US charges Huawei with industrial espionage | DW News - Duration: 4:58.
The announcement was a long time coming, if you believe the rumor mill: The US has officially
accused Chinese telecom giant Huawei of a bevy of crimes.
A grand jury in New York has returning indictment alleging 13 additional crimes committed by
Huawei, it's CFO, its affiliate in Iran and one of its subsidiaries here in the United
States.
The criminal activity alleged in this indictment goes back at least ten years and goes all
the way to the top of the company."
The US justice department accuses Huawei's top brass of using a Hong Kong based shell
company to funnel telecommunications equipment to Iran in violation of international sanctions.
Investigators also accuse Huawei's engineers of stealing trade secrets from cell phone
provider T-Mobile, including robotics plans used in T-Mobile's cellphone testing.
The US' is also seeking the extradition of Huawei CFO MENG WANZHOU for her roll in the
alleged sanction violations.
She was arrested in Canada late last year in connection with the US' investigation.
Huawei has long been suspected of having close ties to the Chinese government.
A cause for concern for some international observers.
However both the company and the Chinese government deny the accusations.
Just as the foreign ministry said, with no evidence, they're using their state power
to discredit and attack designated companies.
This sort of behaviour is unfair and immoral.
The charges are likely to throw a fresh spanner in the works.
Washington and Beijing are set to reopen
trade talks
over
their simmering
trade
conflict later this week.

Rangers transfer news: Rangers make Glen Kamara offer to bring transfer forward - Duration: 1:48.
The midfielder, 23, is already committed to joining Steven Gerrard's team this summer after signing a pre-contract agreement, but the Light Blues hope their cash incentive can get him in the door this week
Dundee boss Jim McIntyre has admitted it would be in all parties' best interests if Finland international Kamara moved this month
McIntyre could use the fee to freshen up his squad as he bids to get them out of the Premiership relegation zone
Rangers are unlikely to go much higher than £50,000 and are prepared to wait until the end of the season to get their man if it is not accepted
Gerrard had initially tried to do a loan swap for Kamara but a deal couldn't be agreed
Dundee turned down several options and were then knocked back when they asked about Ross McCrorie's availability
Kamara, who moved to Dens Park from Arsenal two seasons ago, has not been in the Dark Blues' match-day squad for any of their three games this year
Alfredo Morelos, meanwhile, is unlikely to leave Ibrox this month, despite being an £8million target for Nice
The French club's valuation is well below what Gers would be prepared to accept for their top scorer, who is also being monitored by clubs in England

US NEWS | Opinion Dont Be a Spoiler, Mr. Schultz The New York Times
Two readers urge the former Starbucks C.E.O. not to run as an independent.
To the Editor:
Re news article, Jan. 28 :
By now Howard Schultz should have learned that third party or independent candidates can only be spoilers, not presidents. If this self proclaimed lifelong Democrat really wants to bring his own ideological vision to the White House, he should run as a Democrat.
Donald Trump became president by conquering the Republican Party. If Mr. Schultz is serious, he should follow suit by trying to win his partys nomination through the Democratic primaries. If he doesnt like what his party stands for, he should fight to change it, not abandon it.
Steven W. SindingBondville, Vt.
To the Editor:
Regarding Howard Schultzs possible independent run for president, I have two thoughts: Ralph Nader and Jill Stein. Imagine, in 2000, if wed elected a president who believed in forceful action against climate change and didnt believe in weapons of mass destruction? Imagine, in 2016, well ... enough said.
I once heard the great historian David McCullough say, Learning history is an antidote to the hubris of the present. Mr. Schultz, for the good of the planet, get over yourself.
