Pearce found dead in custody

Lance Michael Pearce, 34, was charged with attempted murder this week for allegedly trying to suffocate Blair Dalton, 35.

Ms Dalton's family were forced to turn off her life support on Thursday after she was taken to hospital with critical injuries following the attack in her Ettalong Beach home.

The couple have a young son together, and Mr Pearce is father to another three children with Donna Welsh — also a friend of Ms Dalton.

It's understood Mr Pearce was being held at the maximum security Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre, linked to the Silverwater Correctional Complex in Sydney's west.

On Friday, NSW Police confirmed its Corrective Services unit was investigating the circumstances surrounding of the death of a 34-year-old man. "The death is not believed to be suspicious," a police spokeswoman said.

"A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of his death, with Brisbane Water Local Area Command preparing a report for the coroner.

Lance Michael Pearce, 34, of St Clair in western Sydney, has been found dead after being charged with attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend Blair Dalton.

Police were called to the home of Ms Dalton at 7. 10pm on Tuesday and found her suffering critical injuries.

She was given CPR and taken to Gosford hospital, while Mr Pearce was taken to Gosford police station where he was charged with attempting to strangle her with intent to murder.

He was refused bail and appeared in Gosford Local Court on Wednesday, where he was seen dressed in white and looking distressed.

He could be heard saying "no, no" and "is she all right, she has to be all right?" from the dock, before a magistrate ordered the 34-year-old undergo a psychiatric assessment.

"Our beautiful Blair, who is always helping others, will today continue on this path when the transplanting of her organs begin," her father Robert wrote on social media.

Another emotional tribute was left online by Ms Welsh, who was devastated at the death of beautician Ms Dalton, and the arrest of Mr Pearce.

"Shell shocked, words can't describe the heartache and confusion in processing this horrific and incomprehensible feeling we are all feeling right now," she wrote.

"My three kids and I will always see you as their step-mamma and no one will replace the memories. How do I explain this to the kids?".

Pearce had been due to appear in Gosford Local Court in November and his charges were expected to be upgraded to murder. If you or anyone you know needs help, contact Lifeline, 13 11 14.

Huge cost of WAG's bombshell

Celebrity mum blogger Abby Gilmore has told The Herald Sun of the day her life "crumbled" when she received a shocking text message from a 17-year-old girl claiming to be in a sexual relationship with her ex-fiance.

It was the day her "perfect life" was turned on its head.

Gilmore and Stringer split in August, 2016, but the popular former footy WAG says she is speaking out about her ordeal now to boost her sense of self respect and to be a positive example for other women dealing with similar situations.

She is now trying to create the best life she can for their two children — Arlo, 1, and Milla, 3.

The 24-year-old, who this year signed up as an ambassador for women's mental health charity Liptember, went into painful detail about her separation from Stringer.

She said she was hanging around a gym with one of Stringer's best friends at the Bulldogs, star defender Jason Johannisen, when she received the text that has turned her life on its head.

She said the texts she would later receive from the same girl and from others included naked photos of her former partner along with claims Stringer had been cheating for four months.

"Jake had gone out to get lunch and I was just chilling with JJ when I got this message and just went pale. I showed Jason," Gilmore told The Herald Sun. Jake Stringer and Abby Gilmore together in 2016.

"We both had no idea. She said the texts she received from the 17-year-old girl claimed Stringer and the girl had been in a sexual relationship for four months with the full knowledge of the girl's parents, who were Western Bulldogs supporters.

"When I confronted him, Jake said, 'I'm so sorry I love you'," she said. "I said 'Fine, I have a six-week-old what can I do?'.

"We all constantly scroll through other people's perfect lives on social media. I thought I had that perfect life and so was ashamed when it all came crumbling down.".

Among the many explosive accusations Gilmore makes in the interview is a claim she was exiled by the Western Bulldogs as she went through the messy separation with Stringer leading up to and after their famous 2016 AFL premiership.

She says many players supported her, but she was left to feel like an outcast by the football club until the news of her separation from Stringer finally broke in February this year.

"When it all blew up I was turned away from the club. I couldn't believe it, the senior people just didn't want to hear me out," she said.

"But the Bulldogs players showed they cared. I'm proud of them for that. They were disgusted by his behaviour, doing that to me when I was pregnant. They let him know it.".

Jake Stringer has an uncertain future. Source:AAP. She also reveals Stringer has been battling issues surrounding gambling, claiming the 23-year-old footballer suffers from a gambling addiction.

AFL players are banned from betting on any form of AFL, but Gilmore claims Stringer's gambling losses exceeded $100,000 before their separation. She says her former partner did not get the help he needed at the Western Bulldogs.

"The environment at a football club is concerning. Everything around footy is dictated on betting," she said. "How do you stop something when all you are surrounded by is gambling?.

"It's still such a man's world. I wish he could have walked in and said, 'Guys, I have a massive gambling addiction, can you help me?'. But he would never do that, no way, he would say it was too embarrassing.".

The news comes at a critical moment in Stringer's future with the outcast star reportedly set to inform his suitors on grand final day which club he will seek a trade to during the 2017 AFL trade period.

Stringer is reportedly set to decide on Saturday if he wants to be traded to Geelong or Essendon. Gilmore's revelations may put this trade move in jeopardy.

According to reports, the Bulldogs were seeking a first-round draft pick in exchange for releasing Stringer while still under contract at the club.

Essendon has greater bargaining power to get a trade done with the Bulldogs because the Bombers still have their first round pick for the 2017 AFL Draft, while Geelong doesn't have a pick on draft night until the second round.

However, with Gilmore's revelations on Saturday portraying her former partner as a risky recruitment target, the Bulldogs may have to lower their asking price to get a deal done.

The latest revelations could also potentially weaken the cards Stringer has to play at the negotiating table when it comes to agreeing on his salary with his next football club.

'TRIED TO RUN ME OVER': Pedestrians flee rampaging car

There is a heavy police presence at Melbourne's Flinders St after the incident at 8am that ended when police tasered the knife-wielding driver.

Dramatic footage shows the male — who police believe could be aged in his early teens — in some sort of black body suit and helmet walking onto the road with a baton.

Officers stopped traffic and trams in all directions as they brought the incident under control.

The drama comes on a day when the Victorian capital will be packed with fans attending the AFL grand final at the MCG and amid increasing terrorism fears.

Police insist there is no specific threat — and are doing everything they can to keep people safe — but this morning's drama will bring back the horror of what happened in nearby Bourke St earlier this year.

Six people were killed during a horrific rampage when Dimitrious Gargasoulas, 26, allegedly drove his car through crowds of people. He has been charged with 28 counts of attempted murder over the January 20 incident.

A police statement said emergency services were called to the corner of Swanston and Flinders streets shortly before 8am. "The Critical Incident Response Team attended and the man, who was allegedly armed with a knife, was tasered and arrested.

Witnesses told News Corp a man was pinned to the ground and arrested. One man, who was the scene, said it looked as if the driver was "trying to run people over".

Another man told Melbourne's Herald Sunthe driver came at him with a knife. "He was going mad, he was prepared.".

The witness said: "He was trying to get on the footpath and then started trying to hit people. He tried to run into Fed Square. No one was injured.

Acting Superintendent Wayne Newman said there was no information to suggest the man had terror links — and dispute his "concerning' driving" — there was no information to suggest he was deliberately aiming for pedestrians.

"Certainly his behaviour and driving was erratic but no one was harmed. They were treating the incident as a "mental health" related. The man has been taken to hospital for assessment.

"Victoria Police had its full capability available this morning, police were on scene within minutes and were able to neutralise this threat," Mr Newman told reporters. Officers confronted the driver and tasered him because of his erratic behaviour.

"He wasn't making any threatening remarks that I understand. He said he bystanders had been vigilant and praised them for contacting police, but cautioned against taking matters into their own hands.

The public had a "heightened sense of vigilance" to security issues, he said. However, the police view differed with witnesses who said the vehicle was driven at them on purpose.

"He swerved and tried to run me over," Jolon Cooke told the ABC. "He dead set tried to kill me. Mr Cooke was working for a company setting up equipment for the grand final in Federation Square when the incident occurred.

"He came out of the car with a black baton, full head to toe black military gear took a backpack out of the car to simulate a bomb and then he was telling the cops to come for him.

Meanwhile, anti-terror bollards will line the AFL grand final parade route and other thoroughfares leading to the MCG as Victoria Police ramp up security for footy's big day.

Temporary concrete bollards were set up along the route of the grand final parade yesterday, although police said there is no specific terror threat.

"For those coming to the parade. you will see physical barriers," Assistant Commissioner Stephen Leane said.

"It's both to keep the crowds safe, and the players who are making themselves available for that day, well and truly safe." Thousands of officers will also be deployed during celebrations.

"You'll see police everywhere, from the time you get off a train at Flinders Street, or off a tram, you'll see police everywhere," Police Minister Lisa Neville said. — additional reporting: AAP. andrew. koubaridis@news. com.
