HILLARY: Ariana Grande has finally dropped her video for "thank u, next" after a slew
of sneak peeks and a whole trailer.
HILLARY: Pulling from early 2000s cinematic classics like "Mean Girls," "Bring It On,"
"13 Going on 30" and "Legally Blonde," the clip, directed by Hannah Lux,
has plenty of nostalgia for an anthem about growth, self acceptance—and Ari's most
public romances.
Let's get to the movie references, shall we?
First up Ari takes a page from 2004's "Mean Girls," starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams
as dueling popular girls.
PRINCIPAL: The two were seen canoodling at Chris Isel's Halloween party and they've been inseparable every since.
HILLARY: There's even a Kris Jenner cameo, sort of roasting herself as a "cool mom,"
originally played by Amy Poehler.
Then Ari pays homage to the earliest of these classics, 2000's "Bring It On," starring
Gabrielle Union and Kirsten Dunst as rival cheerleaders.
CHEERLEADERS: Get on back, you can't touch this!
Our game is bad, we're without peer so get that weak mess out of here!
OG CHEERLEADERS: Tried to sell our bit, but you look like shit, but we're the ones who are down with it.
HILLARY: Next up is a nod to 2004's "13 Going on 30," starring Jennifer Garner as
a teen stuck in a 30 year-old's body.
JENNA: Matty Can I have it?
Please?
MATTY: You're not gonna whip it at me?
No.
HILLARY: And finally, Ari replicates Reese Witherspoon's ultra-pink party from 2001's
"Legally Blonde."
ELLE: Oh Bruiser, it's so exciting!
Look, Harvard!
Are you excited?
HILLARY: Even down to the "bend and snap" instructional.
ELLE: I think I dropped something on the floor that I need to pick up!
So you bend, and snap! See?
HILLARY: Fans have been waiting for this video with baited breath since the single's release in Novemeber
and, you know what?
It was worth the wait.
