DPS News Now | Welcoming Board Members, Excellence in Teaching - Duration: 1:02.

This is "DPS News Now."

This week we're at Wings Over the Rockies celebrating some of the district's top educators.

"Distinguished teachers, are you in the house?"

(Crowd cheers)

A record number of Denver Public Schools' top teachers and support staff, such as social

workers, counselors and nurses, were celebrated at the annual Excellence in Teaching event.

Educators from across DPS, who earned the rating of Distinguished, were recognized for

their extraordinary contributions to ensuring Every Child Succeeds.

The district welcomed newly elected members of the Board of Education and all have a history

of serving Denver kids.

Three new members are all former classroom teachers.

Angela Cobián… representing Southwest Denver, Carrie Olson… representing Central/East

Denver and Jennifer Bacon… representing Northeast Denver.

Barbara O'Brien, former Colorado Lieutenant Governor and Children's Campaign president,

returns to the school board in her at-large seat.
