Welcome to the Mundo Misterioso channel, I'm Tom, and today you're going to learn about a
case where the American army attacked an alleged unidentified flying object in
a crowded city, watch now, in Casos Misteriosos.
This case happened in the American city of Los Angeles in the year 1942, and became known
as the Battle of Los Angeles ...
During the night between February 24 and 25 of that year, the electric power had been
cut off and the city's warning sirens had struck, signaling an enemy attack, noting
that at the time, the United States had just entered the second world war due
to the Pearl Harbor attack, so naturally, with the sound of the sirens and in the dark, the population
panicked, even because, strategically the city was one of the most viable targets for
an attack by the Japanese.
This photograph taken that night and published in a newspaper the next day, sums up well what
happened.
The armed forces that were stationed in the city, spotted a supposed flying object
in the skies, directed the headlights to the object and began firing with powerful
anti-aircraft artillery.
According to witnesses, there were no clouds in the sky that night, and the terrified
people said they saw the artillery shells hit a solid target but that could only be
noticed when the projectiles collided with the alleged object.
This event happened in fact and was confirmed by the American military, in total
there was fired about 1500 projectiles and the attack lasted for about an hour.
The city suffered a lot of damage, two people died because of accidents that
occurred in the panic, which had taken over the city, and houses and cars
were damaged because of the projectiles that fell from the sky, many were also
injured because of it.
Initially, the military claimed that the object in the sky would have indicated an attack
by the Japanese, but after, only claimed that it was a false alarm.
There are people who believe that what was seen in the sky could be a weather balloon,
but it is hard to imagine that it would take about 1,500 anti-aircraft projectiles and an
hour to shoot down a balloon.
And for a lot of people, what happened was actually the appearance of an extraterrestrial spacecraft
that would have invaded the city's airspace, claiming it was inconceivable that a
trained military force would open fire that way without being sure that in fact there was a
solid, threatening target in the sky, noting that the risks of the population being damaged
by the projectiles were obvious and the decision to open fire would not be taken lightly.
Now if it really was an alien spacecraft, they certainly did not like the more than warmly reception
and simply disappeared, since after the event, no wreckage was found
on the ground, other than artillery shells.
And then, this was the well-known battle of Los Angeles.
