The Spaniard is one of a number of players out of contract at the end of the season and is free to speak to foreign clubs in the new year

But United don't have an option to extend Mata's contract by another 12 months, having done that last year

Mata, 30, made his name during his four-year spell at the Mestalla before leaving for Chelsea in 2011

But France Football reports Mata is eager to return to Spain and head back to the club if he is to leave United

United were linked with the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina, but with none of those materialising, the Portuguese boss has been made to make do with what he's got

Mourinho appears to have finally settled on a centre-back partnership, with Chris Smalling and £31million Victor Lindelof starting the last four games in all competitions at the heart of the defence, and £30million Eric Bailly warming the bench

The United backline has certainly benefited from a degree of stability in recent weeks, but according to Italian newspaper La Republicca, per Calcio Mercato, that hasn't stopped Mourinho's search for reinforcements

The publication reports that United have set their sights on 22-year-old Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen, with four United scouts attending the club's 4-1 home defeat by Torino last weekend

An independent commission found an FA charge of misconduct against the Manchester United boss Mourinho not proven in a landmark ruling

Mourinho was charged after he swore in his native Portuguese into a TV camera after United's dramatic 3-2 win over Newcastle on October 6

The United boss said "fodas filhos de puta", roughly translated as 'f*** off sons of b*****s" as he walked down the Old Trafford touchline following the win

After successfully contesting the charge, Mourinho said he did so because he was "100 per cent not guilty" - but he could still end up being punished following the FA appeal

The FA brought in lip readers and linguistics experts to build a case against Mourinho, who in turn enlisted his own language experts to fight the charge

Mourinho's linguistics expert argued the words used by the United boss were not directed at anyone in particular and were a "personal, inwardly-directed expression of relief, happiness and determination" at the result

The United boss also claimed the words he used were inaudible and could only be understood by people with lip-reading skills and a deep expertise in Portuguese colloquialisms

15:31United must learn lessons from Juve defeat ahead of rematch, says Rashford Marcus Rashford says Manchester United's players must show they have learned "lessons" from their defeat to Juventus when they face the Italian champions again tonight

United went down 1-0 to the Serie A leaders at Old Trafford a fortnight ago, a game in which Jose Mourinho admitted the gulf in class between the two sides was huge

The Reds have the chance to avenge that defeat tonight when the two sides meet again in Turin, with striker Rashford admitting United must show what they have learned from that chastening defeat

"The home game was a game with a lot of lessons," said Rashford. "It was a game where we could have lost 2-0, drew the game 1-1 or won the game 2-1

"I think in that game we left it a bit too late, but we learnt from it and we go again

"There have been times when we've got it right and there will be times when we get it right again and times when we don't, but we have to understand that it doesn't always go to plan, and we have to be ready for that

"I think it's good to have the two games quite close together, because the first game is quite fresh in a lot of people's minds

I wouldn't say it's easier to prepare for it, but you feel ready to face it." Read more here

Defence Team News: 7 November 2018 - Duration: 1:52.

Welcome back to Defence Team News. I'm Dr. Sarah Lockyer,

the Casualty Identification Coordinator for the Department

of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces.

And I'm Ordinary Seaman Courtney Laidler.

Here are the headlines at Defence

in recognition of this year's Veterans' Week.

As the forensic anthropologist

for the Casualty Identification Program

at the Directorate of History and Heritage,

I complete the anthropological analysis

of newly found remains of Canadian soldiers

who went missing during the First and Second World Wars.

When the program's investigation

is successful, identified human remains

are buried with a name, by their unit

and in the presence of their family.

The program promotes a strong sense of continuity

and identity within the CAF.

The attempt to give a name

to each discovered Canadian military fatality

aligns with Military Personnel Command's mission

to honour and recognize military personnel for service to Canada.

Check out the related links for more information

about the program, and how you can help us

identify Canadian war dead with no known grave.

This week marks Veterans' Week, an opportunity to join together,

to remember and honour our veterans,

those who have made the ultimate sacrifice

defending Canada's interests at home and abroad.

As part of Veterans' Week, CAF members are giving presentations

at schools and other civic organizations across Canada.

These sessions help Canadians learn more about the roles

and stories of serving CAF members.

Defence Team members are encouraged to take part

in the commemorative ceremonies

and events happening across the country.

That's it for us.

Thank you so much for watching. See you next time...
