 Fancy giving a yappy Christmas to Aidan – the Staffordshire bull ­terrier longing for a place to call home?  The seven-year-old pooch is facing his second festive season at the Battersea Dogs and Cats home in Old Windsor

 He is the longest-serving resident across all three of Battersea's sites – he's been in their care for well over 400 days

 The average stay for a dog is 38 days, which shows just how long Aidan has been waiting to find a family to love him

 There is no limit on how long an animal can stay at Battersea. For cats, the average stay is 22 days

 Aidan has found it extremely difficult to cope living in kennels for such a long period and is currently spending time in a foster home where he can put his paws up while he waits for a new family to love

 Kaye Mughal, centre manager at Battersea Old Windsor, said: "Christmas is one of Aidan's favourite times of year

 Monster who stabbed his wife 123 times blamed cough medicine  "He loves nothing more than being wrapped up in a big fluffy blanket, watching Christmas films and being surrounded by his favourite toys

 "It's heartbreaking for us that he won't be spending this Christmas with a new family unless someone makes that call

Aidan is a sensitive soul and can get quite nervous in new situations, which has put people off rehoming him in the past

However, since being in Battersea's care, he's become much more confident.  "Aidan needs a home with an owner who is willing to continue his training and work with him to bring out the best dog that he can be

We really hope he will find someone who has opened their hearts and home to this lovely boy, in the true spirit of Christmas

"  Aidan needs a particular type of setting to fulfil his potential. He is fully house trained and provided he has been walked, can be left alone for an hour or two

 He likes the sound of his own bark and needs an owner who would not be put off by this – and he can't live with cats or other dogs

 Families with young kids probably wouldn't be best suited.  Ideally he would be better off away from the inner city and would be fine in a family with teenagers
