IT'S A RARE THING WHEN
SNOW COVERS THE UPSTATE....BUT
WHEN IT DOES....WE'RE OUT IN
IT. WE'RE BUILDING
SNOWMEN...AND THROWING
SNOWBALLS... AND PERHAPS
NOBODY LOVES THE SNOW MORE
THAN 11 YEAR OLD TYLER
SHELLEY... I like playing
in it, doing like sledding...
BUT THIS WEEKEND'S
SNOWFALL...DIDN'T BRING ABOUT
THE FUN HE USUALLY LOVES ...
INSTEAD HE HAD TO WATCH IT
COME DOWN FROM THE WINDOW OF
HIS HOSPITAL ROOM AT
GREENVILLE MEMORIAL. HIS
MOTHER....AMY SHELLY...SAYS
THEY'VE GOTTEN USED TO THE
VISITS. TYLER HAS
MITOCHONDRIAL DISEASE
...AFFECTING HOW HIS CELLS
FUNCTION. BUT MISSING OUT
ON THE SNOW...STUNG A LITTLE
BIT. It's a rare occasion
in the South and there's so
many things as a family that
you can do together on a day
like today that,
unfortunately, we're split
apart, so we are missing out
on. THAT'S WHEN TYLER'S
OLDER SISTER ....MICHAELA....AN
D A FRIEND STEPPED IN...
One of her friends actually
got an idea to, um, get
everybody to send pictures and
she email you guys. AND WE
WERE HAPPY TO HELP SPREAD THE
HASHTAG "SNOW FOR TYLER"
WITHIN HOURS....THOUSANDS OF
PHOTOS POURED IN....PUTTING A
SMILE ON HIS FACE. Very
cool How does it make you
feel? Happy TYLER SAYS
HE AND HIS SISTER MICHAELA
....HAVE A SPECIAL BOND...
THEY PROTECT EACH OTHER.
She's like me, she has a lot
of medical problems like me,
so when it gets hard for me,
she can help me. That's what I
like about her that she helps
me through the hard times.
The things that they do for
each other beyond normal
sibling stuff makes me proud
to see what they are doing and
the compassion that they have
for each other. AND FOR
THIS MOTHER....SHE SAYS THE
SUPPORT THAT'S NOW GROWN
WORLDWIDE TO BRING HER SON A
SNOW DAY....IS OVERWHELMING.
It's surreal to think about
what these people are doing to
help this little guy who is
missing out on something that,
for some, they take for
granted...being able to go
outside and play in the snow.
AND TYLER....HAS A MESSAGE
FOR ANYONE WHO'S SENT SOME
SNOW HIS WAY: Whoever did,
if anybody did, I just want to
say thank you for everything
that they did. IN
