Last year I was doing Second Timothy
and then I was just attracted to
a great error that I believe that we've embraced in our previous translations
2 Timothy 2 verse 12 and 13
where traditionally you know we were taught that the Bible says
if we deny God, He cannot wait to also deny us and
you know, scriptures like that offend the truth and it offends the work of Christ
and so we had a few days off, I remember I said to Lydia,
«i'm just going to just do chapter 2 of 2nd Timothy»
but then I actually did chapter 1 as well, I thought because it's so important
to realize radical statements in context
and so often
religion employed all kinds of statements that we have adopted in time in our many thousands of translations
especially in the English language, I suppose the others have also committed the same errors
where we have continued with a language of law, punishment, condemnation, judgment,
failing to appreciate the finished work of the cross
and so I've just recently, oh, during our time, our break now here in the bush
I have completed the first book of Thessalonians
and it's absolutely radical
I cannot wait to launch it and release it, so that you can discover the wealth
and the treasures that are hidden in that beautiful book
it was first Paul's first epistle that he ever wrote to the churches
well, the one that we have on record and then
I continued where I left off last year from second Timothy chapter 2 verse 13
and so I continued translating verse 14 right into the final few verses of that chapter
and em..
I'm just so excited that the theme of what Grace communicates and reveals is consistent
it has found a patent, a rhythm in our understanding of the finished work of Christ
that is beyond dispute,
because that word that we have translated "if one denies God, God will also deny us"
is the Greek word that means "contradiction",
so Paul writes in the context of the severe contradiction that he was facing
he was in bonds, he says even though I am in bonds and suffering like a criminal
he says the word is unfettered,
so he says earlier on 2 Timothy, "Don't let my bonds be an embarrassment to you"
so Paul's whole argument in in these two chapters are about
us not losing faith in ourselves when we face contradictions
he says, "God cannot be untrue to himself
God cannot contradict what he knows to be true about you
so let me just read you just briefly here from I'll read from verse 14
well, I might as well pick it up from verse 12 then,
ah... actually you know we might as well go a little bit further and ah
or earlier and just pick up Paul's conversation here in verse 9, as I've mentioned
eh....make .......sorry
I'll read from verse 7, 2nd Timothy 2 from verse 7
«Ponder my words, the Lord will give you insight
that will inspire you in every contradiction that you face,
make my Gospel emphasis the focus of your thoughts
Jesus Christ is the seed of David, He is the promised Messiah
His resurrection from the dead is the proof!
and in the commentary note I have said here,
«It is the evidence that He completed the salvation of mankind, by defeating death »
So, His resurrection is the evidence, is the proof that God defeated...
completed the salvation of mankind and defeated death
see Hosea 6 verse 2 and Ephesians 2 verse 5
2 Timothy 2 verse 9,
« I might be in bonds, but the Word of God is not»
and then in the commentary note I wrote here
«it might seem to some that my suffering contradicts what I preach, but it cannot!
my ministry is measured by the Word and not by my circumstances»
see Colossians 1:24
from the Mirror Bible, of course,
through verse 10
«This gives me more than enough reason not to quit,
I desire for everyone to discover the fact
that the life of their design is redeemed in Christ Jesus,
this is the timeless intent of God»
and the commentary note says, «the Greek word '¹eklegomai"
comes from the word 'Ek', which is 'source' or 'origin' and 'legomai', from 'Logos',
thus 'the life of our design'»
Traditionally we have always translated that word to refer to the election,
as if some are 'in' and some are 'out'
but 'Eklego' speaks of the
original logic of God
when God determined in His thought, the Word that was before time was
the Word that declares that He knew you before he formed in your mother's womb
is the 'Eklegomai of God', the original eternal intent of God
in fashioning his image and likeness in human form,
let's carry on verse 11 of 2nd Timothy 2
The logic of God endorses our faith .
The Word is trustworthy! haha
The logic of God endorses our faith
we were included in his death
and are therefore equally included in his resurrection
verse 12, here we go
whenever we suffer,
we already know that we co-reign with Him
the Christ life rules!
Don't let contradiction dethrone YOU from being co-seated together with Christ!
the commentary note says,
ah, sufferings do not distract us
neither do they contradict our joint position with Him, in the throne room
and here we continue the text,
if we not deny him
you'll notice that in the King James the 'him' is in cursive, so it's not in the original text
"if we contradict"...what do we contradict?
if we allow our contradictions to become like a mental block where we
believe a lie about ourselves and we feel contradicted
if Paul felt contradicted in his bonds,
then he would have shut up and said, " well
I've got nothing positive to say about the gospel anymore
because my life seems to contradict the gospel"
No ways! Let's read on,
«so, if we contradict ourselves..»
meaning, 'behaving unlike ourselves"
He will contradict us, and prove us wrong!»
the word 'arneomai"
means to contradict,
to act entirely unlike oneself
verse 13
«our unbelief does not change what God believes,
He cannot contradict himself!» haha
you see, God cannot be untrue to himself
I've written this here in our note
ah... the commentary notes refers to Romans 3:3 and 4
What we believe about God does not define Him,
God's faith defines us
God cannot be untrue to himself
verse 14 and this is what I started with the last few days
just to continue with this chapter where we
broke it off in our previous conversation because we ran out of days
and here we are, verse 14, II Timothy, chapter 2
Gently remind your audience always of these things
which focus on the fact that the life of your design is redeemed in Christ Jesus
because we were included in his death,
and are therefore equally included in his.. in his resurrection
this is the foundation of our faith and cannot be contradicted by any persecution
because God cannot be untrue to himself
let your testimony in your face to face encounter with the Lord
speak for itself
you don't need to engage in a war of words
to desperately try and defend doctrines and perceptions
instead of proving profitable, these debates are catastrophic
to the faith of your students
to mix two systems
will certainly confuse your audience
commentary note here I said, See verse 10 and 11 and 2 Corinthians 5 verse 14 and 15
verse 15 of 2nd Timothy 2,
"without any delay",
now, in all our known translations we've said, "study to show yourself, you know,
a workman approve needs not to be ashamed
cutting rightfully.. cutting the word of truth
okay just to help you re.. remind you of the previous translation
The word that we have translated there in the old translations as 'study' is the Greek word 'spoudei"
where we get the word 'speed' from, immediately promptly
so, «without any delay, live your life from a place
where you are familiar with a complete approval of God
you do not need to apologize for the fact that your experience might be a contradiction to your faith
what God believes about you needs no defense
there is such an immediate authority in clarity,
truth triumphs over every contradiction
it makes a clear-cut division between light and darkness
the word of truth shows distinctly that the duty driven law of works and annoyances
and the love driven law of perfect liberty have nothing in common»
and then I've got in this commentary note here, just the reference to the Greek word "spoudatzo"
means to use speed, to be prompt, immediate,
the word 'paristemi'.. from 'para', a preposition indicating close proximity
a theme proceeding from a sphere of influence with a suggestion of union
of place of residence
to have sprung from its author and giver,
originating from, denoting the point from which an action originates
intimate connection, and the word 'istemi', to position.
The word 'alētheia'' means 'not concealed', truth, clarity
Verse 16, «do not engage in any conversation that may sound pios
but carries no content, it only leads into lengthy and meaningless ungodly debates
in the previous word Paul used the Greek word 'Paristemi'
and now he uses the word 'periïstēmi'
but in the notes you can go and read about it if you get this translation
verse 17
«their conversation consumes like gangrene»
'gaggraina' is a Greek word and it means gangrene
Hymenaios and Philētos are typical examples,
these two guys are typical examples
of people who get you involved in all kinds of debates,
we've got Facebook people like that as well
that are just there to try and distract from what truth reveals
and it eats away like gangrene into your faith,
let's read verse 18,
but they have completely lost track of the truth
by arguing that the resurrection of Christ has no further relevance
any teaching that distracts from humanity's joint inclusion in Jesus' resurrection,
turns belief upside-down
see verse 8 and 11 in this verse, to just continue the context, and follow the context
«the inclusion of mankind in the death» this is part of my commentary note,
«the inclusion of mankind in the death and resurrection of Christ,
is the focal point of the Gospel»
see 1 Corinthians 2 verse 8
«neither the politicians nor the theologians of the day had a clue about this mystery
of mankind's inclusion in Christ,
if they did they would never crucified the Lord, whose death redeemed our glory»
now verse 19,
«the foundation of what God believes about you
stands inmovable and beyond dispute,
regardless of human opinion or contradiction
the inscription and impression made by the Signet ring of God
is his signature in your DNA;
He knows you as his own» Remember Jeremiah one verse five?
«I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb»
Let's continuous verse 8 to verse 19
»Let everyone see themselves defined by the name of Christ
and depart from everything that does not reveal likeness»
'a dikē' we've made that iniquity in our translations
but 'a' is the negative, dikē is the root of the word 'dikaiosýnē'
where we get the word 'righteousness' from,
and that root word means, 'two parties finding likeness in each other'
so anything
that does not reveal 'likeness',
depart from it!!
Don't engage in doctrine that does not reveal likeness
don't dr..engage and waste your time & life
on trying to defend ridiculous doctrines that are no longer relevant
in the light of the finished work of Christ
it's like trying to reinvent the ox wagon,
maybe get it more streamlined,
but listen,
the ox wagon days are over!
verse 21
no, no, no, ...oh! this is beautiful! you've got a listen to this
2 Timothy 2 verse 20
«Even in mega rich households
there are not only vessels of gold and silver,
but also of wood and clay
its usefulness defines its true value
even though its function differ, each vessel is equally important
verse 21, realize your individual value and
stop discrediting yourself
you are indispensable for your masters use
He knows exactly what he has in you
be ready for any good work»
again, the reference to the context, verse 12
if we contradict ourselves, behave unlike ourselves,
He will contradict us and prove us wrong, and verse 13
our unbelief does not change what God believes
He cannot be untrue to himself
and you can also go and read what Paul wrote in Romans chapter 9 and 1 Corinthians 12, about the vessels
the old translation they kind of made it out that you've got to try and become a golden vessel
because shame, you know, you're just an earthen vessel, you know
you're just made out of wood
and you're going to try and gradually upgrade yourself
that's the junk that religion has taught for years!
and printed in Bible books
and made it the voice of God!
Do yourself a favor, get ahold of the Mirror translation
get ahold of
the core Greek words that continue the rhythm, the patent, the resonance, the echo of likeness
because that's the message of the Bible
the theme of the book is the likeness, the image of the invisible God
redeemed in the visible form,
articulated in the living epistle
beating with your heartbeat
finding gaze in your eyes, touching your hands and voicing your mouth.
God bless you!
