Real Madrid president Perez is on the hunt for a new manager having chosen to part ways with Julen Lopetegui

Lopetegui was only named as Zinedine Zidane's successor back in the summer but was sacked on Monday after overseeing a torrid start to the new La Liga season

Real Madrid president Perez reportedly wants Jose Mourinho to return to the club, despite the 55-year-old insisting he was happy at Manchester United

Mourinho recently said: "No, I want to stay here until the final day of my contract, and I'd like to remain after my contract with Manchester United

" Yet Spanish outlet Ok Diario say Perez would love to bring him back to the Bernabeu

And they point out that two rivals of the 55-year-old in the past, Ronaldo and Guardiola, are key to Perez's plan working out

United have crunch fixtures against both Juventus and Manchester City coming up. Ronaldo drew a blank when Juve won 1-0 last week but will no doubt be hungry for goals when the two teams meet next month

Guardiola, meanwhile, will be out for revenge. Last season, City were given the chance to win the Premier League title by beating United at the Etihad

Goals from Vincent Kompany and Leroy Sane appeared to have sent them on their way

But Paul Pogba scored twice before Chris Smalling's thunderbolt header to give United all three points

Ok Diario say Mourinho's job remains in doubt. And, should he lose to both City and Juventus, a parting of the ways could happen

Real would then hope to bring in Mourinho, especially as they would not have to pay the Red Devils any compensation package

Meanwhile, former Los Blancos president Ramon Calderon has opened up on Mourinho possibly returning

He said: "Mourinho is the only coach Perez has respected up to now. He gave him all the power for the first time in his life, which was very unusual

"It's true that he's been in touch with Jose in the last few years trying to bring him here again, but being with Man United I think now it's not possible

"If he leaves Manchester United I'm sure he'll be here again." The run of results that saw Real Madrid axe Julen Lopetegui Barcelona (lost 5-1) Viktoria Plzen (won 2-1) Levante (lost 2-1) Alaves (lost 1-0) CSKA Moscow (lost 1-0) Atletico Madrid (drew 0-0) Sevilla (lost 3-0)
