Breaking News - Sir Alex Ferguson returns to Old Trafford after brain haemorrhage - Duration: 2:08.

Sir Alex Ferguson has returned to Old Trafford for the first time since recovering from brain surgery

The Manchester United icon, 76, underwent emergency surgery back in May following a brain haemorrhage

But, to the delight of the Old Trafford faithful, the Scot was pictured smiling on his first public appearance since the operation at his former haunt ahead of United's clash with Wolves

Since his surgery, he has been steadily recovering at his home in Wilmslow, Cheshire

But he is now well enough to get back to his former haunt and United plan to celebrate the former manager's return, with the club encouraging supporters to be in their seats 15 minutes before kick-off against Wolves

A bona fide great of the game, Ferguson was on Saturday welcomed by fans, who offered their support as he made his way into the Theatre of Dreams

Ferguson, who was the picture of happiness, waved and applauded the well-wishers before entering the famous old ground

During his 26-year tenure at United, Ferguson moulded a succession of outstanding and vaunted teams, winning the Champions League twice, 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups and the European Cup Winners' Cup during his time there between 1986 and 2013

He has subsequently become the club director and ambassador and has a stand and street named in his honour

A statue of the iconic figure is also outside the ground and few could argue there are more iconic figures in football, let alone at United

Real Madrid news: Florentino Perez reveals all on Cristiano Ronaldo exit - Duration: 2:42.

The Portuguese star left the Bernabeu for Juventus in a £100m transfer which stunned the footballing world

However, club president Florentino Perez has stated he was desperate to keep the forward

The 13-time Champions League winners only let him depart after he declared he wanted to leave for personal reasons

"We did not want to sell him, but he wanted to go for personal reasons," he said

"But we understood that, for all the good things he had done, we had to open the door for him

"We got the highest value we could." At the time of his transfer, Ronaldo admitted he wanted to leave the club, and had submitted a transfer request

"I believe that the time has come to open a new stage in my life and that is why I have asked the club to accept transferring me," Ronaldo wrote in an open letter to fans

"I feel that way and I ask everyone, and especially our followers, to please understand me

" Ronaldo had a €1bn release clause inserted in his contract, though Perez suggested this was never going to be a realistic target

"The release clauses are not there to be paid," he added. "If there has to be a sale, it's negotiated

" Madrid learned their lesson following the transfer of Neymar to PSG, and have now inserted sky-high release clauses in contracts

Karim Benzema has a clause of £886m, while Isco's is £620m. Neymar departed from Spain in 2017 when his £200m release clause was paid by Paris Saint-Germain

Luka Modric, who was linked with a move away from the club in the summer, has a £443m release clause

Chelsea news: Two stars named who will be 'fed up' with Maurizio Sarri - Duration: 2:52.

That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal star Charlie Nicholas

Cahill is yet to feature at all for Chelsea in their seven games in all competitions this season

The centre-back has revealed he will have to consider his future in January if he continues to be out of the team

"For me to do this all season is going to be very difficult," Cahill said.  "I realise sometimes football doesn't wait for people

Sometimes you have to make those decisions to keep going and progressing. "Obviously the most important thing is the club, but I have to look at my situation

"And if I'm sat doing what I'm doing at this moment in time, I just hope that the club will respect that when it comes to the time

" And Nicholas does not think Cahill will be the only one, with Fabregas yet to play in the Premier League this term

"Not just the Cahill thing, but I think people like Fabregas and others will get fed up," he said

"They will get fed up. I don't know that this is the type of club that there will be two or three of them that will accept that situation and the age they also are

" But Nicholas' colleague and former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson says the likes of Cahill and Fabregas must wait for their chance and be ready when it comes

"When a team is winning, I don't care who you are or what a good player you are, you have to just say 'fair play'," Thompson said

"This team's winning constantly. If you're winning, and I know what you're saying about Fabregas and Cahill, but you just have to wait your time

"You've got to be ready when you get that time. It will get tested a bit more. "Their hardest game was the Arsenal game, we said how many chances (Arsenal had), so there will be sterner tests and they will be tested

" Chelsea will look to make it six wins from six in the Premier League when they visit West Ham tomorrow (1

30pm).

Breaking News - Suspended duo Smith & Warner make strong returns to club cricket - Duration: 3:54.

David Warner scored an unbeaten 155 in his side's thrilling last-ball win, while former test captain Steve Smith made 85 for his Sutherland club as the suspended duo enjoyed strong returns to club cricket in Sydney on Saturday

Smith and Warner were banned for a year from international and state cricket for their involvement in a ball-tampering scandal and still have another six months to serve

They are continuing their rehabilitation in the new Sydney club cricket season, which got underway this weekend

The diminutive Warner could not have hoped for a better return, scoring a match-winning knock for Randwick-Petersham, who won by four wickets off the last ball while chasing 278 against St George

The opening batsman carried his bat, his hundred coming off 98 balls in an innings featuring 13 fours and two sixes, including one that went out of the ground

He reached his century with a leg-side single and celebrated the mark as he would in an international match with his trademark leap and kiss of the badge on his helmet

"He played really well and is very good in those type of situations," said former test team mate Josh Hazlewood, who was playing against Warner on Saturday

"We probably beat anyone else today, except David Warner. It was a pretty special knock

" A few miles away at the Glenn McGrath Oval, Smith also looked solid in his 92-ball innings for Sutherland, who went down to Mosman by three wickets

The 29-year-old, who got married this week, received a warm welcome from an unusually large crowd and looked his usual twitchy self at the crease as he rattled off a half century in 62 balls

"When he was batting, everyone was really warm with their support, and to be able to see so many people come to a grade game was incredible," said former Australia and current Sutherland team mate Shane Watson

"It's awesome to see him playing, even though I'd rather he was playing for Australia

The support he got today will reassure him that everything's okay, people do make mistakes and people do forgive very quickly

" Still the number two test batsman in the ICC rankings, Smith's innings included six fours and a six, before he holed out to mid-on and received another ovation as he trudged back to the pavilion

It was all a far cry from the March day when he returned home from South Africa a broken man after the ball-tampering scandal, which also resulted in a nine-month suspension for batsman Cameron Bancroft

Smith repeatedly succumbed to tears at a news conference at Sydney Airport as he apologised for his part in the incident that rocked Australia and also precipitated the departure of coach Darren Lehmann

Their Cricket Australia bans expire on March 28 and it looks like they will be welcomed back into the Australia set up for next year's 50-overs World Cup and Ashes series in England

"If our environment's right and they're playing well, there's no reason they shouldn't be welcomed back in to help us win the World Cup and help us win the Ashes next summer," Lehmann's replacement as coach Justin Langer said this week
