational mass

in rolling resistance all of the effort

you put into making the nero and highly

efficient previous fire seems to have

been matched by an effort to make the

car up here as normal as possible and

give it a broad just appeal so no

polarizing looks like on the latest

previous and furious prime glancing at

it you would say the nero is just

another crossover the greenhouse looks

like a scaled-down version of the

Sorrento's that's not necessarily a bad

thing since the larger here crossover is

fairly handsome

the nero scowling headlights input

scallops are sharp to what the bureau

does have an air of anonymity and

nothing about it

aside from some badges shall hybrid or

efficient in that way it's like the anti

prius the same goes for the inside

forget glossy white plastics big touch

screens and funky shifters we've got an

interior that wouldn't look out of place

in any other kia it slow and wine and

has good fit and finish there are some

cheap plastics here and there but

they're textured nicely and kept two

areas of the dash that you won't be

touching often only the gauge cluster

looks mildly futuristic with its power

economy meter being a crossover sort the

nero also has a high seating position

that coupled with the low dad provides

good forward visibility the conventional

hatchback shape also means that the Nero

has a healthy amount of cargo space with

the rear seats on it offers 19.4 cubic

feet of space and 54.5 with them down

there's even a run-of-the-mill t-handle

shifter inside connected to a mostly

conventional transmission the nero packs

electric motor in a six-speed

dual-clutch transmission instead of a

cbts arrangement like many other hybrids

the 1.56 kilowatt hour battery pack is

hidden under the rear seat and doesn't

cut into cargo room an advantage of Kia

designing this platform for use as a

hybrid from the start

the theme of the narrow seems to be

fancy technology in a plane palatable

package the driving experience certainly

backs that up the transmission works

pretty well and certainly feels more

like what you find in the average

automobile it isn't lightning fast but

is still generally smooth and responds

promptly enough in both automatic and

manual mode

considering the transmission has actual

gears and a manual shift mode it would

be nice to have a tachometer to judge

when best to request a shift as a bit of

a workaround you can drop the shifter

into the sport gate pick a gear to

engage manual shifting and let it up

shift on its own at what is presumably

redline the powertrain is acceptable

peppy as well it's not going to blow you

away but it sets off with solid pace

thanks in part to the electric motors

media torque and in sport mode the

throttle is responsive and the

transmission old years longer

unfortunately the gas engine is not a

refined piece of machinery and you hear

a lot from it in this board mode in

buzzes and moans and mere wide open

throttle because of all this

you'll probably just want to leave the

shifter and drive another reason to

avoid sport mode is that it also affects

steering the nero actually has fairly

Pleasant steering in the default driving

mode its weighted nicely and resistance

builds up naturally like so many modern

staring systems feedback is mostly

absent but occasionally you'll feel

occur in all of information work up

through the column this changes when

sport mode is engaged the weight

increases noticeably and unfortunately

interests feels artificial it also seems

to do away with any faint feedback that

may have made it to your fingertips

otherwise the nero is certainly

competent in corners feeling plenty

stable but it's not going to have you

seeking out twisty roads there is some

noticeable body roll and it doesn't turn

an eagerly the ride is generally good

and very little noise makes it into the

cockpit and while bombs don't upset the

handle

they are felt in the cabin larger

imperfections are a bit rough and small

bumps and irregularities can leave the

car feeling a tad jittery it is possible

this is primarily an issue on the

touring model the only version available

on our drive as it has a slightly

different suspension to handle the

larger wheels and lower profile tires

the Fae LX and ex modules might have a

more composed ride thanks to different

suspension calibration and taller

sidewalls on 16-inch wheels that said he

attends to turn its suspensions on the

stiff side and there is the weight of

the hybrid components to contend with

kia has done an excellent job of

eliminating one of the most common

complaints with hybrids inconsistent

brake pedal field because hybrid

typically use blended brake systems that

combine regenerated and mechanical power

that can vary when pressing the pedal

the response can feel a bit odd and make

judging the amount of pressure needed

difficult that issue is non-existent in

the nero the feedback is low the

resistance of the pedal is good and

always steady we like it to be firmer

but the average driver shouldn't have

any issues with it the Narrows price

goes along with the rest of its

mainstream palatability via hasn't set

final pricing yet but we're told that

base model will start at around twenty

four thousand dollars which would put

the nero just under the 25,000 $65 price

of the base curious touring models

should top out around 32 thousand

dollars if the narrow sound like the car

for you you'll be able to pick one of

this January and if you can wait a while

longer here will be launching a plug-in

version at the end of 2017 that will

have an electric range of about 25 miles

that model will likely cost more but

available tax credits may offset all or

part of the price increase taken as a

whole the nero is a solid car it's not

outstanding and it's not horrible

it's good it looks handsome enough it

rides comfortably enough it handles well

enough and most important for some it

does a good job of high

meaning the fact that it's a hybrid at

all its best thought of as a competent

and competitive cross over that happens

to get roughly 50 miles per gallon if

you go easy on the options there are

crossovers and time birds that are sport

year more comfortable or more striking

looking but for many people the Nero

will be just about perfect giving them

the crossover look and feel they desire

with a measure of utility while also

delivering excellent fuel economy that

combination is at least noticeable
