Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has hit back at France Football Federation president Noel Le Graet after he claimed that the national team had moved on from him
Benzema hasn't played for France since 2015 against Armenia following controversial blackmail claims involving compatriot Mathieu Valbuena
Despite his strong form for Spanish giants Real Madrid over the years, Benzema has been overlooked and again missed out on France's World Cup squad in Russia
And the president of FFF, Le Graet, who has in the past been one of the few individuals backing Benzema, has now made it clear that the squad must look to the future and forget about him
'This is an old story, and we can't go back,' he explained to L'Equipe. 'Everyone agrees that he's a great player, he's always a starter with Real Madrid, but with France, he's part of the history
'Our team now has a certain style, and we can't go back on that.' And after hearing of these quotes, the 30-year-old was quick to respond as he took to Twitter to air his frustrations
Benzema said: 'Mr. Graet, with all due respect, you've lost an opportunity to remain silent
'I've discovered your true face, and this isn't the one that said he appreciated me and wouldn't discuss the subject of team selections
