Trump Wants Fast Decision On Comey Replacement - Here Are The 11 Candidates

by Tyler Durden

Donald Trump said he expects to make a "fast decision" on a replacement for fired FBI Director

James Comey, perhaps before he departs the U.S. on May 19 for his first foreign trip

as president.

Trump said the candidates under consideration to lead the FBI - White House officials have

identified 11 of them so far - are "outstanding people."

He said most are "very well known" and of the "highest level."

As Bloomberg reports, the 11 candidates under consideration as a permanent replacement for

Comey:

SEN.

JOHN CORNYN

Cornyn is the No. 2 Senate Republican and a former Texas attorney general and state

Supreme Court justice.

He has been a member of the Senate GOP leadership team for a decade and serves on the Senate

Judiciary Committee.

In the aftermath of Comey's dismissal, Cornyn said Trump was "within his authority" to fire

him and said it would not affect the investigation of possible Russian ties to Trump's presidential

campaign.

REP.

TREY GOWDY

The South Carolina Republican is best known for leading the congressional inquiry into

the deadly attacks on a U.S. facility in Benghazi, Libya, a panel that oversaw a lengthy grilling

of Hillary Clinton in 2015.

A former federal prosecutor and state attorney, Gowdy was elected to Congress in the 2010

tea party wave and has focused on law enforcement issues.

He originally endorsed Florida Sen. Marco Rubio for president before backing Trump in

May 2016.

FORMER REP.

MIKE ROGERS

Rogers is the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

He served Michigan in Congress for more than a decade before stepping down in 2015.

Rogers worked for the FBI as a special agent based in Chicago in the 1990s and briefly

advised Trump's transition team on national security issues.

His name was floated as a possible replacement for then-FBI Director Robert Mueller in 2013,

and he received support from an association of FBI agents before President Barack Obama

chose Comey.

RAY KELLY

Kelly was commissioner of the New York City Police Department for more than a decade,

serving two mayors.

In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, he created the first counterterrorism bureau of any municipal

police department and oversaw a drastic reduction in crime.

But Kelly also came under fire for his use of aggressive police tactics, including a

program that spied on Muslims and a dramatic spike in the use of stop-and-frisk, which

disproportionately affected non-white New Yorkers.

J. MICHAEL LUTTIG

Luttig, the general counsel for Boeing Corp., is viewed as a conservative legal powerhouse

from his tenure as a judge on the 4th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and his time as a Justice

Department lawyer.

He was considered for two U.S. Supreme Court vacancies that went to Chief Justice John

Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito.

Luttig clashed with the Bush White House on a prominent terror case, rebuking the administration

for its actions in the case involving "enemy combatant" Jose Padilla.

LARRY THOMPSON

A deputy attorney general under President George W. Bush, Thompson served as the department's

No. 2 from 2001 to 2003.

Among his most high-profile actions was allowing Syrian-born Canadian citizen Maher Arar to

be deported to Syria, where he was tortured, after being falsely named as a terrorist.

Thompson also served as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia and held

several high-level positions at PepsiCo.

PAUL ABBATE

Abbate is a senior official at the FBI, currently responsible for the bureau's criminal and

cyber branch.

He previously led FBI field offices in Washington, one of the agency's largest, and in Detroit.

He's been deeply involved for years in FBI efforts to fight terrorism, serving in supervisory

roles in Iraq and Afghanistan and later overseeing FBI international terrorism investigations

as a section chief.

He's been with the FBI for more than 20 years, and is one of the FBI officials who interviewed

this week for the role of interim director.

ALICE FISHER

Currently a partner at the law firm Latham & Watkins specializing in white-collar criminal

and internal investigations, Fisher formerly served as assistant attorney general for the

Criminal Division of the Justice Department.

Fisher faced resistance from Democrats during her confirmation over her alleged participation

in discussions about detention policies at the Guantanamo Bay facility in Cuba.

She also served as deputy special counsel to the Senate special committee that investigated

President Bill Clinton's Whitewater scandal.

If selected, she would be the bureau's first female director.

ANDREW MCCABE

A Duke-educated lawyer, McCabe was named last year as the FBI's deputy director, the No.

2 position in the bureau, overseeing significant investigations and operations.

Since joining the FBI more than 20 years ago, he's held multiple leadership positions, including

overseeing the FBI's national security branch and its Washington field office.

McCabe became acting director after Comey was fired, but has shown a repeated willingness

to break from White House explanations of the ouster and its characterizations of the

Russia investigation.

MICHAEL GARCIA

A former New York prosecutor, Garcia has served as an associate judge on the New York Court

of Appeals the state's highest court since early 2016.

He served as the U.S. attorney in Manhattan from 2005 to 2008, and previously held high-level

positions in the Commerce Department, the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland

Security.

JOHN SUTHERS

A former U.S. attorney and Colorado attorney general, Suthers was elected mayor of Colorado

Springs in 2015.

He is widely respected among state law enforcement and many Colorado Democrats.

Suthers was inspired to become a prosecutor after he spent part of an internship in the

Colorado Springs district attorney's office watching the trial of a gang of soldiers convicted

of killing various citizens, including actor Kelsey Grammer's sister, during a crime spree

in the 1970s.

Four candidates - Texas Sen. John Cornyn, acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, attorney

Alice Fisher and judge Michael Garcia - have interviews scheduled Saturday.

Right now, John Cornyn is the front-runner at

the bookies (but marginally)...

Camp Lejeune Receives Award for Installation Excellence - Duration: 3:14.

Camp Lejeune Receives Award for Installation Excellence

Camp Lejeune has been named a recipient of the 2017 Commander in Chief's Annual Award for Installation Excellence.

Camp Lejeune has been named a recipient of the 2017 Commander in Chiefs Annual Award for Installation Excellence, according to announcement by Secretary of Defense James Mattis.

The award recognizes five military installations each year that are selected for their support of Department of Defense missions, according to information from the Defense Department.

Lejeune and its team remained responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars, citing the bases move toward responsible energy consumption and how the base manages its infrastructure, said Brig. Thomas Weidley said in an email to The Daily News.

Though these fiscally constrained times have been challenging for the base, the Camp Lejeune team demonstrated a tremendous ability to adapt and overcome by thinking creatively across the spectrum to ensure we remained responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars, Weidley said in the email.

Camp Lejeune was considered in 2016 for the same award but was named runner up, according to the Marine Corps website. The winning installation will also receive:.

An inscribed installation excellence trophy for permanent retention. An installation excellence flag. A congratulatory letter signed by the President of the United States. And Operations and Maintenance monetary incentive bonus authorized by the Commandant of the Marine Corps, with restrictions.

The installations compete on how well they achieve departmental objectives in areas such as management including mission support, energy conservation, quality of live and unit morale, environmental stewardship, real property management, safety, health and security, communications and public relations.

Every activity we perform on this base underwent an exhaustive analysis to make sure we continued to provide top-notch support to the operating forces and did it smartly and efficiently, Weidley wrote.

The award, he said, is a reflection of the teams commitment to the base. I couldnt be more proud of how our team performed this year, Weidley wrote.

Band of Brothers: 3 Siblings Graduating from West Point - Duration: 6:44.

Band of Brothers: 3 Siblings Graduating from West Point

Brothers Noah, Sumner and Cole Ogrydziak entered West Point's grueling world on the same day four years ago.

— Brothers Noah, Sumner and Cole Ogrydziak entered West Points grueling world of 6:30 a.m.

reveille, 60-pound packs and rigorous course loads on the same day four years ago. The three cadets are now preparing to fling their caps together at graduation this month, marking a rare fraternal trifecta at this storied academy.

The band of brothers from Nederland, Texas, will graduate with the U.S. Military Academys Class of 2017 on May 27.

The first duty stations for the future Army officers are still being worked out, but its clear to the brothers that their years of being just a short march from one another are numbered.

Its kind of surreal to think that, Hey, all three of us actually made it here and were kind of living our dreams, doing what we want to do, Sumner said. well be going off to our own separate duty stations..

Cole and Sumner are 21-year-old twins. They are not identical but share the steady posture, close-cropped hair and old-school courtesy common among cadets.

Older brother Noah just turned 23 and spent a year at West Points prep school before entering the academy along with the twins on July 1, 2013.

Cole compares their West Point experience to having automatic friends. They got used to snowy northeastern winters together, learned how to stand in formation and maneuver in the field.

They share the nickname O.G., which is easier for fellow cadets to say than Ogrydziak (pronounced oh-GREE-zee-ak).

But the Ogrydziaks are in different regiments and take different classes. They are three in a sea of 4,400 gray-clad cadets walking briskly among the imposing stone buildings here.

Brotherly connections come when Cole asks Noah for help with a computer course or they share a pizza on the weekend.

Every so often Ill see them during the day. But well try to eat dinner at nights together, and especially on weekends well get together and watch a movie. Thats always pretty fun, Noah said.

The last time three siblings graduated West Point together was 1985, when twins Rose and Anne Forrester became officers at the same time as their older brother, John.

Its not clear how many other times three siblings have graduated together since the academy was established in 1802.

Less rare are cases in which three siblings simply attend West Point at the same time. The graduating class this year also includes Arianna Efaw, the third of three sisters from Denver to graduate here since 2014.

The three sisters overlapped here for a year.

Sumners assigned Army branch is engineers, and hes headed to South Korea. Cole is headed to a medical school to become a doctor and Noah will be in Signal Corps, and they do not yet know their destinations.

But its likely they will be scattered around the globe for at least the next several years.

I cant speak for my brothers, but if we stay in seven to 10 years, I think theres a good chance that we might end up picking the same duty station, Sumner said.

Maybe because we both want to go there or live together, or at least close by..

West Point has lost about 100 graduates in the war on terror since Sept. Some of those deaths were announced in the cadet mess hall since the Ogrydziaks became cadets.

The brothers, who are from a military family, shrug off questions about potential dangers ahead.

Their mother, Kristine, served in the Coast Guard for 10 years, and their father, Randal, is a Coast Guard captain who is retiring next month after 38 years of service.

The oldest Ogrydziak brother, 26-year-old Vaughn, is a chemical engineer in the private sector. Back in Nederland, the parents are full of pride for their youngest sons but understand the dangers.

Ah boy, as a service member, Im proud of them because I know they will do their best, they will give it their all, serve their country, and live up to core values of the Army: honor, respect and devotion to duty, said Randal Ogrydziak.

And Kristine and I pray to God theyre kept out of harms way.. Randal is retiring in June, but not before performing one more heartfelt duty.

After graduation, the family will gather somewhere on West Point for the traditional pinning ceremony. Randal will exercise his privilege as a commissioned officer to personally give his sons their oaths.

The parents will place second lieutenant bars on each of their boys shoulders. Hell be our first salute, too, Sumner said. And I couldnt be more happy..

WWE Injury Update, MAJOR Bullet Club News At Ring Of Honor! | WrestleTalk News May 2017 - Duration: 4:51.

Hello and welcome to the WrestleTalk News!

I'm Oli Davis.

One of WWE's most gruelling annual schedules - the promotion's tour of Europe, running

24 shows in 14 different countries over just 11 days - has finally come to an end, and

the rather tired WWE wrestlers are getting some well deserved rest, by becoming half

human/half blanket hybrids.

AJ Styles posted that Charlotte photo on Instagram, sparking a war with the former 228 time Women's

Champion, who quickly retorted with The Phenomenal One's much less graceful sleeping pose.

As the exhausted Raw roster will be heading straight into action this evening, expect

the in-ring action to be slightly sloppy, and the average match time to be even shorter

than usual.

But at least we'll get to see what direction WWE is heading in with Braun Strowman now

no longer facing Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire because of injury.

Strowman was written of television last Monday following a chair attack from Roman Reigns,

and will reportedly undergo minor surgery for issues with his elbow, keeping him out

of action for between 4-8 weeks.

Braun has since shared an inspirational message on Instagram to all those budding Monsters

Among Men: "I will return to finish what I've started

and that's carving my name in history as the most destructive thing #WWE has ever seen.

This surgery is just a minor speed bump I will return bigger stronger faster and even

more dangerous than ever mark my words I'm the definition of unstoppable!!! #braunstrowman

#monsteramongmen #nothingcankeepmedown" That's how you present a monster heel!

Great job, WWE.

The ambulance deadlift, the ring break - I didn't think it was possible, but Vince

McMahon has managed to make me forget all about the Wonder Braun photo.

Oh, Braun's posted something else.

I've got a Google alert set up for him.

"This moment right here I forgot I was injured for these few precious moments I had no pain

for the joy of not only seeing my little sister but being able to share my life with her and

for her to see what I love and do and for us to be able to share this in London England

of all places because we usually only see each other once a year because we are both

very busy with our lives I'm so glad that you were able to share this with me @hannahrs22

I'm so proud of you and the young woman you have grown up to be.

I love you.

#weregiants" I have to admit, that's actually really

sweet.

But...oh god, no...I'm getting flashbacks!

No!

I thought I'd buried these images.

He's meant to be a monster!

No...it's coming...not Wonder Braun...No.

NOOOOOOOO.

He's back.

During the European tour, Emma appeared to injure her shoulder after landing awkwardly

at last Sunday's show in Liverpool, England.

The match was quickly finished, Emma was helped to the back and later flew home early.

Thankfully, going by her latest Instagram post, it looks like she won't have to undergo

surgery once again: "Rehabbed the shoulder today...

Plenty more to be done, but I got this!

Whatever it takes!

BICEP CURL EMOJI!"

Increasing speculation that Adam Cole (BAYBAY!) is on his way to WWE, the first ever three-time

ROH World Champion was kicked out of the Bullet Club at Friday night's War of the Worlds

iPPV, just like AJ Styles a year and a half ago.

Kenny Omega was again the ring leader, appearing in a pre-taped video at the end of Cole's

match against Hiroshi Tanahashi, saying that while every story must have a hero, it must

also have...a villain, unveiling my favourite wrestler in the world right now - Marty Scurll

- as the Club's newest addition.

I lost my s-word.

Scurll appeared behind Cole in the ring, opening his trademark umbrella to reveal the Bullet

Club logo, and - with the Young Bucks' help - proceeded to beat down the man he replaced.

That this was effectively the angle to write Cole off Ring of Honor television, with the

preceding match and celebration acting like his farewell, this all but confirms he's

on his way to WWE.

If only there was an NXT TakeOver in somewhere like Chicago this weekend where he could show

up sitting at ringside.

Randy Orton, TJP, Bubba Ray Dudley and more have been involved in a Twitter bust-up, and
