There was a split in 1981,
between women and men in HBB (queer organization) because
The men made a statement supporting porn.
They stated that porn was especially good for women.
The women did not want to be part of any of that and burned porn in the city square...
Then we joined.
Some girls founded a women's group in DNF-48 (another queer org.)
We stopped dealing with HBB
because of the porn thing.
The men in DNF-48 certainly was not very progressive either, but they didnt make any statements about porn.
So there was an option to start a women group there.
They might have been there a while, but it was in 1985 ...
When Esther and I came to town, we joined them.
I was part of a group leading the organization.
We had a room in the Ran house.
The North Norway Association owns the house.
It did not take long before we got embrolied in the AIDS problem.
I received a phone from the head of the Northern Norway association.
"I hear you have meetings on Sundays."
"Yes, we have the basement room where we sit ..."
"You have to find another day."
"Oh, why?"
"Well, the restrooms."
"Yes, but it's not so ..."
They also had a meeting on Sundays.
"But there's no queue there," I said.
"Well, you have to find another day."
I thought they believe lesbians are dangerous.
We have aids on our fingers and can leave marks on the toilets.
The ladies were terrified of us.
I did not say anything about it. I just said, "I do not understand this."
"This should not be such a big problem."
But then we were thrown out.
Fear of aids was the reason.
There was so little knowledge about it ...
We should be afraid of them.
They were men. There was a greater chance that they had AIDS.
Then we moved around.
I even managed to trick the priest at the Catholic Church to give us room.
"Who is it ..."
"Well, it's Ingebjørg Jensen and some girls."
Then we had a meeting there.
