We know that pharmacological sedation is essential

for a large number of patients admitted in an intensive care unit, simply to allow adaptation

to artificial ventilation commonly used for those patients,

and thus to limit the agitation,

and allow treatment gestures in good conditions for safety and comfort of the patient.

We found that with the clinical sedation scores

we usually used, it was difficult

to get close enough to the optimal sedation depth.

In general, the sedation level is either insufficient,

or often, too prolonged.

Therefore, we have developed a tool

based on artificial intelligence, which uses

the usual monitoring data that every patient has,

to display a continuous, permanent index.

Based on that index we can adapt our sedation level.

From there, we control the sedation according to what the algorithm

called "SEDREA" - tells us.

The advantage of this sedation-monitoring tool is that it can be easily integrated

into the existing monitoring systems. There is no need to add anything other than a tablet and an algorithm

that should reduce

the length of stay in intensive care, avoiding too prolonged sedation,

and thus reduce costs due to hospitalization period.

In the future, we hope for the monitoring tool

to ensure a more precise regulation of the sedation

and an enhanced follow-up

of patients during their stay in intensive care units.
