Arsenal sources disclosed this week that the club were looking to sign the Croatian

In-the-know BBC Sport journalist David Ornstein broke the news on Saturday, tweeting: "Arsenal have made an approach to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic

"#AFC want loan with £35m option to buy. 29yo open to #Inter exit. Fits plan of versatile midfielder e

g. Suarez (still possible) / Nkunku + winger." The 6ft 1in winger has become a consistent performer for the Nerazzurri over the last four seasons and played a starring role during Croatia's surge to the 2018 World Cup final, during which he scored against England in the semi-finals

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho expressed interest in bringing the 29-year-old to Old Trafford last summer, but was not leveraged the £48million fee which Inter reportedly dropped on their man, whose contract expires in June 2022

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has made clear his desire to bring a versatile winger into the squad with Barcelona's Denis Suarez a prime target

But with attention switching to the more proven Perisic, it seems the Gunners are having no more luck

Sky Italia reported on Sunday afternoon that Inter have rejected an offer from Arsenal to loan Perisic to north London until the end of the season, with an option to buy in the summer transfer window

It is believed the loan would cost Arsenal £4.3m (€5m), with the chance to acquire Perisic on a full-time contract for £34

5m (€40m). Arsenal manager Unai Emery revealed earlier this month that the club cannot purchase any players during January, saying: "We cannot sign permanently

"We can only loan players. I know the club is working on possibilities of which players can help us with big performances like we need now

I cannot say more."  Inter manager Luciano Spalletti was coy when asked about Perisic during a press conference on Saturday

"He's always spoken about during the transfer window because he's a good player who everyone would like to have in their team," Spalletti said

"As a player, he knows what his job is and he expects to keep doing what he's always done

Great news for Chelsea: out-of-contract Blues star close to signing contract extension - Duration: 1:44.

Chelsea have been handed some good news, after it was noted that Brazilian defender David Luiz has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the club

According to Goal Brazil, Luiz has 'accepted' a new contract with the club, one that will tie him down until the summer of 2020, with it also being noted that the Brazilian is close to signing this new deal with the club

The report also notes that Luiz's current deal with the club is set to run out at the end of the season, something that will make this news even more welcome

Luiz has been great for Chelsea this season, with manager Maurizio Sarri opting to go with a centre back partnership of him and Antonio Rudiger for a large number of the club's fixtures

The Brazilian's consistent performances for the west London side may have played a part in the club's decision to tie the player down to a new deal

Luiz looks set to agree to a contract extension with Chelsea following this report  Chelsea fans will surely be delighted with this news, as they'd hate to see a player of Luiz's quality leave for absolutely nothing in the summer, and tying him down to a new deal is a decision that most fans will deem the right one for the club to make

If this report is anything to go off, it seems like we're set to see Luiz remain at Chelsea for at least another season, a sight that will surely bring smiles to the faces of the club's fans

Tottenham news: Why Christian Eriksen missed FA Cup clash with Crystal Palace - Duration: 2:20.

Express Sport understands Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in signing the Danish playmaker

However, Pochettino outlined his decision to leave Eriksen out of the matchday squad today was purely down to fitness

"Christian Eriksen is rested today because he is so tired," he told BT Sport. Real Madrid were also said to be tracking the Spurs star but they are ready to end their interest and turn their attention to Eden Hazard

Hazard is out of contract at Chelsea at the end of next season so could be available at a knockdown price in the summer as the Blues risk losing him on a free at the end of 2019-20

However, Eriksen will not want for other potential suitors, with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain also thought to be keen

Pochettino has previously made it clear that he would like to keep Eriksen at the club but he earns far less than Harry Kane and Dele Alli, who are the club's highest earners

"Christian is a very special person and you need to give him freedom, like on the pitch," Pochettino said

"You cannot put him in a box. You need to give freedom and trust him. Like my dog, in the park

I trust my dog. I say, 'Go, I trust you'. "And Christian is a very clever person and of course there's going to be a decision from him, from the club, from different parts and I hope he can be committed to the club long-term

"We hope that he can be here for a long time. I think Christian is a fantastic player

"Like I explained a few weeks ago, in football it's about timings, negotiations, different parties and how they feel

"Of course, it's his right to wait, to sign this week or in six months, to have different dreams and challenges

"For me, it's not a point to discuss. He's committed to us, he's playing so well

I'm so happy with him."

US NEWS | Roger Stone does not rule out cooperation with Robert Mueller Politics - Duration: 1:08.

US NEWS | Roger Stone does not rule out cooperation with Robert Mueller Politics

Asked on ABCs "This Week" about the chances he would cooperate with Mueller, Stone said his attorneys would need to discuss the subject but contended he would testify honestly about any wrongdoing that may have occurred.

"If theres wrongdoing by other people in the campaign that I know about which I know of none but, if there is, I would certainly testify honestly," Stone said. "I would also testify honestly about any other matter, including any communications with the President. Its true that we spoke on the phone, but those communications are political in nature."

Stone was indicted on Thursday by a federal grand jury in Washington on seven counts and on Friday morning in Florida. Mueller alleged in the indictment that Stone sought stolen emails from WikiLeaks in coordination with Trump campaign officials.

Stone that he would plead not guilty and would not "bear false witness against the President."

Asked then if he was cooperating with the special counsel, Stone said, "I dont want to address that question, but I have made it clear I will not testify against the President, because I would have to bear false witness against him."

In Sundays interview, Stone echoed Trump in his attacks on the special counsel investigation and denied any "conspiracy with Russia."

Stone also said Trump had never suggested pardoning him.

"I have never discussed a pardon," Stone said. "The only person that I have advocated a pardon for, as we have discussed previously, is a posthumous pardon for Marcus Garvey."

Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp ready to bite bullet with Ben Woodburn exit - Duration: 3:18.

The 19-year-old spent the first half of the campaign at Sheffield United and struggled

He made just eight appearances for the Blades. Jurgen Klopp, however, wants him to have another crack at the second tier

The Sun say Nigel Adkins is keen for Woodburn to strut his stuff at the KCOM Stadium Klopp admitted the Welsh forward needs games under his belt

He told Liverpool's website: "Ben Woodburn is an outstanding talent, still pretty much a kid, and I am happy to see him here, running around, completely fit and really settled in the squad

"In the summer, I think he lost a bit of patience and it was really long he was already with us

"The first-team situation didn't really change and then you maybe - and it's normal and can happen - lose patience

"Then you have a rather average experience at another club and you come back and see here everything is still like it was before

"Now he trained [on Friday] for the first time so I think if something happens with a loan, then it will happen at the end of the week

"We will really try to give him as many sessions as possible so if he goes somewhere, he is really in a good situation

" Hull are mid-table in the Championship and sit in 12th. But given the competitive nature of the league, they are just six points off the final play-off spot

"We looked at getting a centre-half in this week, we talked about it and I know the importance of it," Adkins told the Hull Daily Mail

"We've got to do everything we can to make sure we strengthen before the window shuts on Thursday

"I was hoping to get a deal done before this game. That's still alive, a centre-half

"This is a week where a lot of things intensify but we need to bring players in. "I've highlighted that and the centre-half position becomes even more important with us losing Jordy, Reece and Ondrej

"We need to bring another centre-half in or two. We've been working on things to cover the situation

"We need one who can play right here, right now, who's up to speed with the Championship

"That's what we've been working on and maybe an experienced one who might need a couple of weeks to get up to speed

"
