And I'm Lt(N) Jamie Bresolin. Here are the headlines at Defence.

The Auditor General recently issued a report

on the Phoenix pay system.

Since the Phoenix implementation,

our department has taken and will continue to take

significant and necessary steps to address employee pay issues.

We now have 65 Compensation Team members

reviewing and tackling DND critical cases,

with a planned growth to 100 by the end of the fiscal year.

If you are experiencing pay issues,

please speak to your manager.

All employees should be aware of the roles and responsibilities,

and are encouraged to consult the available resources.

The International Day for Persons with Disabilities is December 3rd.

This UN-sponsored initiative

aims to raise awareness of disability issues, create a stronger

understanding of the rights of persons with disabilities,

and promote the benefits of including people with disabilities

in all aspects of community and working life.

This year,

the Defence Team will commemorate the day under the theme,

Working Towards a Sustainable and Inclusive World.

A national event will be held on December 1st

at National Defence Headquarters, with local events taking place

across the Defence Team in early December.

As part of Canada's ongoing commitment to the defeat of Daesh,

CAF Engineers have begun delivering explosive threat training

to Iraqi security forces.

This contribution, made through Operation IMPACT,

will see approximately 20 Canadian Army engineers

deployed to deliver the explosive threat training

to partner forces in Besmaya.

Responding to the Coalition's need

for an evolving military campaign,

the CAF is adjusting its aircraft contributions

as well as the deployment of a second CC-130J Hercules aircraft

to join Joint Task Force – Iraq.

The previously deployed CP-140 Aurora detachment

will return to Canada in mid-December.

Imoh Umoren Tackles Victim Blaming In Short Film, 'Questions'

Imoh Umoren is one of the exciting new filmmakers  in Nigeria.

He has directed outstanding projects for various brands such as MTV and MTN as well as his own productions such as Children Of Mud, The Happyness Limited and also Nigerias first experimental film, Hard Times.

In conjunction with Project Alert, the talented filmmaker released a short film, Questions which tackles victim blaming.

A lot of the time – especially amongst Nigerians – victims of abuse are held responsible for the harm that befell them (case in point: Monalisa Chinda). .

Questions perfectly juxtaposes usual victim blaming, putting it in a different situation and showing the desperate stupidity of it.

The subject of the short film has his car stolen, and instead of showing sympathy, the onlookers and people surrounding blame him by asking silly questions instead of focusing on the issue – that he was robbed! .

Victims are expected to always be guarded and told to avoid trouble, and there is not enough pressure on the oppressors to stop being trash.

 Until society unlearns this problematic stance, there will continue to be violence, and much worse, complicit onlookers.

In Questions, Imoh Umorens take on this is brilliant, and we hope that this jostles society to take a different stance to victim blaming.
