Soldier shot dead at North Korean border amid fears WW3 about to start
The South Korean soldier died of a mysterious gunshot wound to his head in the border county of Cheorwon, in Gangwon Province.
The victim, 22, was returning to his platoon with about 20 soldiers and their commander when he was shot in the head. It is unclear where the bullet came from – and if it was fired from North Korea.

South Korea is on high alert amid fears its trigger-happy neighbour could fire a missile or launch an invasion at any moment. Yesterday, South Korean troops were pictured training for a nuclear attack.
The two countries never signed a peace treaty at the end of the Korean War and are still officially at war.
The US – which has 28,000 troops in South Korea – and Britain have agreed to protect South Korea in the event of war.
China supported its communist ally during the last Korean War – and there are fears any new conflict would spiral into WW3. Experts have warned an accident could trigger war – such as a shooting at the border.

A family member of the victim – who has not been named – reportedly wrote on social media: "This incompetent platoon commander took the soldiers, who are as young as his own children, across the shooting range. A number of South Korean soldiers have reportedly died in incidents there.
South Koreas new president has called for the country to take back wartime control of its military. As it stands, if war with the North breaks out, a US general would command the US and South Korean forces in their defence.
But president Moon Jae-in wants to take back control of South Koreas army – which is one of the largest in the world.
North Korea and the US appear closer to all-out war than they have for decades. US president Donald Trump vowed to totally destroy North Korea if it attacks America or any of its allies, such as South Korea or Japan.
North Koreas foreign minister said the threat was a declaration of war.
South Korea has tested a new system for getting special forces into enemy territory. The infrared countermeasures system disrupts enemy signals and aims to stop guided missiles from blowing up planes flying troops across the border.
Boffins behind the system say it should be deployed as soon as possible to ensure South Korea is ready for war.
The system – which would be installed on C-130H transport planes carrying troops – could alloy the South to carry out a beheading mission to take out Kim Jong-un.

North Korea executed three of its own soldiers caught trying to defect across the border. The troops had dressed as fishermen and were attempting to escape the brutal regime across a river into neighbouring China.
Kim claims to have recruited another 4.7 million North Koreans to the countrys military – already the fourth largest in the world – since the supreme leader threatened to tame Trump with fire.
In March 2013, a South Korean soldier at a border post in Gyeonggi Province was found dead. The victim went to the bathroom but was then found dead of a gunshot wound.
In April 2010, a soldier standing guard at an out was found dead of a gunshot wound to his chest.
