Today I will show you a new chapter of the metal detecting series
As you see I am by the river, there are news!
I have a new metal detector with me
It is very special
The good is that is waterproof
The bad is that it only detects Iron
It is very light
And quite cheap compared with other metal detectors
It is a low technology metal detector, and no needs batteries at all!
Here it is!
It perfectly fits in a backpack
It is a magnet
I am doing today the so called "Magnet Fishing"
Look for iron objects with a magnet in water
I've already done the before
You only need a magnet that you can by online
There are different sizes
I prepared it with this pice to attach the rope
A rope, maybe thicker that this but not much
¡cause it wets and becomes really heavy
An patience. You can really have a quite and nice time with this activity
Tis is a Neodymium Magnet, very powerful
Not very expensive
Neodymium is a rare earth, here is covered...
with a steel case
Please, be very careful when using one of these! Always wear gloves!
You could break a finger
There are many sizes available.
If it is very strong think that you may need more strength to manipulate it
Only when the object is fully drawed by the magnet you would need the mentioned strength to liberate it
Let's start!
The technique is easy and the skills grow with practice
I recommend you to tie the rope with a big rock or a tree to avoid loosing it
Cross your fingers!

It is a pebble!
It has iron in its composition
Their river might be crossing lands with this iron rocks that lay here
The main problem when "Magnet Fishing" its when the rope gets stucked
It is really common
Mainly in rivers that carry many vegetation and tree branches
I have almost lost this magnet more than once because of this
The magnet can be modified to try to avoid this
Flatteningthis corners to make them less exposed to branches and rocks
I should do it on my own because it is a nightmare when it happens
This mainly happens in deep areas of the river
where more of the objects usually are
It looks like slag
I'm going to change the spot
Nt much in those shallow waters
Quite and deep waters here
The river has few water, we are in summer
And we have had no rains for weeks
The best time of the year to "Magnet Fishing"
I crossed the river
there is small dam here and a deep area to search
See the rope? People jump from there
They could lose something or maybe the current brings also iron objects till this hole
Let's try
I got stuck! and it looks serious
Will try to free it pulling from the other side
Finally I had to swim and dive!
It was stuck two meters deep in a big brach or trunk
I tried not to but had to do to recover it
It is summertime, no worries
Now the river is crowded
Kids having fun here
Will try in another and more quiet spot
I surrender! I can see the many branches and rocks here and ...
I guess I would got stuck again
You get the idea of the "Magnet Fishing" with this video
You can really enjoy with this activity
If with kids, can be fun but be careful as magnets are not toys
An maybe, only maybe, you could find a nice iron relic!
Over the paper today's finds, some iron stones and
the trash, with iron pieces and old hook parts
This is a smaller magnet
We can check that all the stones have iron
These are other object found in the same spot in the past
Not incredible artifacts but nice ones
A key, and old nail and unidentified object
and this one includes a with cooper alloy section
But the most of the finds are iron stones
Maybe from a foundry or natural iron stones?
