Arsenal looked set for a quiet end to the January window with little progress made towards deals for Denis Suarez and James Rodriguez
But over the weekend Perisic emerged as an option for Raul Sanllehi and co. with a loan approach made to Inter Milan
Arsenal have until Thursday to agree a move for the Croatia international, who was previously in Manchester United's cross hairs
However, it seems the Gunners will have to take on 29-year-old Perisic full-time in order to secure his services
Sky Sport Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio claims Arsenal offered Inter an initial loan fee of £4
3m (€5m), with a £34.6m (€40m) summer switch then on the cards. Inter Milan, though, are only willing to let Perisic leave on a permanent basis before the end of the January transfer window
On Sunday, Inter chief Giuseppe Marotta admitted Perisic, who was on the bench against Torino, is angling to leave the San Siro
"We have to live with a situation that many clubs have in this period, which is players who express their desire for a transfer," Marotta said
"We listened to the player, he has this desire. "We want to make him happy, but also have to consider what is best for us
"So far, no suitable offers have arrived, so we will wait." Arsenal will be hoping they can come to a compromise with Inter, who will no doubt not want an unhappy player on their books
The Serie A giants, meanwhile, have lined up Rodrigo de Paul as a potential replacement for Perisic
And they will hold a meeting with Udinese to discuss the Argentine on Monday. Inter were initially planning to get De Paul on board at the end of the season
But the deal could be brought forward if Arsenal manage to prise Perisic away from them
