Waching daily Sep 20 2018

Ferdinand's former side Manchester United made it three wins in a row in all competitions, beating Swiss champions Young Boys

A first-half brace from Paul Pogba and one from Anthony Martial sealed a 3-0 victory for the Red Devils

Manchester City on the other hand suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat to Lyon in their Group F opener

Following the games, BT Sport presenter and ex-England striker Gary Lineker assessed the evening's results

"Interesting football, isn't it?" Lineker said. "Going into these games tonight you've got Manchester City flying, generally

"They lose at home to Lyon, Manchester United win away. All of a sudden the world's got a kind of different shade of colour to it

" Ferdinand was in the studio for BT and showed his true colours in response to Lineker

"It's a lovely evening isn't it," Ferdinand jested. The former centre-back's comment caused laughter amongst Lineker and another two ex-United players, Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves

"Careful," Lineker jokingly replied. But Ferdinand then changed his tune, claiming he wants all Premier League sides to succeed in the Champions League

"What we want at the end of the day, we want the English teams to go through," he said

"I think Man City will be alright in that group, they'll go through. Sometimes you need a little bit of a jolt

" Lineker believes there would have been a different reaction if City won and United had lost

"If the results were the other way around, you'd be start talking about a crisis at Manchester United again," the Match of the Day host added

"City have obviously been very dominant so they'll be no talk. "They'll just say 'it's a one off', they just had a bad night

Musk under Investigation, Facebook's Fake-news Victory: The Week in Tech News - Duration: 2:59.

What's up, my name is Michael Nunez!

We're here at the Nasdaq in Times Square,

and this is Technically Speaking.

First up!

Our favorite maniacal billionaire Elon Musk is back in the news.

This time it's because the Justice Department announced on Tuesday that it

has opened an investigation into Elon Musk's electric car company Tesla

for a tweet that he sent out in August.

Elon Musk tweeted last month that he was

considering taking Tesla private at $420 per share and

that he had, quote, "funding secured."

Turns out that wasn't quite true and now the

company he founded is facing a criminal probe over that tweet.

Tesla said last month it received

a, quote, "voluntary request for documents" from the Justice Department,

and that the company, quote, "[respects] the DOJ's desire to get

information and [believes] that the matter should be quickly resolved." But if it's

not, this could spell big trouble for Elon. All this is happening while the SEC

is also investigating Musk for the same tweet about the same claim to take his

company private.

So in sum, if you're a billionaire with a lot of extra time,

maybe try logging off Twitter. It could end up saving you a fortune.

Next up!

Donald Trump is exempting Apple products from new tariffs on Chinese goods.

The Trump administration on Monday slapped tariffs on $200 billion worth of

Chinese imports but gave an exemption to consumer electronics makers like Apple and Fitbit.

While the tariffs will affect a wide range of industries, Apple fans

have been concerned about what Trump's trade war would do to the price of Apple products.

But, at least for now, Tim Cook can breathe a sigh of relief. The trade

department included Apple Watches and AirPods on a list of 300 products

exempt from the tariffs. Whether the exemption lasts remains to be seen, but

Donald Trump appears to be signaling to many US companies that they won't be

making quite as much money as they used to in China.

Unfortunately for gadget fans, that may soon include electronic makers like

Apple and Fitbit.

And finally!

Facebook is at last making progress against fake news.

A study released on Monday from researchers at Stanford and NYU claims

that less reputable sites have been getting substantially less interaction

on Facebook. The study looked at 570 fake news sites on Facebook since 2016, and at

their peak, these sites were receiving 200 million monthly engagements.

But now that number has dropped to just 70 million.

The belief is that this is in

part due to Facebook's gigantic investment in the space.

Following several congressional testimonies this year, Facebook said it

plans to build a permanent workforce of 20,000 to protect against misinformation campaigns.

Though progress has been made, the evidence found in the study is far

from definitive, but it is consistent with the view that the misinformation

problem on Facebook is declining.

But how much? We'll probably learn more after the elections in November.

That's it for this week. Be sure to check out Mashable.com

Arsenal news: Lucas Torreira receives huge praise vs Vorskla - 'He is just what they need' - Duration: 2:42.

Torreira joined Arsenal from Sampdoria in the summer for a fee of around £26million

However, he is yet to make a start in the Premier League, with young French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi starting every game this term

Torreira has impressed off the bench though and was given a long-awaited start against the Ukrainian side in the Europa League tonight

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown was working as a pundit for the match at the Emirates

Keown was impressed by Torreira and claims he is just the type of player they have needed

And he said one moment in particular, where the 22-year-old threw his head into a challenge on the floor, reminded him of himself when he played

"I think he's done okay in there," Keown said on BT Sport. "He's very tenacious and he looks for a pass

You have to be able to do this in the Premier League, certainly in an Arsenal team

"You've got to be able to pass a ball, you've got to be able to make tackles and get around

He's done that. "I thought he was going off at one stage (due to injury). "This (free kick) is a decent effort as well, tests the goalkeeper, keeps him awake

"This one is just, look at this. He throws his head in there. "I have done that. I'd get whatever I could to that ball if I needed too

"Arsenal need a player like that, to show that level of commitment and boss that midfield

" Torreira could make his first Premier League start on Sunday when Everton visit the Emirates (4pm)

Breaking News - Celtic 1-0 Rosenborg: Super-sub Griffiths comes on to rescue Hoops - Duration: 0:48.

Celtic almost failed to break down Rosenborg to open up their Europa League campaign but Leigh Griffiths spared the blushes of the hosts

The first half finished goal-less as the Scottish side failed to convert their abundance of possession into clear-cut chances

Brendan Rodgers made changes after the break, with Scott Sinclair, Michael Johnston and Griffiths coming on to inject some pace and it was the latter who made the decisive intervention

Dedrick Boyata headed the ball to the striker who then nodded home
