Waching daily Sep 2 2018

Last week!

Kian wake up!

We got up really early! It was 03:45 AM

And we are on our way to Neeltje Jans...

to fish for mussels!

Look all the mussels are now coming!

It's so much work before a mussel gets onto your plate.

And now the follow up!

We are now at Yerseke...

where they will take a sample of 2,5 KG...

to see how good the mussels are...

and negotiate the finale price of them.

So we will be docking soon and take the needed sample!

They will take the small sample with the red digger over there.

Now we are on our way to the Mussel Auction to determine the quality of the mussels!

It's over there.

They are now going to check the mussels.

That's our bucket!

Captain: They are 1st going to way them before cleaning!

Captain: When they are clean they will way them again.

Captain: So they know exactly how much they actually got!

Here they will check if they are big enough.

The too small mussels will drop in the right box and the good mussels in the left bucket!

Here are our mussels being ordered by size!

The machine vibrates causing the mussels to climb up and drop one by one onto the beld....

and drop onto this device.

This device opens up, causing the big mussels to go to the end, and the small mussels to drop at the beginning.

So how bigger the mussel the farther away it will go.

They are also being measured and counted here.

Okay the measuring and counting has been done. Now they need to be cooked!

They do this to see how big the actually meat is!

The mussel auction gave us a good price!

Now we are going to deliver the mussels.

Okay. We are now at the place where we are going to deliver a small part of the mussels.

We need to wait for the boat in front of us.

But it really smells bad here, so I'm going inside for now.

Okay we are now going to deliver a couple of mussel tons to a client...

and after this we will deliver the rest of them to another client.

To move the boat you need a motor...

and here you see two big motors!

We are now sowing the rest of the mussels on the clients plot!

This is a small area on the bottom of the sea. It's a temporary storage area.

When needed the client will come and pick it up again with his boat.

It's time to have lunch on board!

Everyone had tasty mussels.

Except me. I had french fries!

That's about it. We are about to get back into the harbour!

Thank you captain!

I can now officially say that I'm a musselman!

That's it for this time!

I hope that you enjoyed it!

I forsure did!

Really cool!

And for now...

See you next sunday!

Special thanks to: Johan, Antoine, Mees and the captain of the BRU36 Marinus.
