Contract situation
Anthony Martial signed on a four-year deal, when he arrived in September 2015 in the Premier
League.
The player has a year remaining on his current deal with the club, having an option of an
additional year.
With a number of clubs interested in the player, he could prove to be a highly profitable trade
in such an inflationary market.
However, they can use it to their merits and manipulate any potential buyers into a bidding
war for a promising young talent.
On the other hand, talks of including the player in any deal for Toby Alderweireld have
been understood to likely happen.
Given the fact that United have the option for an additional year, it adds to the player's
value.
The English giants certainly do not have to worry about the player leaving for free any
time soon.
Ed Woodward can get a good deal out of it.
The Red Devils must sell the player for a hefty sum while they still can.
Second.
Inconsistency
Not many United fans might agree to this, given their affection for Martial, but the
player has been heavily inconsistent since arriving in England.
In his 86 league appearances, he has netted 24 goals and provided for another 15.
A valid argument can be made over his playing time, but the player has had sufficient chances
to deliver.
When the team needs him the most, the Frenchman fails to make an impact.
Even when Jose trusted him with a string of starts in late October 2017, Martial barely
contributed to the game.
There are days when the player appears to be sensational, but such a seasonal player
cannot be a guaranteed starter at Manchester United.
On top of that, his agent is keen to get his client a new club only, because he is being
asked to fight for a spot in the starting XI of one of the biggest clubs in football.
First.
Impediment in Rashford's development
The fact that United have the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata sees Anthony
Martial, and Marcus Rashford battle it out for game time.
Jose generally started one of the two before acquiring Sanchez from Arsenal in January.
The Chilean's arrival saw Anthony Martial move to the bench.
Also, Marcus Rashford, who used to come on as a substitute for the Frenchman, did not
feature a lot since then.
In a normal scenario, the manager has to ensure a fair set of opportunities to both.
Clearly, Martial is not happy with the role he has at the club, but Rashford is younger
and willing to fight for more.
Now that Martial is willing to leave, United should not stand in his way.
After his departure, Rashford's game time would increase and he can be expected
to improve.
