Chelsea news: Aston Villa PULL OUT of Gary Cahill swoop, Arsenal favourites to seal deal - Duration: 2:33.

 The Championship side have pulled out of any deal for the centre-back as it has been deemed to be too expensive

 Arsenal are now the favourites with the bookies to swoop for Cahill as they look to bolster their backline

 The Telegraph claim Villa had held talks with the 33-year-old but cannot meet the demands Chelsea have put on the table

 **PREDICT FIVE RESULTS AND WIN £25,000 - FREE TO PLAY HERE** The Blues want Cahill's £110,000-a-week wages paid in full if he is to leave Stamford Bridge on loan

 And the former England international is said to want a similar sum if he was to make a permanent move to Villa Park

 Cahill was high on Dean Smith's shortlist going into January but Villa will now explore other options as they make signing a defender a priority

 After discovering any deal for the centre-back would cost £4million, the Championship club have pulled the plug

 Cahill is also said to prefer a switch which would keep him in the Premier League at this stage in his career

 Arsenal boss Unai Emery could make a surprise raid for him instead. The bookies believe the Gunners could bring Cahill to the Emirates in January

 Ladbrokes have Cahill at 7/4 to make the switch across London. Arsenal could get a deal done on New Years Day if all parties can reach a swift agreement

 The Gunners have also been linked with Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega this winter with his agent reportedly in London for talks

 Arsenal are currently weak in central defence with Laurent Koscielny only just back from injury and Rob Holding ruled out long-term
