Cooperfloresta, which is a community forest producers co-operative,
was born from the organization of traditional communities in the Amazon forest
in the state of Acre in order to work with timber management.
What is community forest management?
It is a practice used in the Amazon, especially in the state of Acre,
where low impact techniques are adopted,
so that the forest does not suffer consequences with the removal of wood.
Therefore, the mission of Cooperfloresta,
is to provide improvement to the lives of its members, associations,
and also other forest communities with whom the Cooperflorestas work in partnership with,
through the strengthening of the timber production chain...
Timber that is managed with quality by the forest producers themselves.
When we discovered Wood-Mizer,
we brought this information to the community members, who liked the suggestion.
We showed videos on the Internet
and photos highlighting the sawmill yield and potential,
which left the community excited to work with this type of technology.
We started with a presentation by Cooperfloresta, and followed it
with a presentation from Wood-Mizer, the partner company in this activity.
We trained the cooperative members in an orientation about the blades...
specifically in regards to sharpening, setting, care, what should be the correct setting.
And then we started training them on the LT15.
Within this project, we acquired for sawmills from Wood-Mizer.
Three small-scale sawmills, called the LT15. And, a medium-sized sawmill, called the LT70.
What I could observe from the people was that they were very excited to operate the machine.
They were anxious to get near the machine.
There was a community member who couldn't sleep, knowing the machines were coming.
So, it was a general joy for the co-operative and for the associations.
They found it very easy to operate the machines. They had great ease with it.
I really like to train people...
talk to them, listen to what they have to say, and interact with them.
From this perspective, we are very pleased with the acquisition of the Wood-Mizer sawmills...
and we also intend to take this type of technology
to other Cooperfloresta areas of activity,
so that we can add more value to the wood, and increase the quality of life
and economic income for the traditional communities.
This sawmill project is a really good project.
It is good for the future. The forest management plan is for the future.
It is for the children and grandchildren.
And we think it can grow even more in the near future. Today we are seeing reality.
What satisfies me most today is knowing that my work helps people stay in the forest,
so that they can live in a fair way,
with a satisfactory economic situation, and respect for the environment.
