WAS
FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES.
>> AT LEAST FOUR DIFFERENT HOSES
FIGHTING THE FIRE AT ONE POINT.
ANDY: GEVON DAYNUAH CAPTURED IT
ALL ON HER PHONE, WHEN JUST
MINUTES AFTER RINGING IN THE NEW
YEAR, A LOUD NOISE ROCKED HER
NEIGHBORHOOD.
>> LITERALLY ABOUT 12:02 THERE
WAS A BOOM, AND THEN THERE WERE
SIRENS.
WE CAME OUTSIDE, PROBABLY 12:0
THE BLOCK WAS FULL OF 14 TRUCKS,
RESPONDENTS, AMBULANCE, AND FIRE
TRUCKS.
ANDY: THE OVERNIGHT HOUSE FIRE
NEAR 10TH AND HADLEY SPREAD
THROUGHOUT THE FIRST AND SECOND
FLOORS.
FIRE CREWS SAY AN 18-MONTH-OLD
CHILD WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL
FOR SMOKE INHALATION.
A MAN AND A WOMAN SUSTAINED
NON-LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES.
ONE EVEN JUMPED OUT THE
SECOND-STORY WINDOW.
CREWS ALSO SAY SIX OTHER
CHILDREN ESCAPED UNHARMED.
>> I HEARD A WOMAN RIGHT THERE
SCREAMING, "THERE'S KIDS IN
THERE, THERE'S KIDS IN THERE."
ANDY: KEVIA JOHNSON AND KORIEN
WILLIS WERE NEWLY ENGAGED AT THE
STROKE OF MIDNIGHT.
BUT WITHIN MINUTES, THEIR TIME
TO CELEBRATE QUICKLY TURNED INTO
A TIME TO COUNT BLESSINGS.
>> THANK GOD THE KIDS ARE SAFE,
THANK GOD.
BUT I FEEL FOR HER AS FAR AS
THEIR HOUSE GOES.
I UNDERSTAND.
>> I'M JUST GLAD EVERYBODY IS
SAFE, THOUGH.
ANDY: AND DESPITE THE FACT THAT
AN 18-MONTH-OLD CHILD WAS IN THE
HOSPITAL, DESPITE THE FACT
SOMEONE JUMPED OUT OF THAT
SECOND-STORY WINDOW, NEIGHBORS
AND FIREFIGHTERS ARE THANKFUL
THAT THIS FIRE WAS NOT A FATAL
ONE.

[HOT NEWS] THE BEST TURBO? 2017 KIA SOUL TURBO - Duration: 10:29.
finally finally after much teasing
taunting and auto show concepting idea
is making its fantastic hatch box this
hole with a turbocharged engine the new
2017 soul turbo takes all the good
things about the standard car the space
style comfort & long list of standard
and optional equipment and a dose of
performance courtesy of the one dot 6
litre turbo four-cylinder also used in
the 45s X in forte koup as well as
sunday zero interest for ten veloster
turbo it was a long time coming
according to Pia consumers like the soul
to the tune of almost 150,000 units last
year but aren't as fond of its previous
two engine lineup which previously
topped out at a 161 horsepower 150-pound
foot naturally aspirated four-cylinder
alongside all-wheel-drive more power was
at the top of the customer wish list
while all-wheel drive is absent here
the packaging is too tricky in the cost
to hi kiya tells us the soul turbot gets
a market whitespace offering small
futility with entertaining but not
overwhelming straightline performance
this is Indian a higher power version
and not a full-on performance model and
the changes were made without
compromising the friendly look and
comfort we like yes the turbo specific
18-inch wheels look lovely but they're
shot in the same 45 series offseason
rubber as the 18th available on other
soul and wild him some leather wrap
flat-bottom steering wheel is 40 the
supportive but not claustrophobic seats
are a reminder that this is an everyday
vehicle even the exterior accents new
front and rear fashions side sills red
exterior badgers and accents and a dual
tip exhaust aren't enough to overshadow
the souls funky friendly and cute look
even the oily bits aren't free of kia's
balanced approach admitted me that's not
entirely evident after looking at the
powertrain details the turbo one got six
litre produces 201 horsepower and 195
pounds to put of torque which isn't a
lot for cars like the veloster turbo or
four day five sx but compared to other
small cubes and the souls 130-horsepower
non-turbo one dot six leader and 161
horsepower to dot 0 lead
it's a big improvement that to dot 0
liter engine is likable with enough low
and mid-range torque that we can't
complain about the 4700 revolutions per
minute peak but the total figures are so
low
when the souls 3163 pound curve wait so
high getting anywhere briskly means ring
everything out of it
thus old turbo does not have this
problem it will check its tires off the
line with a hint of torque steer
deploying all 195 pounds to put a torque
between 1500 and 4500 revolutions per
minute and unlike the two dot 0 leader
which runs out of steam north of five
thousand revolutions per minute the
turbo continues charging forward past
that speed the turbo remains relaxed in
everyday driving the engine revs quickly
sure but the throttle is progressive and
easy to manipulate in normal mode sport
as expected sharpens the throttle it was
our go-to on Northern California's
coastal twistys what he has engineered
could have gotten a little more
aggressive the force induced engine
sounds nicer than the to God 0 liter
four-cylinder to from the start the
standard soul sound like an economy car
even though it cruises quietly the
engine is busy and noisy particularly
admitted to hire f while the one dot six
leader is just as quiet at freeway
speeds it sounds a measurably better
when pushed the engine backup wooshie
turbo noises with a smooth enjoyable
exhaust note it's no fiat 500 bar but
can nailed the mix between sporty and
refined while the engine is very
likeable a big part of what makes it all
work is the seven-speed dual-clutch
transmission which replaces the two dot
0 leader 6 speed torque converter
automatic the six-speed is fine but the
seven-speed is better in all the ways
the dual-clutch transmissions are better
than traditional automatic the sold
turbos transmission engages faster off
the line and upshifts quicker and more
aggressively the dual clutch is also
mostly devoid of bad
in traffic manners still the 7-speed DCT
isn't as polite as Volkswagens dsg and
it's shifts artists crisp our biggest
criticism of the transmission surrounds
the interface though not the hardware
it's ok that in normal soul with its low
power engine and regular automatic
doesn't get paddles but with the
repeater bow charged engine and a sharp
transmission plus the flat-bottom
steering wheel the turbo model deserves
them adding panels without the fun
factor significantly and provide a
welcome alternative to the shifters
backwards manual mode game push
corruptions call for down ships perhaps
are repeated comments on the subject to
keep personnel will be considered and
paddles will show up in the future
pairing the turbo with the dct results
in not only the most powerful so you can
get but the most efficient ignoring the
soul level of course the one got six
leader manages 26 miles per gallon in
the EPA city test in 31 miles per gallon
on the highway both numbers are one
better than those perky is naturally
aspirated alternatives so when you're
cost-conscious significant other asks
why you need the turbocharged model
there's your answer
while kia replace the standard souls
powertrain it wasn't as aggressive with
the suspension there are struts up front
and a torsion beam and back just like on
every other soul the main differences
are slightly stiffer springs and dampers
you won't notice these differences
although it doesn't matter all that much
the car is still a hoot to toss around
in that entertaining way that a lot of
slow budget-friendly cars are there's
not a lot of body roll
despite the high center of gravity while
the dampers are a microcosm of the
vehicle they're attached to the balance
between comfort and outright handling
ability is just right so you can zip
along the pockmarked urban street
without breaking your back but also
throw the car into a bend at speed
without worry
he has reshuffling of the souls
powertrain accompanied to rethink of the
trim levels there are still three trims
base plus called plus and explain but
where the 2016 car relied on the volume
2 dot 0 leader for its top two dreams
the range toffee is now only available
with the turbocharged engine and 7-speed
DCT the price for that model increases
from twenty one thousand three hundred
dollars to twenty two thousand six
hundred fifty dollars which is a very
easy pill to swallow considering the
improved performance refinement
efficiency and looks opting for the soul
is also a smart choice if your cross
shopping Kia's box with its litany of
competitors the company considers
everything from conventional compact
crossovers like the Nissan Juke Mazda
cx-3 be at 500 deaths and honda hr-v to
the five-door ford focus and chevrolet
cruze as potential cross shops the
turbos engine outpaces everything we
just listed except the high-end Judaism
RS and unless you opt for the four
thousand dollars and option packages the
soul does it for less money to the sea
x3gp starts at twenty-four thousand nine
hundred ninety dollars the focus
titanium is 24,000 $75 and the renegade
limited is 25,000 195 dollars to name a
few
the soul turbo is a car we've waited a
long time for it add so much to the
models overall package without
subtracting any of the things we like
and it does it for an extremely
reasonable premium our complaints are
few paddle shifters would be nice and
it'd be cool to see the one dot 6 litre
turbo outside the range-topping trim and
are small enough to overlook if you're
in the market for a small commuter
friendly crossover with some firing its
belly kia is finally selling the package
you've been waiting for

Nine great news stories about animals in 2016 | Useful info - Duration: 7:26.
When you write about animals full-time — which is a wonderful gig — it's easy to end
up telling depressing stories of death, cruelty and neglect.
Sure, I could focus my energies on inspiring tales of cute cats and loyal dogs, but that's
not really the mission of this blog.
That said, there has been plenty of fun and uplifting news in the animal world in 2016.
Care to end your year on a high note by reading some of it?
If so, here's a selection.
It's focused on news that's good for groups of animals, as opposed to individual animals,
and — fair warning — some of the pieces do include some sad elements.
But not many — so enjoy!
The comeback of the Channel Islands foxes
These furry cat-sized foxes, which live on islands off California, nearly went extinct
because eagles decided they were tasty snacks.
But thanks to a recovery effort that involved captive-breeding the foxes, shooting feral
pigs and relocating eagles, the little canines on three of the islands made such a record-breaking
rebound that they were taken off the endangered species list.
Thriving wildlife in the wasteland of Chernobyl
The Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine exploded 30 years ago, leaving behind a surreal
landscape of vacant structures, abandoned villages and poisoned terrain.
But when University of Georgia researchers placed dozens of remote cameras in a densely
forested part of the 1,600-square-mile Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in 2014, they were rewarded
with images of boars, wolves, foxes, raccoon dogs and more.
"It's basically an incredibly large sanctuary" for animals, one researcher told me of the
photos, which were published in a study this year.
Undercover robot animals are helping real animals
Poaching doesn't just happen to rhinos or elephants in Africa — plenty of illegal
hunting happens right here in the United States.
To catch poachers, authorities are increasingly turning to an army of remote-controlled robo-wildlife:
Stuffed deer, bear and moose that are strategically placed in illegal hunting hotspots.
They're in high demand, officials say, because they're quite good at tricking poachers
into shooting them.
Think you'd be able to tell a robo-deer from a real deer?
The quiz you'll find here might tell you otherwise.
Black-footed ferrets are stunningly cute, native to the United States, and endangered
because the plague is killing their primary prey, the prairie dog.
But the feds have proposed a killer solution: They are flying drones over the plains where
the little critters live and shooting down peanut butter-flavored pellets laced with
plague vaccine.
It appears to be working.
Glimmers of an end to the grisliest mass deaths you've probably never heard of
Male chicks born in hatcheries for egg-laying hens meet quick and brutal deaths: They are
tossed in a blender on the day they break out of their eggs, because they're not useful
to the egg and poultry industry.
They can't grow up to lay eggs, and they're not the breeds used for chicken meat.
But this year, there were signs that this gruesome practice might soon end.
First, United Egg Producers, which represents most U.S. hatcheries, announced that it would
end the culling by 2025.
Later, a Texas firm said it had developed the technology to identify the gender of chicks
while they're still in their eggs, adding itself to a small group of companies competing
to be the first to bring what's bound to be a popular product to the market.
A British town gets a full-time 'Hedgehog Officer'
Ipswich, a town on the eastern coast of the United Kingdom, is a haven for hedgehogs,
but the wee creatures' population has been falling.
So a local wildlife organization decided to hire someone to focus on hedgehog conservation,
and they gave the position what might be the most delightful job title ever: Hedgehog Officer.
A British woman beat out about 150 applicants for the job.
A national park gets a part-time 'Bark Ranger'
Logan Pass, a picturesque point in the peaks of Glacier National Park, attracts lots of
tourists in the summer, and those tourists in turn attract mountain goats and bighorn
sheep.
The animals have a taste for antifreeze and human urine, and they apparently see no reason
why they shouldn't amble around in search of it in a large parking lot at the pass.
They're a charming sight but also a potentially dangerous one, because people love to take
selfies with wild animals and these particular wild animals have sharp horns.
Enter Gracie, a border collie who was deployed this summer to herd the sheep and goats away
from the parking lot.
Her job title: "bark ranger."
The FBI starts taking animal cruelty seriously
When local law enforcement agencies report crime statistics to the FBI, they put the
offenses in categories.
And for years and years, animal abuse crimes were simply classified under "other."
But that changed this year.
The FBI now has four distinct categories for animal cruelty, which it uses to track animal
abuse the same way it does homicide and other crimes.
In a somewhat related development, more local jurisdictions have begun registering animal
abusers like sex offenders.
Jaguars may be settling in Arizona
It's been a long time since jaguars, the spotted and stocky big cats that roamed much
of the western United States before being hunted to death, made their home here.
But this year, we got two signs that a couple cats from northern Mexico may have decided
to start a new life in the Arizona desert.
The first one to be caught on camera was a sleek male who was dubbed El Jefe.
Several months later, a second male cat was photographed at an army installation, also
in Arizona.
At best, the United States is now home to just two jaguars who can't breed with one
another, and Arizona wildlife officials noted that the closest breeding population is 130
miles south.
But their presence is exciting nonetheless.
Tough new measures to protect the world's most endangered animals
This year's conference of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species,
or CITES, ended in regulations against killing endangered animals and trading their remains.
Among the species with new protections: African gray parrots, pangolins and manta rays.
