Waching daily May 15 2017

Welcome to Bar Academy News, the only show on the bartending industry.

Today with us, Marco Polo of rum,

Nikos Arvanitis.

-Hi. -How are you, Nikos?

I'm fine. I'm having a great time.

What have you been doing lately?

I recently came back from the Caribbean, where I stayed for seven months.

I came back in order to travel in Europe and Greece

-to talk about rum. -Great.

It's time for the news of the week. You'll tell us about rum later.

-Are they five? -They're six.

But I've written number 5 twice.

From the West Indies to the World, a seminar by Bar Academy.

Aegean Cocktails and Spirits. Bar Engage.

Diplomatico World Tournament. Athens Fine Drinking, by World Class.

And Angus Winchester seminar.

The first news will be presented by Nikos.

You'll understand why.

From this month on, we're beginning a cooperation with Bar Academy

focused on the Caribbean spirit, rum.

We will regularly do nice things in Athens and Thessaloniki about rum.

We'll start from the basics, the development and history of rum.

Soon, the masterclass dates will be announced,

where we will focus on more technical issues about rum,

its categorization centred around distillation,

with information from the gurus of rum abroad

and the biggest rum festivals in the world.

The purpose is for all bartenders in my country to find out

the truth about the spirit we love: rum.

One more success by Bar Academy.

We should mention this too.

Let's go to the next news, Aegean Cocktails and Spirits Workshop.

For the first time in Greece, an event that will promote Greek products abroad

by Difford's Guide.

For three days, in Tinos, at Tinos Food Paths,

Greek and foreign bartenders join powers for unique discussions on Greek spirits

and Mediterranean cocktails.

We are happy to have some footage from Tinos.

Hello. We are in Tinos.

It's the third day of the first Aegean Cocktails and Spirits Festival

by Difford's Guide. I'm Eleni Nikoloulia.

-Denny Kallivoka. -We are very happy to be here.

Fortunately, the weather is perfect.

The best bartenders in the world are here.

When we tried a tsipouro,

we wondered why this great spirit with the wonderful flavours

is not offered at bars.

And we started thinking about how we could make that happen.

In a tasting even two days ago, they all thought it was premium pisco.

This is how the idea of Aegean Cocktails and Spirits began.

Steve Olson said that tsipouro is the most underestimated spirit of the world.

For three days, we have been talking about Greek spirits

that are worth being introduced to bars.

For more information, visit diffordsguide.com.

Third news for this week. In Larisa, for the second year in a row,

Bar Engage Αγκαζέ is held.

He scared me.

The biggest cocktail festival with guest bartendings and special events.

Guest bartenders from Paris, London and Greek bars,

and five bars from the World's 50 Best Bars list,

in seven days, in beautiful Larisa.

I didn't get to go. But you did, as I found out.

I went there and we talked about Barbados and Saint Lucia rums.

One of the people that contributed to this event will talk to us.

Sullivan Doh.

My love with Greece started in 2012,

when I met Alexis Patsouras, Alexandros Sakellaris and Giorgos Vlachoulis,

in Paris.

So, we started a relation

and they invited me in 2014 in Larisa.

That was the first time in my life I was in Greece.

I know Larisa is not the first city you go when you go to Greece.

But it made me understand what the concept of filoxenia is,

because the people there were just amazing.

I had one of the best times in my life.

And, in order to make this experience shared,

with Aristotelis, a bartender in Larisa

that I took in Paris, to my bar, Le Syndicat,

we organised the first edition of Bar Engage, a year later,

and the partnership was the Kintsugi Project, Stefanos Draganidakis and Giannis Samaras,

in all the city of Larisa.

This year, within the second edition, we invited five bartenders from Paris

and five bartenders from London.

It gets bigger and bigger with the years coming.

I love you, Greece.

Next news, the happy news of the week.

In the Southern Europe final of the World Tournament of Diplomatico,

the winner is Lefteris Broupis.

Well done, Lefteris.

The bartender from beautiful Chania took the first place.

We'll say this again and again. Nothing is accidental in Greek bartending.

Good luck in the final in London, Lefteris.

Good luck, my friend.

Diplomatico, a rum from Venezuela.

-Have you been to Venezuela this year? -No, I haven't.

Things are not good in this beautiful country.

There are some problems that make travelling there difficult.

How did you start travelling?

Four years ago, I woke up one morning, packed my things and left.

-And I just got carried away. -It's nice getting carried away in such places.

It's nice having short memory in the tropical zone of the West Indies.

And what's your next trip?

I'll travel to beautiful Haiti in the near future.

One more exclusive piece of news from Bar Academy News.

The bartending fest continues in May.

On May 18 and 21, Athens Fine Drinking by World Class,

in the old Stock Exchange building. The biggest pop-up bar.

Premium spirits, perfect serve, fine drinking.

The fifth and last news for this week.

The Profitable Bar Management seminar, by Angus Winchester.

One of the most famous personalities of global bartending,

Angus Winchester, on May 30, in Athens,

on May 31, in Thessaloniki,

Bar Academy will hold a special and innovative seminar.

Book now. A competition is on, in the last episode of Bar Academy News.

You have time, it's still on.

We'll be here. Don't miss it.

The semifinals of Skinos Mediterranean Cocktail Team Challenge are underway.

We're looking forward to see the teams for the final.

Good luck to you all.

-We forgot something. -The video of the week.

The video from the great Bar Engage event in Larisa.

Watch it in the comments below.

Description, Video of the week.

One more Bar Academy News is consigned to the dustbin of history.

Nikos, thank you for being here.

-You're welcome. -Where did this come from?

I brought it with a new flair technique that I learned in Saint Lucia.

Sliding on the table?

Look, it's not that easy.

OK. You have to come to a flair seminar.

Yes.

Foursquare Rum. Thank you very much.

It was bottled by Velier House.

It was distilled in Foursquare Distillery, on the island of Barbados.

It is a very promising rum in the world of rum.
