THE LORD OF THE SKIES

What if we completely destroy Aurelio?

Isn't that what you want?

I should've swallowed my own pride!

This would've been over already.

Right?

Yeah.

But that's just who you are.

You're going to do me a favor, my dear Jose Antonio,

unless you want us to visit your family in Ixtapalapa.

Take me to the place you took the two tourists you picked up

at the hotel in the historic center.

A few days ago,

I was dismissed from my position

by President Omar Teran Robles.

Executing arm, accomplice, and accessory

to the drug trade in this country.

Rivero's made it his mission to mess with me!

I thought you'd dealt with this, Aurelio!

Remember to issue a statement regarding that idiot's murder.

We're going to pin it on that ------.

Don't forget his name. It's Tony Pastrana.

THE LORD OF THE SKIES

Make sure she's there.

Ninon, it's Tony Pastrana. We're here.

Good.

We're set for dinner. See you in an hour?

Is your business partner coming with you?

Yes.

Can you tell me who she is?

That's not important for now.

You'll soon meet my Mexican muse.

Get everything ready, Ahmed.

Soon we'll find out who she is.

Yes, madame.

Don't worry.

The other guy's here on Ismael's orders.

How's Isidro?

Keep giving him the cough syrup.

I'll call later to check up on him.

Bye.

What'd you find out, Pompeyo?

I don't think you're going to like this.

The person inside is the former Secretary of National Security,

Rodrigo Rivero Lanz.

They're going after him.

You're doing this

because you still love me, right?

That's why you're coming after me?

No, you're wrong, Rutila.

Fortunately, I'm well over you

and what I'm feeling isn't love.

Paloma. Paloma!

What's wrong?

Paloma. Paloma!

What's wrong? Paloma!

Please wake up. What the hell happened?

Paloma. Paloma!

Please wake up!

Mayra, I need to hold a press conference.

Call the press.

Where's Castillo?

I've sent for him. He should be here soon.

Sir, I must tell the press the purpose of the conference.

No, not yet. I can't say anything.

Not until I get confirmation of the seriousness of this issue.

Yes, sir. Excuse me.

It can't be.

Wait. It's dangerous.

They don't know what they're getting themselves into.

-I have to stop them. -Please understand.

Your father gave the order.

I don't follow his orders. Where are they?

Miss, please understand. It's dangerous.

Let them handle it. Damn it!

Mr. President.

You called for me?

What do you know about a man called Tony Pastrana?

Pastrana?

All I know is that he's a Spanish entrepreneur

who became a US citizen years ago.

He's also involved in drug trafficking.

I need a detailed report about that man.

I want it on my desk ASAP. Get in touch with the DEA.

-Yes, sir. -Mayra!

Salazar.

Bernardo, what can I help you with?

The president just came to me with a surprising request.

He wants a detailed report on Tony Pastrana.

Could you send his dossier to my office in Los Pinos?

Or you can email it. Whatever works.

No problem,

but as soon as you know what this is about, call me.

I will.

It's me.

Castillo.

I'm calling because I'm a bit worried.

The president is going to hold a press conference

and he just asked for a report on Tony Pastrana.

What?

I need that report as soon as possible, Salazar.

It's urgent!

I know you can't talk,

but find out everything you can and give me a call.

We'll be waiting.

Thanks.

What's wrong?

I don't know exactly.

What's up with the dogs?

Does anyone else know we're here?

Come with me. Come on.

He's in my line of sight, Dad.

Who else is there with him?

Some blue-eyed chick. I think it's Garcia.

I owe her thanks. She brought me to you.

They're armed and they're on the lookout.

They must've heard the dogs barking.

Tell the Engineer to kill them both.

And don't hang up. I need confirmation.

Got it.

We kill them both.

Take care of her.

Hand me that gun.

Ismael!

Rutila, what the hell are you doing here?

You can't do this. You can't.

What the hell is going on, Ismael?

Paloma, please wake up. Wake up.

That's it. Come on.

What the hell? You scared me!

I don't feel good. Help me.

Come here.

I'm so nauseous.

I'd better not be pregnant!

Oh, please, Paloma.

I had a vasectomy a long time ago.

Besides, if you were,

it wouldn't be entirely my fault.

I feel really bad.

You're going to keep ------- her until you kill her.

I helped you when you killed that Polish hooker.

Now you're going to help me get rid of Paloma.

You can't do this, Ismael.

Get out of the way, Rutila!

What the hell is going on, Ismael?

Rutila's trying to stop me.

What do I do?

What's Rutila doing there?

You said to keep an eye on her!

What was I supposed to do?

Tell Dad I won't let him kill Rivero.

He was my boyfriend.

You don't want me to kill him,

but he's been making your life impossible.

Rutila, we have to do this.

You have to stop, Ismael.

If you don't stop this, I'll scream.

Don't you dare! There's no time!

Tie her up. Gag her!

Do whatever you have to do! Just get it done!

I'm sorry, sis. [Gritos ahogados]

Now!

Come on, -------.

Ismael!

We need to get out of here and head for the mountains.

If we stay, they'll kill us.

I don't see anything.

Do you have bullets?

Yes, but I'll get more.

I have a bad feeling about this.

Uzcategui, I can't talk. They're here.

Who? Where are you?

Should I call the cops? That might make it worse.

What do I do, Rodrigo?

I don't know, but I have to go. I'll call you later.

I hope it's a false alarm.

What'd she say?

Nothing that could help.

It's time to go.

Everything's ready for the press conference.

Has the reporter Carla Uzcategui arrived?

No, sir. They sent the usual guy.

Just say the word, sir.

I most definitely will, Mayra.

Please make sure Castillo knows how important it is

for me to have that report on Tony Pastrana.

Yes, sir.

You can go now.

Excuse me.

Here.

Put this on. We need to be safe.

Damn it.

This'll hurt more than what we came here to do.

Kill the dogs.

Mochilas! Take care of the dogs!

-Ready? -Yeah.

Let me go.

Let go...

Calm down.

Easy!

I've got nothing against you and I'm sorry for doing this,

but I honestly can't let you go.

Let her go.

Don't...

Stay out of this.

She was going to warn them and I had to stop her.

You know I'm right. This wasn't my call.

Aurelio himself gave the order.

When do we leave?

The dogs stopped barking.

Which is strange.

Maybe it was an animal or something.

I don't think so.

Roto, take your guys. Move it!

You heard him, -------! Let's go!

Get down, babe! I saw two men.

Go to the other window and keep your eyes peeled.

----!

Damn it!

Roto, you alright?

I'm fine. It's nothing.

The bullet went through and through.

Let's do this!

-Come on! -Oh, yeah!

Son of a bitch!

They've probably got us surrounded.

Take cover!

I am taking cover. You do the same!

Rodrigo! Were you hit?

No, no! Get back!

Go back, Evelyn!

Castillo!

We're surrounded! They're shooting at us!

Any idea who they are?

Send someone! We won't last for long!

But you and Garcia will end up in prison.

---- it, Castillo! At least we'd be alive!

Send the troops or we'll both die!

Do you understand?

Alright. I'll help you.

Hold on, okay? Hold on.

Send a commando to Desierto de los Leones.

Yes, sir.

A report on Tony Pastrana?

Do we know why the illustrious President of Mexico himself

asked for this report?

I think Teran's trying to distract the press

to get them to stop talking about his government.

Pastrana's a big deal. He's been in prison.

He's no Boy Scout.

Still, his sudden interest in him in particular

and this urgent request are alarming.

That might be the case.

I mean, we know the president's knee-deep in this mess,

but we can't discredit him.

MARSEILLES, FRANCE

Ninon seems to be up to something big.

If things go as I expect them to,

That's just what I need, Tony.

I need my strength back

My son's the only thing that's holding me back.

You found success through corridos.

Recording an album full of ballads sounds way too risky!

"Angel Baby" wouldn't sound right in a corrido album.

It belongs in an album of love songs.

What about your fans?

The majority are Mexican.

Have you thought about them?

They might feel betrayed if you cross over.

That's not going to happen.

Besides, you taught me that music is universal.

Jenni Rivera, you're the only one of my children

who never listens to me.

That's because my brothers are a bunch of fools

and I'm a force to reckon with.

Dad.

You know I've got to feel what I'm singing.

My music should stay true to who I am.

Alright, sweetie. Fine.

You win, as always.

That's why I love you, Dad!

What else did you want to talk about?

Sit down.

We're going to Miami in a few days.

Don Francisco's show is celebrating its 15th year,

and we've been invited as guest stars.

Really?

Don't talk to me in English!

I'm sorry! I got excited!

Wow! Don Francisco!

You look like a total heartthrob!

Hell yeah, sis. I clean up well.

Your fans are going to crazy over you.

I can't wait to see you on TV!

I can't wait till you start singing.

That's all we need.

Then we'd all be performers.

I'm not into that.

I'd rather see you guys from the audience.

Don't lie.

You'd look great onstage.

What's going on with you?

In fact, you look prettier than ever.

Did you do something to your hair?

What'd you do?

I have a new boyfriend. His name's Ricky.

I just met him, but he's a real nice guy.

Oh, yeah? That's nice.

Does he treat you right?

Have you introduced him to the family?

He's really nice and sweet.

He takes care of me.

I want to meet him.

But, Lupe...

No, sis.

We've experienced tragedy in this family before.

I don't want another ill-intentioned bastard

ruining our lives.

What if he's anything like Trino?

I don't want to talk about him.

Look, sis.

I'm sorry, okay?

I didn't mean to bring back bad memories.

And don't worry, Trino can't hide forever.

He's bound to poke his head out eventually.

I'm going to beat his ass once he does.

You'll see.

You know what, brother?

When a woman is raped... a piece of her soul dies.

I still want to keep what's left of me alive.

You know you can count on me, sis.

I'm here for you.

Come here.

Thanks for doing my makeup, Jaime.

I looked like a mess after crying so much.

I'm so stressed out!

You look great, honey!

You're ready for tonight's show, looking like a queen.

Just look at that face.

Makeup looks great on you.

You have amazing skin.

Now if only that makeup could cover up

the scars I have on the inside.

They say we're all kind of broken on the inside.

Oh, I'm beyond broken.

Life's dealt me some serious blows.

Why do I always ramble before performing?

I'm nervous. I'm sorry.

It's cool. You can be real with me.

Well, let's get real!

I heard your brother's a famous designer.

Yeah, he's a professional dressmaker.

I'm not just saying it 'cause he's my brother,

but he's amazing.

I know Adan's amazing.

He caters to the rich and famous.

Sure does.

You think you could ask him to make me a dress?

He's usually busy... but it can't hurt to ask.

Besides, baby. You're a star too!

Ready?

You look gorgeous!

What a beauty.

Thank you, thank you.

The band's waiting for you, Jenni...

and remember, this is the first of many concerts,

so save your energy.

Oh, sweetie.

Don't worry.

I know I'm feeling a bit down lately,

but if I fall like a dumbass, I get back up like a badass.

My fans come first!

Let's do this.

¶ I'm going to give it to someone else... ¶

¶ because you don't deserve me. ¶

2002

Look!

The mailbox was packed.

It couldn't fit another letter.

Can we read them together?

Of course, Max!

Don't call me that anymore.

From now on, I want to be Michael.

Michael?

You're changing your name again?

So what?

I can be whoever I want!

Right?

Of course, sweetie!

Yes, Michael! Now, come here.

Let's open these letters.

Look at this, Mom. It's beautiful.

Sweetie, can you get the phone?

It's on the table.

Hello?

Mom, it's for you. It's Fonovisa.

The label!

Hello? This is Jenni.

What happened? Are you sure?

Okay. Thanks.

What happened, Mom?

What'd they say?

Is there a problem with the label?

No... I've been nominated for a Latin Grammy!

Grammy, baby!

Are you serious?

For real?

Yes, baby!

Don Francisco's been so kind to Janney.

Ever since he invited her onto his show,

the Queen of Long Beach has more fans than ever!

And not just Mexican fans.

Tons of other Hispanics love her, too!

We had such a great time on his show.

He treated us like kings.

Grandma! Mom's coming up next!

Coming!

Here, Pedro.

Thanks.

Need help?

Scoot over, Mike.

Pass it around, honey.

Here you go.

Jenni Rivera, it's an honor to have you on the show again.

The honor's all mine, Don Francisco.

Thank you very much.

You're back by popular demand!

I'm starting to worry! I might end up without a job!

Of course not!

Just kidding.

You're here because the audience loves you!

Last September,

during our 15-year anniversary special show,

we had the whole Rivera clan over

and you surprised us with a very special performance.

That was a very special moment for me.

Thank you so much for that opportunity.

On behalf of my family, thank you for that opportunity.

Let's relive that moment.

Thank you.

You guys won't stop munching.

Oh, please.

You took some time off from music.

Yes, I retired for a few years

due to a very difficult personal situation.

During that time, my children, who are all music lovers,

were watching the Grammys one night and they said,

"Mom, why don't you get back into music again?

You might just win yourself a Grammy."

When my label called

and told me I was nominated for a Grammy, I was over the moon.

That was something my children inspired me to achieve.

I know you retired because you suffered an incident

after a performance.

Yes.

You were raped.

That's right.

It happened on January 26th, 1997, right after a performance.

I'd just dropped off my sister and her friend at home,

and I didn't realize I was being followed.

When I got home, I was raped.

That's when I thought that I was risking too much

over an uncertain career.

I quit singing after that.

And how'd you overcome that trauma and move on?

I'm a big believer in God... and I know He's with me.

If I had to go through that again, I would...

because those experiences shaped me

into the woman I am today.

I loved Don Francisco, but I loved him even more now.

I told him things about my life I'd never told anyone before.

In the years that followed,

I became a regular guest on Don Francisco Presenta.

He gave me the chance to sing,

and that always meant a lot to me.

De La Salle College and Maths Pathway: Targeting students at their point of need - Duration: 2:56.

The most exciting thing about being a teacher for me is,

when the student gets that 'lightbulb' moment.

To see their face and see them get something they've struggled with, is fantastic.

De La Salle is a school that really prides itself on its La Sallian Charism and teaching

the whole person and developing really great boys into young men

that are going to contribute to society.

It was founded by St John Baptiste De La Salle, who's the patron saint of teachers.

There's a bunch of De La Salles all over the world, except this one would be the best.

We do find we get a wide-range of student abilities coming in at Year 7.

We start the year with a wide-spread.

And because of the different engagement levels, we'd also end the year with a wide-spread.

What you were teaching wasn't actually targeting students at their point of need.

So, you were missing the top-end students and often,

going too fast for the lower-end students.

In Primary School I didn't really enjoy maths that much.

Sometimes it was too hard, sometimes it was too easy - it was never the right level.

If you missed the first part of it, then you never got on to the hard stuff.

We've had a big focus in the past couple of years on

every student making one years worth of growth in one year.

It hasn't been until Maths Pathway that individualised learning has really taken-off in our school.

And through Maths Pathway we're seeing that students are making amazing progress.

They see their growth.

They're seeing their percentage.

And their focussing on that, rather than just an old test-score.

Mine at the moment is 267%, but my highest is 400%.

My maths teacher told me if I can keep up this rate, I can learn two and half years

of maths in the one year.

We're seeing a real attitude change in our students.

From not liking maths, to wanting to see growth.

Wanting to see how well they can do.

Wanting to push themselves to do even better each time.

I actually like maths now, I look forward to doing maths classes.

It's pretty exciting knowing that I'm getting better and better

so that I can do more much harder things.

It's just a really great way to learn maths because it's for you.

They're seeing that when they're working on work that's at their level, and they're putting

in that effort, that they can really achieve success with it.

I like to think about maths teaching this way: there was the old way - the old chalk

and talk method.

Maths Pathway drags that into the twenty-first century.

It allows students to do things at their own pace.

It allows teachers to help students at an individual level.

And it helps parents feel that their children are growing and changing

and getting the best maths education they can get.

CC: TELEMUNDO NETWORK

Look!

The mailbox was packed.

It couldn't fit another letter.

Can we read them together?

Of course, Max!

Don't call me that anymore.

From now on, I want to be Michael.

Michael?

You're changing your name again?

So what?

I can be whoever I want!

Right?

Of course, sweetie!

Yes, Michael! Now, come here.

Let's open these letters.

Look at this, Mom. It's beautiful.

Sweetie, can you get the phone?

It's on the table.

Hello?

Mom, it's for you. It's Fonovisa.

The label!

Hello? This is Jenni.

What happened? Are you sure?

Okay. Thanks.

What happened, Mom?

What'd they say?

Is there a problem with the label?

No... I've been nominated for a Latin Grammy!

Grammy, baby!

Are you serious?

For real?

Yes, baby!

Don Francisco's been so kind to Janney.

Ever since he invited her onto his show,

the Queen of Long Beach has more fans than ever!

And not just Mexican fans.

Tons of other Hispanics love her, too!

We had such a great time on his show.

He treated us like kings.

Grandma! Mom's coming up next!

Coming!

Here, Pedro.

Thanks.

Need help?

Scoot over, Mike.

Pass it around, honey.

Here you go.

Jenni Rivera, it's an honor to have you on the show again.

The honor's all mine, Don Francisco.

Thank you very much.

You're back by popular demand!

I'm starting to worry! I might end up without a job!

Of course not!

Just kidding.

You're here because the audience loves you!

Last September,

during our 15-year anniversary special show,

we had the whole Rivera clan over

and you surprised us with a very special performance.

That was a very special moment for me.

Thank you so much for that opportunity.

On behalf of my family, thank you for that opportunity.

Let's relive that moment.

¶ It's such a beautiful morning to say hello. ¶
