Waching daily Jul 30 2018

Arsenal boss Emery wants Ramsey to remain as key member of his squad, even though Chelsea are monitoring the player's signature

The Wales international, who joined from Cardiff City back in 2008, has just 12 months left on his contract and will be sold if he fails to agree an extension

Chelsea reportedly want the Arsenal star and feel a bid of £30million will be enough to lure the player away from north London

However, the Daily Mail claim Emery still expects Ramsey to stay at the Emirates despite there being no breakthrough so far

Arsenal have had a fine transfer window to date, spending big to secure the signatures of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi

Losing Ramsey, though, would be a hammer blow. If he stays, the Arsenal captaincy could beckon

The Gunners are yet to settle on a new leader in the wake of Per Mertesacker's decision to move onto the coaching staff

Arsenal have been in a similar situation before. In January, they were forced to give Alexis Sanchez away for free, with the Chilean moving to Manchester United

Though they received Henrikh Mkhitaryan in return, many Arsenal fans were irked by their failure to gain money from the deal

The Daily Mail say Emery feels Ramsey will stay but the club are demanding the 27-year-old's future resolved by the time the transfer window closes

Meanwhile, the Arsenal star recently opened up on his future, saying: "We'll see what happens, but my agent and the club are talking

"I'm not sure exactly what it hinges on, I'm just leaving it to them to discuss and to figure it out but we are yet to come to an agreement

"That's something that my agent and the club are discussing to try and get something done

Liverpool transfer news: Nicolo Barella update as Reds face four rivals for Cagliari ace - Duration: 4:08.

Jurgen Klopp has been hard at work in the transfer market as he looks to build a side capable of challenging on four fronts

Alisson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri have all been added to the squad which reached the Champions League final last season

Liverpool want further reinforcements though, with a whole host of players still being linked with moves to Merseyside as a result

La Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Velluzzi says Liverpool are interested in prising Barella away from Cagliari

Barella made 34 appearances in Serie A as Cagliari beat the drop at the expense of Crotone last season

And Velluzzi suggests there could be a battle on for the 21-year-old midfielder this summer

"[Cagliari] has understood that it may be the right year to sell him," Velluzzi told RMC Sport

"He was very professional, even if he has not opened his mouth so far, it means that he wants to understand how the situation will be defined

"Inter [Milan] currently does not have an urgent need to try to buy Barella, unless they sell [Matias] Vecino

"There is also Roma at stake, there are also Lyon, Liverpool and perhaps Atletico Madrid

"  While Klopp could bolster Liverpool's midfield with Barella, the German has ruled out signing another defender

"This summer? No," said Klopp, when asked about strengthening at the back. "I'm happy with our players to be honest

I don't see the need. "Joe Gomez brings a lot of things that we don't find on the transfer market to be honest

" Meanwhile, Liverpool play the penultimate game of their pre-season schedule when they take on Napoli on Saturday

And they could go into the season with Daniel Sturridge staying at the club as he looks to put his injury troubles behind him

The 28-year-old's career has been blighted by injuries, the most recent of which was a hamstring problem that limited him to six appearances on loan at West Bromwich Albion in 2018

The England striker has impressed in Liverpool's pre-season matches, however, scoring in a 4-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday that prompted manager Juergen Klopp to say that Sturridge would have a role to play at the club "if he is fit"

"The hunger will never change. I'm taking every day as it comes with a positive mindset

That's all I'm going to do," Sturridge said "Pre-season has been going great but, you know, I'm not getting too carried away

It's just great to be part of the club and helping and making sure that we can win games

"I just want to help the team win something . We have been close before a lot of times

I wasn't here for last season's Champions League (final) but it was so close, so close

Arsenal transfer news: Gunners 'agree' £890,000 fee, contract to be signed in coming days - Duration: 2:37.

The Gunners are in the midst of a squad overhaul which has seen five fresh faces rock up at the Emirates since Unai Emery's appointment

And a clutch of players have called time on their careers in north London too, including Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere

Wilshere looks set to be followed out of the exit door by another Arsenal youth product in the form of Akpom

Greek outlet Sport24 claim Arsenal have agreed a fee of £890,000 (€1m) with PAOK for the 22-year-old forward

Arsenal stand to take a cut of any fee PAOK sell Akpom on for in the future thanks to a clause they've included in the deal

Sport24 indicate Akpom will travel to Thessaloniki in the coming days in order to sign a contract with his prospective new side

The former England Under-21 international is set to leave Arsenal having made 12 first-team appearances since making his debut in 2013

Akpom has since spent time on loan at Brentford, Coventry, Nottingham Forest, Hull, Brighton and Sint-Truiden

Akpom's exit will free up a place in Arsenal's squad which has been bolstered by Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi's arrivals

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol believes Emery's side are someway off being able to compete with the Premier League's best though

"Success would be getting in the top four, no question," said Nicol, reflecting on Arsenal's coming season

"If they get in the top four, they should get a trophy. "They should get one of those trophies that Arsene Wenger said about the top four

"The squad they have right now, even with the signings they've made, in my opinion isn't close to any of the teams that I expect to be in the top four

"
