Alvaro Morata is set to start up front for Chelsea when they host relegation-threatened Southampton this week
The Spaniard has been out of favour recently following a knee problem but an injury to Olivier Giroud has presented an opportunity to the 26-year-old
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri had suggested he would field Eden Hazard in a 'false nine' role against Crystal Palace but instead opted for Giroud up front during the 1-0 victory
Therefore, Morata could be given a chance to reclaim a starting role in attack with Giroud out for the foreseeable future
The Blues are currently fourth in the Premier League and have a five-point gap over Arsenal
Sarri has resisted rotating his squad despite Chelsea's hectic festive schedule and is expected to field a full-strength XI once again
That means the likes of Hazard and Willian will feature from the off, although the star duo should get a rest in the FA Cup next weekend – especially with matches against Tottenham and Arsenal on the horizon
Pedro remains sidelined with a hamstring injury while Callum Hudson-Odoi is also a doubt
Jorginho and N'Golo Kante should be joined by Mateo Kovacic in central midfield, with the Croatian having missed out in favour of Ross Barkley against Palace
Cesc Fabregas, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Danny Drinkwater were all carrying knocks at the weekend and it remains to be seen whether any of the trio are fit enough to be considered
Meanwhile, Andreas Christensen is nearing a return from a hamstring problem but is unlikely to start unless Sarri surprisingly rests either David Luiz or Antonio Rudiger
Southampton head into the match on the back of home defeats to West Ham and Manchester City, although both results and performances have improved under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl
Chelsea predicted line-up vs Southampton (4-3-3): Arrizabalaga; Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso; Jorginho, Kante, Kovacic; Willian, Hazard, Morata
