And that's it.
Hi people! I hope your autumn is going smoothly. It's quite cold in here.
Well, I'm preparing stuff for the incoming SteamCon
of Armilla, which will be on November the 17th at the Casa de García Viedma,
from 11h to 20h. They'll soon let me know
at which time I can present my book, and then I'll be there selling prints and novels.
What else...? Right now I'm making a lot of book covers. You'll see them in
the future, when the writers are ready to share them. On another note, today I wanted
to show you four new books that have fallen in my hands. My taste
in books seems to flow depending on seasons. Some months I only feel like
reading horror, and others I just want to read Romantica.
This season it looks like I'm craving for Young Adult Fantasy again,
so I'll show you these four books I got.
Some were given to me, others I bought, but I'm dying
to read them all. For a start, here we have ONE DARK THRONE by Kendare Blake.
ONE DARK THRONE is the sequel to THREE DARK CROWNS, which I
dedicated a video a while ago... plus an "interesting" dance.
It's ok, the story goes straight to the point. I miss a bit more
worldbuilding, some more explanations and descriptions, you see,
because it rarely stops to let us see the world and other characters, and sometimes you feel
like you're watching the summarized edition of a movie where every non-crucial
scene was cut off. Still, it's a pretty good sequel
and it doesn't suffer from the "second book in a trilogy" syndrome,
where the first one is great, the third one rocks too... but the second book
is merely a bridge and nothing really important happens in it. No, in ONE DARK THRONE
we get tons of action and I'm having a very good time reading it.
I ordered this one at the bookshop because it caught my attention: THE YOUNG ELITES
by Marie Lu. In this book, a horrible plague has ravaged
a world kinda based on Renaissance Italy/Venetia.
However, a bunch of young people survived the plague, but
they developed a variety of extraordinary abilities and mutations. These people
are now known as "The Young Elites",
and are like the X-Men of Fantasy Venetia. I'll tell you more
when I read it. This trilogy is completed, it seems like
this one's three books as well. Then this one is by my writer colleague Jesús Cilleros...
Well, CJ Cilleros. He's also known as Chechu,
Chechu Cilleros. This is the first book of his completed trilogy,
titled LA LÁGRIMA DEL GUARDIÁN. The trilogy is named CREADORES DE MAGIA
and it's published by KHABOX. With this house
I'll publish my next novel about mermaids and pirates.
We'll get to it by January.
So well, what is "Creadores de Magia: La Lágrima del Guardián" about?
It's about teenagers with magical powers, and there are also mythological creatures
and transformations, much like Sailor Moon. And I can't say much more
because I haven't been able to start reading it with all the work and whatnot.
But people like this book and it has great reviews on the internet, so
it's in my "to-read-NOW" list.
And the last one... I'm very excited to share it with you.
This book was published by ALETHÉ and I made the cover:
THE GOBLIN EMPEROR by Katherine Addison. Look how pretty it came out!
I also made the spine and back-cover. Look, there's a small illustration
inside, too.
Here's only text. So, THE GOBLIN EMPEROR is about a Steampunk
society with elves and goblins, and our protagonist, this guy here,
is Maia.
He's a hybrid born to the late Goblin Emperor and his elf concubine. Maia lived
his whole childhood jumping around a swamp, isolated from
aristocracy and political bullshittery, but one day his father the Emperor
dies in a zeppelin accident (along with his older three brothers).
Unlucky him, he must now become
the Goblin Emperor and finds himself thrown into a web of intrigue and backstabbing.
Yeah, look at the SUBTLE symbolism here.
And he's trying to stay alive, see what he can do for his people,
and deal with his life being turned upside down. This novel
received awards, look: "Winner of the LOCUS award." Right here on the cover,
like "Go buy this book, it's good." TGE is quite known,
they say it's an amazing novel, and look, it's a long, enjoyable read!
I'm dying to read it myself. It's basically a steampunk novel
with elves, goblins, and political schemings.
Just that. I wanted to show you my work on the cover because I'm so happy
and proud of it. THE GOBLIN EMPEROR was published in Spain
by ALETHÉ, the same house that published the complete volume of CRÓNICAS DEL FIN
whose cover I made as well. You can find it on bookshops,
you can order it wherever you want. This one is not
like my self-published novels that must be bought on Amazon or right from me.
This one you will find on bookstores. And well, these were my four new books.
I hope you liked any of them. When I finish them, perhaps
I'll make a video to recommend them as usual.
I might make fanart and stuff... Well, I haven't got much more to say.
Come to the Armilla EuroSteamCon if you're not too far away!
I'll be there, thrilled to meet you.
Today's video was short.
Sometimes they come out 30mins long, sometimes less than 10mins. I hope
you enjoyed it, I hope some of these books caught your attention, and see you next time!
Thank you SO much for watching me once more. Bye-bye! :D
