Hello, I'm Dr. Vladislav GYEBNAR plastic and reconstructive surgeon

I will present to you today a technique for closure of defect

following a large lower lip tumor surgical excision

The excised area had 4 centimetres in length

and has occupied about 50% of the lower lip,

fact that required the use of specific techniques of reconstructive surgery in order to close the defect

The loss of substance created by the tumor and the safety surgical margins

exceeds the possibility of direct closure of the defect

Abbe flap is the solution I have chose

This method fills the defect of the lower lip using a part of the upper lip

This requires two surgeries

In the first stage, a flap from the upper lip is partly detached and rotated into the defect from the lower lip

the two lips remaining attached to each other for three weeks

In the second surgery the pedicle is divided and the flap inset and the two lips are separated

During the three weeks the oral feeding is possible and the talking is a little more difficult
